I'm not Greek but my family was completely involved in my wedding. Grooms, mother made the cake, grooms sister in law made the little mints for the cake table. The 2 of them together made the table decorations. My younger sister did the flowers, my older brother gave me away as my father had passed away, my sister and brother in law were matron of honor. and groomsmen, my niece was Jr bridesmaid and nephew was ring bearer. My grooms brother and sister in law were bridesmaid and best man. The grooms children were flower girl, Jr groomsman and ring bearer. We each had 1 friend as bridesmaid and groomsman. My mother paid for the church and Minister and caterer. As I said it was a total family affair and was absolutely perfect. The day couldn't have been any better. It wasn't a huge wedding, about 200 people. We were fortunate enough to have a photographer as well as a videographer. One from the front of the church and the 2nd from the pack,. No one helped me pick out my dress as I made it and all the dresses for the wedding party. I also made my grooms tuxedo as well as tuxedos for the young boys. I had the perfect wedding that I had always dreamed of and didn't have to spend a small fortune to do it. I waa working at a formal wear store at the time so I could have bought a dress had I chosen to but I had always dreamed of making my own dress. I had made many dresses in the past so I was up for the challenge and I finished all the clothing in 6 weeks time as that's all the time we had to plan our wedding

I LOVED the Big Fat Greek Wedding movie, so freakin hilarious & I would've LOVED to be at one of those family gatherings! The fact that it was produced by a Greek woman (Nia Vardalos) also gives it validity that this is EXACTLY what its like to grow up in that sort of family. As someone with an Italian background, who loves to be surrounded by good food & good company (& I love to feed people too, not just eat, lol), I wouldn't have been thrown off by the excess AT ALL! I It would've been right up my alley!

This was a fun event for the whole family!! Love it. I was always jealous of my greek friends, they have so much help getting started in life! I married my best friend and most of our friends didn't have money, so we got a bunch of picnic baskets and tokens that were sentimental and sweet. 27 years now! I'm lucky.

Living in Greece, I've been to several Greek weddings - and to be honest, there's not a lot to choose dress-wise between a Greek wedding and a Gypsy wedding. TOO MUCH MATERIAL in both.

in our country we dont put the money in the dress but there will be someone sitting infront of the door who will be receiving the money from guests also while the bride and groom dance people will put money on them and that will be couple of thousands. sometimes it even covers the wedding expenses and on bridal shower we give gifts to the bride who will help her for her future house
