Explain to me why the banks need to charge a percentage of every digital transaction? This is extortion if we are forced to use digital currency for every transaction.

In long term it's to replace the other forms of tax like Income tax, TDS, consumption tax etc and the obly thing that remains it's transaction tax, a very small percentage of every transaction you perform. In a stable governance, tax is a reality and needs to exist.
