It's best to compose the letter, read it repeatedly until you no longer feel anger, then burn the letter! That way, it's strictly personal and there's no reaction from the other person.

I agree about forgiving parents-- it's an important step to take for oneself. HOWEVER, if a parent is still continuing the destructive behavior, simply forgiving him or her will not bring peace. For example, where one's parent has a personality disorder. Sometimes forgiveness must be accompanied by measures of self-protection, such as low or no contact. It seems shortsighted to give people the impression that the only thing holding them back from having a healthy relationship with their parent(s) is choosing to forgive. Skipping off into the sunset with happy, healthy, supportive parents isn't a possibility for many folks, unfortunately.

Brian is 100% correct I forgot this rule for success and it has haunted me the last few years remember forgiving doesn't mean forgetting it just means you let loose of the burden of the hatred and anger can you set yourself free they no longer have power over your thoughts or feelings this is a wonderful thing

I really needed this! I forgive the whole world but I find it very difficult to forgive myself & my parents (if it’s a serious mistake on their part and they aren’t sorry). I mainly never forgive myself. I have been working on this, and I’m making progress 😇 This video helps me think positively in seconds. Downloading it so I can listen to it again whenever required! This is a little thing, but it felt really good. Back in my 8th grade year (nearly 30 years ago now), I had insulted another girl. That stayed with me. A few years ago was my high school reunion and I contacted this girl (now obviously grown) and reached out to her on Facebook... and I apologized. She didn't remember... but *I* did. And now, whenever I happen to think of that incident in my life... I can also remember that I reached out and apologized for it and took responsibility for it.

This video made me emotional. I think holding on to anger really affected my life in so many ways. Sometimes I'm thinking that I have already forgiven the people who had hurt me but sometimes when they suddenly appear in my thoughts and the hurtful things they did, I realize I'm still affected and hurt. From now on, little by little, I will do my best to forgive them completely including myself for all the wrong decisions and mistakes I did. By then, I'll be living a free and happy life with a genuine peace of mind ♥️. Thank you Sir Brian Tracy. Even if I haven't met you personally, I consider you as my life mentor. 🙂

Some of this has to be taken on a case-by-case basis. Forgiving one's parents does not always mean telling them you forgive them or seeking a closer relationship with them. It's very possible that Brian Tracy has no experience dealing with toxic, narcissistic, scapegoating parents who continue to abuse (even in subtle ways) their adult children. If that sounds like your situation, it's better to forgive them privately (just between you and God). It may not be wise to hold out hope or feed a yearning to reconcile with toxic parents. In fact, it may be necessary to self-differentiate from parents and set healthy boundaries, and perhaps more distance. There's no such thing as general advice that applies exactly the same for everyone. Seek the solution that's right for *your* situation. God bless you on your journey through life. Peace

Adriana Gaertner Yeah, I agree with you. I don't know if sending the letter is a smart idea. I think that you should take into consideration what the other person might feel because if you don't, you're basically reaching peace of mind at the expense of others. It should be a short wishing well letter rather than a long forgiveness report.
@xDinomanx10 жыл бұрын
The other alternative I recommend is not even sending the letter. But at least write it to yourself and then either store the letter away or burn it. That's a great way of gaining closure.
@OurBrainHurtsALot10 жыл бұрын
Luke Mitchell Yes, I agree. That's the most mature thing to do. If you send the letter you might get yourself into trouble or even start an argument with the other person, which is the last thing you want. Just make peaces with yourself regarding that person and move on. That's the best type of closure.

I wish spiritual teachers would talk more often about practical ways to forgive. They only state that its super important. This video is a good starting point. As long as we keep working on ourself we will make way better mistakes with our children and the will raise their children even better. Affirmations work pretty well in this regard. I use: "I forgive myself and everyone else in my life. We are all doing the best we can". Then you could record it with moments of silence in between and think of different relationships that need healing (while listening to the tape). If you are willing to forgive you will find ways to do so.
@5winder9 жыл бұрын
Zisch2 If people have no remorse, it is a bit self-delusional to 'forgive' them. Leave that to God... and live your life.
@Zisch29 жыл бұрын
You didn´t get my point. It is not about them its about myself. You can´t really experience the present moment if something (blame and guilt) drags you into the past. If they change or not of course is up to them. I wish for them whatever brings them happiness.

"Forgiveness Affirmation:" I release myself from all the demands and judgements that have kept me limited. I allow myself to go free - to live in joy and love and peace. I allow myself to create fulfilling relationships, to have success in my life, to experience pleasure, to know that I am worthy and deserve to have what I want. I now go free. In that process I release all others from my demands and expectations I have placed on them. I choose to be free. I allow others to be free. I forgive myself and I forgive then. And so it is.

I think its ok to be angry. So long as we bring it to a positive conclusion through forgiveness. For instance, to remain angry with the faults of others, is to revenge their faults upon ourselves.
