"Brickfield Nights" was one of two videos recorded in Beijing for Chinese video show "The Sound Stage" on 24 January 2015 during The Boys ill fated tour of China. The Boys had arrived in Shanghai in January 2015 to embark on a nine-date national tour to promote their new album "Punk Rock Menopause" only to discover that the tour had been cancelled by the Chinese Ministry of Culture.
The official reason given was "crowd control and security issues" in the wake of the Shanghai stampede at a riverside New Year celebration. The Ministry of Culture had sent letters to all the venues on the tour telling them that if The Boys played there, their premises would be shut down with immediate effect.
Undeterred, the band set off on a cultural/culinary tour of China and along the way managed to play three secret underground gigs - promoted entirely by word of mouth and carefully avoiding official Chinese chat rooms and social networks such as Weibo. In addition, the band gave multiple interviews, were the subject of a one-hour documentary on a national TV channel recorded a live album, which was released on Action Records last year, as well as recording the two videos for "The Sound Stage."

There is NO WAY this isn't lipsynced. I don't care what the filmer says. That is not the current vocals of men around 60. Top song anyway - always was.

This video is a real live performance of their song filmed over several times playing it through. However, you are right, the audio backing track of this video was the recorded song from their CD, with the time changed to match the speed when they played it live in that room. This was common for many of the videos in The Sound Stage series simply because we did not have a professional sound person in our production crew. Unless the live sound recorded through our cameras was good enough, we would use pre-recorded versions of the songs to dub over the video clips.

The Sound Stage Fair enough. It sounds incredible however it was done. These guys should have a bigger legacy. They recorded a number of A+ PERFECT songs.

They are not miming. They performed this song for us several times so we could film from different angles. We chose one audio track for the video. Some of the other angles may not match up perfectly, but rest assured that this was a 100% live performance.

OK why didn't you use the live soundtrack? At least one of the camera takes would have been real. I dont see the point using a 40 year old record. There is a video performance form 77 on YT. People would be more interesting to hear them do it now - that is what you expect when you see the first frame of this. A tip for the future - get the drummer playing to a click track and shoot at least 5 different takes.

Brickfield is an area of Leeds where The Boys' singer/songwriter Matt Dangerfield grew up. www.leodis.net/display.aspx?resourceIdentifier=2007322_163074 Matt Dangerfield: Our house was right behind where the photographer is standing. It wasn’t landscaped and green the 60s, it was just wasteland with bricks and rubble hence the nickname Brickfield. Now it’s called Brickfield Park. We used to go to the St Francis of Assisi church on the left as kids.
