This is why, when I was doing alterations on any gown or formal dress, I insisted the bride step on a scale, write the weight on a note & seal it in an envelope that I kept until final try on … protect yourself as a seamstress & the bride as a customer

6 inches is ALOT of weight gain. considering it's about 8lbs per Inch. She's wrong about it being 20 lbs. it's more of about 48lbs. Honestly, I lose inches and not lbs when I work out. I've lost 2-3 inches before and was the same weight the entire time. That's because I lost bodyfat not weight. And I can assure you 183lb at 20% body fat is going to look different than 183lbs at 25% body fat. Girl may not have gained weight. she may have just gained body fat and not realized it. People look at that scale like it's the whole story when it's just a small part of it. edited: because I put 8" instead of 8lbs.

For those saying the 2nd bride was "honestly shocked" - It's denial and disbelief. When I was heavier, almost all of my clothes were loose flowing or stretchy so I didn't notice if I gained weight, they still fit. She's clearly gained a lot of weight but probably didn't notice in her clothes, or is in denial about exactly how much she gained - that's why she's acting shocked. She doesn't want to believe it, but reality is crashing down on her in real time. Notice how her family doesn't really back her up? They hang their heads with a sort of "well crap...she did gain weight" demeanor without telling her that outright.

Your body shape totally changes and the complaining that it makes her butt look too big, or just bigger generally won’t be such an issue. She won’t be losing that weight in 6 months either and she said they are in the pre-planning stage. Think she got a bit ahead of herself, but this may give her the impetus to stick with the weight loss, even with wls you can still not lose weight if you eat the wrong things

It’s irritating me to no end that they didn’t charge the second bride a dime for the alterations. If I were Vera I’d be pissed the other lady didn’t back me up. A decent discount I can understand but to throw away $1000 because the bride is delusional is ridiculous. I did this with my dress. I was so scared I was going to gain weight (I am a bigger lady) that I was almost sick it wouldn't fit. Thankfully it did, but I knew I had to watch what I ate (for my health and my dress) to ensure it fit on the day of the wedding. Everything’s different when cameras are rolling. Kleinfeld had to save appearances. . My sister worked bridal for a few years, and brides ordered their gowns at their aspirational or assumed size, rather than their actual size all the time, despite the advice of consultants to order a size or two up to allow for all the lace, etc. that tends to tighten up the garment. Some brides flat out refused, and the consultants would note that in their file, in case something like this occurred. Since these segments are so heavily edited, that might have even have been the case here.

I'm a bigger girl too and I can feel for both these women, I can certainly understand the frustration and humiliation. However, to go to a high end professional and tell them they took the wrong measurements when they've been doing this for a hundred years, unbelievably insulting. I can tell the alterations manager was holding back everything. I think at some point had it been me I would have just yelled we measured you we ordered the dress. We did our part. Just because you can't face reality with having gained 20 or some odd pounds doesn't make it our problem. she's wrong about that anyway. 6" is about 48lbs. Not 20. I don't lose weight myself. I lose inches when I start to work out and take better care of myself. I've been the same weight for years, but I have been different sizes over the years. She might not have gained weight, she probably gained body fat which isn't the same. You can gain body fat without gaining weight. And lose it without losing weight. If she's not into fitness, she probably doesn't realize that. So her saying "I didn't gain weight" could be true.

Randy is so right about dress and body type. If she wanted a certain body type for that style of dress she needed a corset. There is a reason why they corset dresses, to give you a shape you want. She needs to try a shop that caters for plus size.

I felt so bad for the first bride. She came across as quite picky at first, but part of that is her insecurities. Bless her fiance. I think she should wait until after she's had surgery before trying again, even if that means buying off the rack. The second is in serious denial about her weight gain. I had only found out I was pregnant, wasn't showing at all, and couldn't believe what she was saying. She was correct, eight months later a healthy baby boy was born.

People need to understand that measurements and the scale are two completely different entities. The scale can be the same, but you can see a big difference in measurements. I worked as a diet counselor for years and have tried to burn this into people’s brains.

Wow, the Klienfelds team really know how to serve a client and make her feel good about herself. The first bride looked nice in the corset-style dress, but she wasn't feeling it. Perhaps she will change her mind as she tries on more dresses. The second bride was rude and I'm sure that she knew that she had gained weight. But the Klienfelds team treated her graciously and made things good for her, took the loss, and gained much goodwill from the viewing public.

You don't have to be rude and demanding to get the service you need. I get being assertive, but these too brides walk into a salon that doesn't specialize in plus size fit, and you expect to pay the same cost as a person who is smaller, but you use more material to achieve the look you want. Its only so much that the salon can do. I am frustrated for both brides, but I also Kleinfield's side. They need the ladies from the Essex bridal show to fit these brides.

The first bride set herself up for disappointment. Why on earth would you shop for a wedding dress right before a gastric bypass surgery?! Once she loses all the weight, she will more than likely hate the dress she had first purchased because now she can fit into more different types of dresses. Big mistake to do that. She should have waited until losing all the weight until about 1-2 months before the wedding and just get a stock piece. She is quite immature as well. It was difficult to watch. Poor guy.

This bride doesn’t understand how clothing fits if she thinks any item of clothing can just be “sized up” - panels have to be added to expand a dress or that a larger size must be ordered, and the bride can keep blathering but she’s full of it. That’s not how it works. Also, leave bride - you don’t get alterations for free. Full stop. And this bride makes me angry - she essentially blackmailed this store. Her behavior is grotesquely entitled.

Think about it though, millions of people have seen this video and look how many have commented on it. You know she has looked at this video and told friends to look at it too, not a good situation for her. The store did the correct thing, preventing a bigger (sorry for the pun) problem by not charging for the alterations, would you have wanted to deal with that attitude and temper? It would have been more satisfying to give her the dress and say good luck.
