Nice mix of sort of pick and dip with a buttered end with small trowel, then traditional long spread with your larger trowel. I remember back in the early 90s using thermalite and I think in the packaging it mentioned a 7:1 mix.

Just subscribed you must be a similar age to me im 63 started building in 1976. Down here in Cornwall it's all concrete blocks haven't done a huge amount of bricks since being in college. Laying 100mm concrete blocks for 47 years does take its toll but still enjoy it. Keep up the good work 👍

Great idea Andy using the finger trowel (slicker) behind the strap, it's a true saying that everyday is a school day. Bad luck about the van but at least you've dropped lucky being able to collar the wife's van, it'll probably cost half the money for the wife's car but at around £15k I'd imagine a guy like you will have that in your biscuit tin! 😉 The real bad luck was not getting half day Friday....🤣 Keep posting the videos mate 👍🛠

Alright Andy 👍 I'm doing a extension and renovation on my place as side project ...building regs changed in June they want either a 350 cavity or a 300 with 90 mm selotex insulation now no fibreglass...real bad practice that with the red clips you need on selotex and you could drop bit muck down and bridge cavity and no chance of seeing it or clearing with with 10-20 mm of cavity from back of brick to selotex...and the paperwork from waterboard has brought me to tears 😭

I worked in slough for a while on a Mercedes showroom new build we did 60 flats in lichfield for the same builder payed us out the back of his rolls Royce some weeks one week he payed us in cash as we walked back to the van he opened the boot of his rolls pulled out a shotgun saying give me my money back good times good laugh .

Liked your system with your boards and muck looks a good height to work at and good idea getting your blockwork up to height to help you onoverhand work! Shame about the transit she has done you a good service I’m at that point with my vivaro 62 plate causing me hassle but would have to down size if I get rid of it ! You to John, I am considering racking the van out then buying a midget trailer just for the mixer, I did this many years ago when I had a Cabstar truck, I had a trailer which would take the mixer,barrow, brickbarrow and water butt, just used to reverse it into the lockup and take it out when needed.

Nice one Boys, another tip is to not do the screws up fully untill you get to them, keep the cordless to hand otherwise the couple of courses either side of the screw are tight to get in, profile and Dutch pins better though IMO 👍👍👍

Just did a 2 story build overhand. Not hard but slower than normal. I'm in a delegate I have a truck and van. Love the van but it doesn't work on all jobs but the truck does but not as nice to drive. Two tax,s,insuances and services etc. Good if truck needs work to have the van but now can I justify 2 vehicles

Mines come a little loose, I think you need to cut some grooves inside the Handel with maybe a thin triangular file or similar.

I just downgraded from massive NV400 to smaller citreon dispatch - cart off - sub out - get ALL gear delivered. You always miss a larger van but you just gotta get your nut around it.

Probably more so one for the builder than yourself Andy, but I don't agree with the not cutting the cavity out on the extension abutment. Dampness may/may not be an issue in a southern england sheltered site but cold bridging certainly will be. Anyway enjoy your weekend and keep up the good work!

The mix you made without plasticiser using the Hansen cement, it looked like it wasn’t holding on to the mix water that well ( no cohesiveness) costs gone through the roof as regards eBay uk , what with the global shipping program charging import duties and extra postage costs ect since brexit ?ive bought a lot of stuff over the years off them at great prices . 5 meters of concrete last week 135 euro a meter ( cheapest price I could get ) those black plastic boards look good .

Any advice on a mix for my chimney I'm rebuilding. It's 2 flue, one of them is not used the other is going to have a multi flue burner with a liner down it. The chimney is 3m high from the eaves. Was thinking 4:1 and 1 lime and 3:1 no line and grano for the head. Any advice appreciated 👍🏻 From a ex Bricky but I'm always happy to take advice. Do you think lime is needed, could I just use 4:1. Lime at £17 a bag I could do without 😃

Depends on the bricks, the morter shouldn't be stronger than the bricks 3 and 1 might be to strong, if it was originally built in Lime morter some will say use NHL, 5 and 1and 1 with Hydrated lime should be good enough.

Bricks are fairly strong, I was just thinking about using 3:1 on the last 3 course as I'm using Staff Blues on those and dressing the original bricks for the rest. 👍🏻

It will do if there is to much Feb, sometimes even with enhanced cement you still may need to add Feb depending on the sand it's getting the right balance.To much Feb means to much air in the mix which will make it tear.
