Joker here. I hate pipe burnout because I don't like to part ways with a good faithful pipe. I take care of my stuff.

You always could just saw of the burnt top and make a short pot from it for giggles and grins and use it for a tasting pipe. You might concider saving the bit of the pipe as extra parts at least. You might find a bowl missing a stem on day and bang! Your back in business!

hey Ron, good points there - yes, i'm definitely not tossing it in the trash; the bit will fit other Medico's, for sure ... if i get bored & get to feeling froggy this summer, i may jack around w/this pipe & mortar it & see how that works out ... as it stands, i have PLENTY of other nice pipes in my collection & am not hard-up to get this one back into service any time soon

I’ve never experienced burn out. In pipes anyway. Lol. The few estates I’ve gotten from eBay have been fine. Good chat

Burnout dead center bottom of a meerschaum,little hole, any ideas for a fix?
@bamagtrdude2 жыл бұрын
oh no! :( on a meerschaum pipe? they're not supposed to burn through ... i'd search KZbin & see if anyone has come up with anything creative -but no, I don't know how to fix burn-outs ...

I am always afraid of burnouts when buying estates

mentally, i'm always a bit anxious about estates - to date, i'd been batting 1000 - but not this time around

@@bamagtrdude dark spots on the outside are usually the biggest red flag right?
@bamagtrdude2 жыл бұрын
@@averagejon536 yup; rebornpipes (Google it) has an article on a restoration of a higher-end pipe he fixed w/mortar ... but ya, very dark spots on the outside, the taste of burning briar when you smoke the pipe (heinous!), and even the pipe making popping/crackling sounds are pretty much the dead give-away (to my knowledge) ...
@bamagtrdude2 жыл бұрын
@@averagejon536 another thing that can lead to a burn-out are fissures on the inside of the bowl (tobacco chamber) - some fissures look like spiderwebs ... so after you ream the inside of the bowl, look around for stuff like that - sometimes you can save it from burning out by applying some mud/mortar to the inside of the bowl ... there are pictures online of what to lookout for
