Ms. Hewiett thanks for the good run through. I only worked in AutoCAD for about 7 years due to job loss and it was in the AE industry so I have no where near your knowledge. It's been more than 10 years since I have done in CAD work. That said, I never lost my interest and decided to buy BricsCAD in 2017 for my own computer thanks to Bricsys producing a Linux version. It's great to have so much power even though I have much upgrading to do in my knowledge base. As I said, I have some learning to do still, but I'm so glad for the support of we Linux users. Thanks to Bricsys I have some ideas for application of BricsCAD I never had in AutoCAD.

Good overview to entice BIM workflows with BricsCAD Shape and BricsCAD BIM. I like what the Belgian company Bricsys has created the last few years.

cool...Sketchup + AutoCAD native file format & it does BIM. Well future will be pushing open BIM so anything goes.

I'll have to get an answer to this, but a HUGE key to supporting SKP format is maintaining Smoothing Groups. Revit does not which makes the format almost worthless for the app.

The quick overview of BRICSCAD-BIM is good to see as the product evolves further, however a good set of well structured videos taking the potential user from start to finish for a small project is something we’d be very keen to see. Makes no difference even if the software's better if US Government contracts specify Revit file deliverables - by name and version number. Not fair...

That is bad because Revit file is not very friendly with downgrade and the file format is proprietary. 10-20 years down how will the software read or access the file? Autodesk are known to kill off platform without giving them long term support. PLT, DWF, CAD and other format are created by Autodesk and future software won't be able to read these format. It is sucks if government are thinking of looking into future proof platform.

IFC support is lagging. Trying to use it with MEP BIM apps doesn't really work as well as the native format.

Exactly. This is why alot of our mechanical stick with AutoCAD Mechanical. So if BricsCAD can read native DWG, this will cut down on translation from IFC.

But a lot MEPs are now using Revit. Makes it hard for the Architect to use anything but.

Not where I live. Different cities will have different adoption. One mechanical contractor switch from Revit MEP to AutoCAD Mechanical because Revit is too restrictive and can't work with the firm workflow. Also they use AutoCAD Mechanical for manufacturing CNC fabrication.
