Thanks for going to the mat on this one, I've seen so many youtube travelers say to give the attendants sweets but it seems like a $2 isn't going to sway someone into an expensive upgrade! Plus, it does seem super awkward.....glad to see you back on you tube!

So awkward 😂 but I have done it since with Starbucks gift cards after chatting with crew about what they'd like, and that seems to go down well! I've had no extra perks mind, but it is nice to give a treat!!

I would have been surprised if it worked. The best you could hope for is slightly more attentive crew, or offering you vacant seats in your cabin, like James got. And I know this video was for *laughs,* but I would be too embarrassed to offer a £1.50 chocolate bar and hoping for any special treatment! 😊 Maybe a £15 bar of chocolate would be different! 😂

Last time I got an upgrade on the 2nd leg of my journey, was because I arrived at the airport for the 1st leg super early. So if there was seats available in the next class, on the 2nd flight we got them as "first dibs" I guess. If you are flying London-Dubai-Bangkok I'd check in super early at Heathrow and try and sweet talk at check-in, to see if they'd upgrade the Dubai-Bangkok flight later that day, as you'll be checking in well before people arrive at Dubai for that flight. Helps to have membership status with the airline too I guess!

I once got an upgrade for this same reason - but it was back in 2006!!! And they upgraded MY ENTIRE FAMILY. Incredible stuff - they don’t do it like that anymore!!

A long time ago, flight crews and gate agents had the ability to allocate empty seats to other passengers. Now, though, with connected operations centers and sophisticated priority rating algorithms, upgrades are almost always managed from passenger operations. UA, for example, allocates upgrades based on a combination of loyalty status, miles flown, willingness no give up accrued points for the upgrade, price paid for ticket, etc. If you are a budget flier, it is difficult to build status on any airline. You would never be able to jump the queue with a bribe of any kind. Anyone who claims to have bribed their way to an upgrade recently on a major carrier is not telling the truth,

First of all buy decent chocolate and for the whole crew. We get tons of chocolate and sweets from passengers every single flight and unfortunately is just an urban legend. You don't get an upgrade from buying chocolate to the crew.

My tactics have changed a lot since 😂😂😂 These days I'll buy some Starbucks gift cards and like the simple act of giving without expectations! However, I guess if anyone is looking to upgrade someone, they're more likely to go with someone that's done something nie for them... But I think you're right, whoever I spoke to GOT LUCKY!

Next time you need to get to/from the airport, use the MRT and BTS. My journey from my hotel in Ladprao to the airport took around 40 minutes (with one change at Makkasan) and cost 76p total.

Great effort nonetheless Chelsea 😅😎👍🏻 I think definitely the most surefire way to guarantee yourself a lie flat bed would probably be, as you know, redeeming points and miles to keep the cash cost down. From first hand experience, Emirates First Class is up there with the top dogs, I mean... Where else can you get a freaking shower at 35,000 feet for just £58 in taxes and fees* (*taxes and fees have sadly increased since I flew them in 2021 but it can still be a good time if you play your cards right)

Since this, I do still take treats on board long haul (Starbucks gift cards go down well!) but with zero expectation and actually, it's just a really nice thing to do (and you deffo do get better service 😂)
