Really informative video, Jay. Love to see how things are done elsewhere. Makes total sense not to have a full fill cavity, I'm not a fan of that at all.

thanks Jim , yes seems not really logic , seems regulations can be different from country to country 🙏🏻

16:36 I agree. The UK system of cavity wall construction is principally about saving money - ie, less labour and fewer materials. They even call timber frame construction "cavity walls" - where you simply have an outer skin of brickwork or render attached with ties to timber and plasterboard, with a so-called "vapour" chamber. I'm pretty sure many Belgians would be horrified at such bullcrap!
@JimJimpmjj4 жыл бұрын
Excellent job Jay 👍, interesting how you do your damp. In the UK it's just dpc at floor level on the inner and outa skin of block/brick. I agree I don't get why we fill the cavity full of insulation defeats the objective of having a cavity. I think partial insulation in the cavity, so 75mm cavity with 50mm insulation this allows 25mm gap to allow moisture to move amp and escape. But from what I have seen they just fill the cavity full. Love your working method and quality 👍👍🍺

Goeie tekening Jay.
@rinse94844 жыл бұрын

Man, you’re almost a 2K!!! Way to go, keep up the good vids Jay! Good explanation on your damp proof layers. What’s the min. airspace in Belgium? I believe where I live it’s 1 inch...
@JayKTS4 жыл бұрын
Howdy Evan .. yes almost , but seems like sitting at that number for a while now lol not going up really , hope I didn’t step on too many toes with this one 😬 got a bit carried away in the story , well the airspace we try to handle 2 cm more or less this will vary a couple of mm’s depending of the tolerances of the bricks and insulation 🙏🏻🙏🏻
@evanking63294 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I had to go back and watch again because I don’t know who’s toes you may have stepped on... There’s more than one way to skin a cat and I guess no one wants to hear that there are different ways to do things... than their way... I guess that’s just human nature. I have had the luck to work with many different people, in many different installations... I have noticed that the better more interesting people share without hesitation, (I emphasize share, not force) their knowledge, know-how and skills without hesitation. In this one video you shared how many tricks of the trade and at the same time I see you learning how to use an alien trowel. That seems pretty f❌uckin’ stand up to me. If the Karen’s of the world get their buttholes all tied in a knot, that just proves that their a bunch a Karen’s and they will always get themselves all worked up... I won’t even get started with the “Safety Karen’s” either... C’est tout simplement mon opinion d’abruti...🦧 cheers and thumbs up your project looks awesome dude 😎 👍!

Hi Jay, really enjoyed the video mate 👍 Excellent explanation of the wall construction - your English is superb (you crack me up with all the slang), how have you learnt to speak / write English like a local ? I only work on old buildings mainly and they are 325mm solid walls in English bond with lime mortar so I dont really do much cavity work, thats why I found your explanation so interesting. Hope you have a great day mate 👍 Regards Tim

Compared to UK builds, the standard in Belgium is far better. In the UK, suspended floors and stairs are built using cheap Canadian softwood, whereas your reinforced concrete builds take much more time and skill to complete, and will last much longer. The cost of building like this in the UK would be off the scale, which is why it rarely happens.

weer een mooie leerzame update. Dankuwel! Nieuwsgierige vraag.
@JayKTS4 жыл бұрын

Jesus, no scaffolding, you're brave. We all know how easy it is to trip up on something and stumble on site, happens daily. We've all done it and that 1 inch drop is half a heart attack. I wouldnt be working on that with no scaffolding. I wouldnt take the risk.

@JayKTS Жыл бұрын

So this building will be water tight then jay yeah lol. 👍🏻👍🏻😎 hate seeing a cavity full insulation should always have a air flow. Ie 100mm cavity 50mm insulation. Leaving 50mm cavity. Would be my idea.
@JayKTS4 жыл бұрын
Lee yup exactly , 2,5 cm is good on my opinion , here they tend to make it rather small , 2cm , but sometimes the insulation is a bit thicker and some intolerances with dpc or something you get to 1,5 cm what is really thight 🙏🏼

@JayKTS4 жыл бұрын

Mate this is all good and all, but most of your videos have absolute zero health and safety. You could never do this in England for example, youd probably be arrested and fined. Why dont you just build a small 3 courses corner and then set out the profile inside? Since it seems like you need profiles for everything.. Im not even talking about the lack of protective barriers or the lack of external scaffolding for that means.
@JayKTS4 жыл бұрын
Sorry dude don’t want to build leads , this is how we work in Belgium nobody builds leads here only for small walls or in difficult spots , profiles are more accurate and in a lot of situations it has more benefits , btw I don’t use profiles always , when I think it’s not profitable I don’t use them , there is footage of it somewhere ( not much though but that is becos use we build grown ass walls for the most time 😬) peace brother ✌🏻
@KevinColt4 жыл бұрын
@@JayKTS bro I know.. Im just saying leaning off the edge of the building like that to set up a profile like you did, is ILLEGAL in many 1st world countries. Especially in England, you would be fined tens of thousands and get your company shut if not also arrested if you were caught doing this. Im not against profiles, Im against lack of health and safety, you dont have to do that, theres methods to be safe and fast and efficient other than risking your life.
@JayKTS4 жыл бұрын
Ok mate can’t argue with that 😬 , Belgium is not much different though , I can get fined here also for safety or they can close the site in a blink of an eye
