Agree with ya on the front end.Daves just flows alot better.Dont like Dave's tires n rims.Sideshot Lego wins hands down.Rear end goes to lego.Overall lego is the champ.

The batmissile shape is pretty irrelevant since the lego set does NOT transform, if it did the batmissile would certainly be a bit awkward but the shape it has is much closer to the actual vehicle, which hides the batmissile, and has a more flat surface

Kiwi Kicker exactly. That’s probably an upgrade Bruce made in between the years of 1989 and 1992. Or just something the writers never thought of until 1992 when trying to think of new features for the Batmobile. Including the shin breakers and the little platform that comes out of the bottom of the Batmobile for him to spin around 180 degrees. I do wish this 89 model cane with the little bombs that he dropped in Axis chemicals though...

I personally don't like the added grooves on the MOC batmobile; while I get that the added detail is impressive, I feel like the side profile around the front just gets too messy with grebels; I prefer the cleaner front end of the official UCS set, especially since unless you've got it under a glass coffee table, the side's and 3/4 angles are what's going to be seen more than the birds-eye view. That being said, I think that the rear end is *really* where the UCS falls apart; the area around the tail-lights, _especially_ in the curve-up to the wings, is way too rigid.

yeah Dave's custom build has a couple of weaker areas that lego wouldn't let pass their durability phase, but you do get a few wonderful shapes from it

I think the steering on the UCS has compromised the model a bit and wasn’t necessary, even though the technique used is amazing. I think a ‘best of’ could be constructed from these. Would love to see what Dave would do with that! (I’d buy that instruction book too) The wheels.. I like the UCS having bigger rear wheels. Essentially I find the Dave one more visually satisfying, bigger isn’t always better!

The steering didn't compromise a thing. This model is very accurate when compared to blueprints, and to the pics of the ACTUAL MOVIE CAR. Comparing it to some random replicas from all over the net isn't exactly the way to do it. Also, just because dude here likes, for example, the hood more rounded doesn't mean that it's more correct, even on the pics he showed in the video while talking about the curve of the front forks you can see how the hood is as wide as the canopy. Also, this one is dated as the 1989 version, while the one that splits into the missle would be from 1991. Or the deal with the vents in the rear mudguards, he dislikes that LEGO's has a slight step because they should flow into the flat surface without a step, but likes the one on Dave's model although it flows into a slope that ain't there on the real car. Also, no word about the different ways the cockpit opens, or how different the guns rise, no word about the different sized wheels that are quite a prominent feature on the real car, no mention of Slater's light feature, no word about the handling of these, no word about the different techniques used in each model... There are many dircrepancies, and as someone else mentioned here, this comparsion is kind of shitty probably because they live off the instructions for Slater's version... Somewhat a shame, since I felt that their review was really nice.

MisterZumbi I think you are being a bit cruel. The review has been very helpful. There’s a compromise of blueprints to the workableness of lego pieces that has to be considered. I’m still going to get the official model for sure.

Why cruel? If this comparsion was like at the end of the review, as in "this has this, but that has that, here's this solved like this", then I could be considered cruel. But if you go that far and feel like comparing both to actual blueprints, well then do your homework properly, you can't compare the front curve to one set of blueprints, and then the hood area to a random image of a replica where it happens not to fit, but it did on the plans. Also, if you have a favourite, maybe try to hide it a bit better?

I think you missed out on a few key points. Now I realize you were mostly focused on build accuracy. However i think to be fair you could have included price comparison. Have to say for convenience and price I think LEGO would win over here. Overall I think they are just different and some people will like one over the other due to certain build aesthetics.

The tumbler does look somewhat in scale with the 89 batmobile. I'd be interested to know what measurements were used. This is something I've looked into for quite a long time, and it seems that the official length for the 89 batmobile of 260.7" is a little 'beefed up' especially when considering the size of the wheelbase and tyres. They did the same thing with the BvS batmobile. However, funnily enough, the Tumbler's official length of 180" seems to be accurate. Food for thought.

Leo N forreal LEGO is the only one to get the machine gun mechanism right so far. Many people build the guns attached to the front panels when in the movie the panels fly off and the guns come out. Important overlooked detail.

I just wonder why no one mentions the quality of that big cover plate on top of the canopy on the UCS model. It is by far my least favourite part of the model and in my opinion it is a bit of an eyesore to an otherwise amazing model. Its matt colour doesn't match up with anything else on the model and it looks like a cheap knock off part.

I have just bought and built the dave slater batmobile, absolutely blown away by it. It didn't however come with light bricks, is this normal? Can't believe it was less than £40 when the lego one is nearly £300.

Half of the pieces, no official license, for 40 pounds probably no box, decool copied a moc..lego is too expensive but Chinese blocks often steal projects...often there are missing pieces. I have this set and it s stunning (mine has working lights and gold rim in the front, paid 43 euros). The quality of pieces is really good. I prefer this one to the official one even if has less pieces, less internal details because the shape is more accurate to the movie one. Great moc. Lego one is great but should have been much better with over 3000 pieces and official license.

He really didn't. There are some minor bits better on the custom version but overall LEGO's version is a whole lot more accurate.

The moc one is more accurate in shape and proportions to the movie one. A lot of details are better on Lego ucs but it s due of the larger scale. With 1700 pieces vs the over 3000 of the official one the moc in my opinion wins. The position of the wings in the Lego one is wrong, the front is not so good ecc.. from an official set of 250 euros I expect much more. The Lego ucs is a great set of course but if you want the most accurate version the moc is the right choice. Maybe there will be another Lego ucs upgraded version with better proportions. Then it will be the definitive 89 batmobile.
