well ya - it ain’t a fix for heavy weeds - BUT one thing i’ve found in weeds is to hit reverse real hard for a second or two - then forward for a bit - then reverse real hard again - and usually it’ll tear the stuff loose ... not always but better than the original blade

Well damn. I was looking for a roasting episode. I am an amateur bean roaster that started about six months ago. I have made the flour sifter version, the bread maker version, a drum roaster that works like a champ. But now I use a FreshRoast SR800 and that little machine is a lot of fun and pleasure to use. I am finally getting the hang of profiles that I like. Chef Jerry Irmo South Carolina USA

@@bamagtrdude yes that’s what I’m being told by my doctor and the pharmacy. Without the vaccine you can get shingles more than once. Have to wait a couple of months after the shingles have cleared to get the vaccine. It’s in two stages get the first dose then a few months later the second dose. I’m getting it I don’t want to deal with shingles again.

Hi, is there a way to neutralize the head of a meerschaum estate after scraping it out? You can't go like Bruyere and do it with salt and alcohol.
@bamagtrdude
@bamagtrdude Ай бұрын
not with chemicals ... the only way that i know of to reduce/eliminate a ghost in a meerschaum pipe is to smoke A LOT of pure burley tobacco through them ... it can be a long, arduous process, but eventually it will go away ... do NOT smoke any aromatic tobacco in a badly ghosted meerschaum pipe - just let the burley do it’s “job” ...

I'm about to smoke my first pipe ever - a Meerschaum. But when you mention "freight training", won't that increase the lowlihood getting tongue bite? I'm wanting to do this right, and I don't want a bad experience to quickly discourage me. Maybe you could explain more of the difference of what typically leads to tongue bite and what you are recommending. Appreciate any info you can provide for this newbie!
@bamagtrdude

gently puff on the tobacco you smoke - tongue bite is somewhat of a complicated issue - can be caused by a number of things ... some folks get bit by virginia tobacco’s, some by aromatics, etc.

I have about equal numbers of modern & vintage cast iron skillets 11 vintage maybe 13 modern. I do have a special feeling when I'm cooking with the old stuff. I have all my skillets very well seasoned and enjoy using them all. I won't buy a skillet just to hang on my wall. I cook in my oldest one a 2nd series "ERIE" probably between 132-137 years old. Just cook cheeseburgers in it yesterday lol.

thx for commenting - i understand the desire to keep a meerschaum from coloring actually - some of the more intricately carved pipes are stunning & beautiful purely white (unsmoked) ... i would say that if you want your pipe not to color much, don’t smoke it very much at all ... once a week or less ... or perhaps on special days like your birthday, Christmas, etc ... it will more than likely still color some, but not nearly as much as frequently smoked meerschaum pipes ... i’ve gotten several “beater” pipes that i smoke a bunch & are heavily colored - but that’s why i bought them ... hope this helps

Are you going to post anymore cast iron videos? I know you have basically covered everything in past years. My grandpa was a guitar man and pipe smoker, but I'm into the iron lol. My grandpa owned a music store, was a great musician, teacher, and sometimes they hosted a radio show from the music store. He had some vintage guitars a 53' Telecaster, an old Gibson or Les Paul. After his passing my grandma made some local guitarist very happy as she had me sell off some unused Fender tube amps, charging only the original price tag amount still hanging from the handle. They were from 1972, huge in size if i remember correctly they were priced at $200. They were sold around 1999-2000. I still remember the smiles on their faces when they plugged in their guitars and hit the first chords lol.

I heard same great things about Crisco seasoning for CI. I recently bought 2 new Victoria CI skillets, a 10" and 12", I seasoned both with Crisco 3 times in oven to 'jump start' the seasoning, seasoning seems to accumulate very quickly, surface is very slippery for lack of better term. It is a bit difficult to apply before it sets up, so I have a small amount warmed up, keep the CI warm, and apply it in large sections at a time.

I've been scouring the internet for detail about cast iron and carbon steel usage on electric coil stove tops - nada. I'm glad you made this video for folks who want to know why. What I'm looking for is slightly different and I'm hoping you might know. I have a 7.5" burner - this is the largest burner I have. Can I use a 12" cast iron skillet or carbon steel pan which ends up having a cooking base diameter of about 9.5" - 10.2"s? Instinctively the answer feels no and I think I understand why. Question is, is there anything to make this work? Would using an Aluminium or Copper diffuser plate solve the uneven heat problem?
@bamagtrdude
@bamagtrdude 5 ай бұрын
thx for commenting - keep in mind that cast iron conducts heat very well - my advice would be to use a lower heat to warm the pan up before cooking - i have no experience with carbon steel or diffuser plates
