The best option is to do what Africans do with wedding dresses. In nigerian culture its called aso ebi. You get the same fabric of clothing and then tell your bride maids to get it sewn into a dress that matches them and you may put requirements like it must be long, sleeveless, no boobs etc . This way no one can complain if the dress doesn’t look good on them because THEY picked it. No guilt about the cost of their dress since they made the dress. No guilt about favoring one person over another when picking dresses. All your responsibility as the bride is, is to pick a pretty fabric.

I've been to weddings where the bridesmaids were given colors and told to buy whatever they liked, maybe with a few guidelines, like a specific length. My parents were married in 1937. (Yes, that's right). My mom had 8 bridesmaids in what she called a 'rainbow wedding'. All the same style but 8 different light colours. I think she was way ahead of her time with her rainbow theme. She wore a cathedral train silk satin gown, had a page boy holding the very end of the train, and also had a ring bearer and a flower girl.

Honestly I’m in favor of mismatching dresses. No way would I ask my friends to plunk down several hundred dollars for a dress they don’t like. And I don’t like the idea of treating the maids like they’re part of the decorations. I just want them to all feel comfortable, beautiful, and loved. The vest thing is to give a colour and everyone then chooses based on a colour theme! It's best for everyone. Still all look matching.. But everyone has what fits them best.

i like the idea of mismatch dresses as long as theyre the same color, length, material and maybe the same designer. i think it looks better when the bridesmaids have individuality.

You can tell this was filmed years ago. The trend now is same color, different fabrics and styles; same color family, same fabric but different styles; same color and fabric, different styles. The whole "matchy matchy" idea is out. I appreciate the idea the bride was going for. I wish Lori wouldn't set rules for what she considers appropriate, because she's old-fashioned

I know of a bride who made all the dresses herself. Yes, even her's .They were 70s style and beautiful. All the same style but the bride's. And all pastel colors, like a pastel rainbow. Gorgeous, but they over shadowed the bride...all eyes drawn to the brides maids. That said she was happy. A D the pictures so lovely, a bride surrounded by a garden of pastel flowers.

The consultant is a pain. My friend did this. the only stipulation was it had to be the same color. Any style we wanted, just the same color.

I actually don’t get the idea of the bridesmaids wearing the same dress. We in the middle east don’t do that, the bride’s/groom’s family and friends all wear different yet special dresses. I think this way everyone can be happy

Last wedding I was at the bridemaids criteria was the same color, length, fabric, and designer - and they still had a large variety to chose from, a-line, halter, ruffles, one shoulder, straps, strapless, you name it - they all got to pick their style but was still uniform
