Hi Chris, my father has been a bricklayer for nearly 60 years. He is 80 years of age and still going. The only advertising of his business all these years was by word of mouth. Doing good work got him recommendations for countless projects. I've learned through him and people like yourself, quality is the best advertisement you can have.

Good to see a brickie building corners freehand..... Profiles everywhere these days and brickies say “they save time and get you earning” But a good brickie can build corners as quick as they can run in

Great videos, thanks for taking the time to make them. Have done a few small brick/block projects and always amazed at how fast and straight a professional builds a wall, a true skill. If the opportunity comes up, would you do a video on mixing mortar for bricklaying? Have always found a perfect mortar half the battle. Would be interested to know what admixes you use.

+NanoCottage Yes that's a great point. I will do at some point....I have recentlydone a repointing of two gables and used two different mixes for each side. I will be uploading that vid soon..

if you spread the mortar properly it won't look so rough and less holes to fill.

Hi Chris. Loving your videos. A couple of questions. At what point can you start pointing up? Can you also do a video about the various types of brick you can use and why you would choose to use one over the other. . I'm new to bricklaying, something I have not done much of. Many thanks.

+Zed Man Thank you for watching-:) Two good points! first question when is it best to point up or jointing as we also call it. I would highly recomend you point it up when the mortor has started to stiffen. Ifyou joint it when its to wet then the pointed area will look very bright and stand out...when its stiffened it gives a far better finish when the mortor has set, you also will be able to lightly brush the pointed area which helps to blend it in if the mortor is wet it will smudge over the face of the brick making a mess to your finished work. It also differes from brick to brick, some bricks are more porouse than others and you will need to watch the mortor and test it by pressing your finger into the mortor to test it...also waether conditions will creat quick drying example warm sunny days especially if the sun is on the working area. Winter conditions will give you more time due to the damoer conditions. A key to having good pointing is to keep your bricks dry!! I always cover mine to keep the rain off them...I hope that has helped. Second question I partly gave example in the first question, but yes will have to do a vid on that too..Cheers and all the best with your building work.

+Chris Longhurst I am told that you should wet the bricks first vides by Noel Marshall and you are advocating keeping them dry ... who is right ?
@foundationgood123
@foundationgood123 8 жыл бұрын
+Jack Jill The type brick I am using on this job has a tendency to smudge on the face. If these bricks get wet the mortar tends to bleed and leaves a messy joint when pointed up, and looks awful when dried out. For me I found keeping them dry gave me a better finish. It's all down to the person who is working the bricks and the weather conditions etc. Hope that helps..

Hi Chris, can you show me how to do a foundation for a conservatory.
@foundationgood123
@foundationgood123 8 жыл бұрын
+Sydney Thomas Hi, most conservatory's don't need building regs...the foundations would be like on any house extension- using a strip foundation type however you don't need to go as deep (meter down to the top of the concrete...and to so much depth of concrete...

What's my language got to do with anything?? I was a labourer yeah but you've got to start somewhere, I don't need anyone to talk about me I no how capable I am put it this way when your out there chancing it on private jobs I'll be creaming it on site with the big boys

+Steven Thompson Your language is from the gutter mate (so bad I can't allow it on my youtube) it gives the stereo type "thick bricky" who is unsophisticated and thick! Yes, you have to start somewhere I agree, but You are making a sweeping statement when you tell me you are confident in your own abilities. Well, I have a third year "City and Guilds" with distinction achieved over thirty years ago at Cauldon Collage, Stoke-On-Trent! I know how the Collage will scutinize all your plumbing points they will check you on every detail of working quality ie setting out, all plumbig points, sqaure, neatness, clean brick and so on. I have worked for many Building companies in the past and as a result have a wide range of experience infact as a result there is £1000's of pounds worth of knowledge in my head! People pay me for this, as a result I am recommended from job to job. My bricks are clean, my joints are level, my corners true. Come back to me when you have something to brag about. You are young and have a long way to go....don't be like the people who go on Xfactor thinking they are good only to find out from others that they are not!

Better than the shambles in Romania!!! Yes we have concrete and its better than the the Romanian concrete that is made from large stones and little aggregate...and we use bricks made from clay not mud and straw!...

Chris Longhurst are you a smart guy?wtf?we are using porotherm not mud and strow.AND FUCKING CONCRETE .A simple layer of brick can go as high us 1.2 meters.

Well you are trying to be smart first- Well mate, I have seen your and alot were washed away in flooding because they were constricted from mud bricks...they rebuilt them in mud too,,,(Salaj, Suceava, Siret, Timis, etc) Our buildings don't use contrete on the second floors we use wood and yes they are insulated too. done in different parts of the build as it progresses...Concrete is used on ground floors!

Chris Longhurst nice that you know that much about Romania.Yes the problem with that fuckers who use mud brick ist that they are cheap asses.Some of them the goverment give them money to rebuild but they fucking drink the money and start building from mud.No jocke here. I must be honest i am not sure if uk gut earthquacks or not.If you have that means that this type of house is fucked all ready.
