Bricklaying How to set the tingle (4 of 4)

Setting the tingle will help with the line sagging especially over a distance. Again live from the job I demonstraight how I do it.

Over here in Philadelphia we plumb the head joint, we dont level the brick. We leave the brick a little. High to the line, but we level the brick with the line

you shouldnt plumb the brick on a tingle the corners are the guvnors.....you could put a bow in the wall

I fill my top brick with mortar the holes then put two dry on top of that doesn't budge by the time you reach the top course always fill the top brick for sturdiness you can't go wrong

What do you use for a tingle plate and is it something that I would be able to buy ?

+Matt Harris You can use a folded piece of thin card (cigarette packet) - old credit card thats cut into a tooth shape or thin metal plate. Alternative any builders merchant will sell them, they are usually plastic. Hope this helped..

+ross Cartwright You can tighten the line, however the line could snap because of the tension and if you knock it the line will snap also if fresh built corners you could pull them out of shape by twisting the bricks. If the line is over a long span then yes its best to use a tingle in my opinion...hope that has helped!

Never plumb a brick in the middle of a wall , you should range it through , end up with a bow in the wall , or just fuck the tingle off and tighten your lines !
