HERE IS WHY: When Sierra went under Blizzard Activision bought up the IP and gutted MASSIVE entertainment, they shelved the game and sold it to Ubisoft. ubisoft took what they had to the Soviet Assualt XPAC got it released and then clossed the studio and shelved the IP once more. There's a Large Address Aware file that you can grab off moddb. I just googled "World in Conflict out of memory" and the first result will provide the link. There's also a couple of KZbin vids that show you how to install it.

not quite. The current day VDV is not the VDV of the 1980´s, todays russia is not the sovjet union. Back then, the sovjet military was about ten times larger and the more "elite" formations like the 1st guards were equipped with state of the art equipment that was equal or better to NATO equipment, but in significant larger quantity. As comparison: Leopard 2 and M1 in the early 1980´s were roughly equal to T-64, T-72 and T-80 in armor protection, firepower, mobility etc. The only advantages Leopard 2 and M1 got, were higher precision of the main gun and slightly more advanced fire control systems and gunners optics over T-64 and T-80. The sovjets could field around 16.000 T-72´s, 10.000 T-64´s and 5000 T-80´s PLUS about 50.000 T-55´s and another 30.000 T-62´s. Not all of them at the same time, thats true. NATO could field around 2000 Leopard 2 by 1985 and another 3200 M1 Abrams (with 105mm gun), a measily 400 Challenger 1´s and everything else (another about 6000 vehicles) were 1960´s Leopard 1´s, AMX-30´s, a handfull Chieftains, M60´s. In NORTHAG (northern strategic command defense sector in germany, aka Lower Saxony and Northrhine Westphalia (federal states of germany)) NATO would muster 1000 Leopard 2A4, 900 Leopard 1A5, 1000 Marder 1A2 IFV´s, 500 M109A3G SPG´s, 40 M270 MLRS, 120 LARS MLRS, 100 Jaguar 1 and 2 tank hunters, 400 TPZ Fuchs APC´s, 100 Luchs heavy scouts and a few other things as part of the Bundeswehr Deployment 1st, 3rd and armored and 11th mechanised divisions and supporting elements, tasked with defending the area. This was supported by about 400 Challenger 1 and Chieftains, 600 IFV´s and APC´s etc of the UK BAOR. They were faced by 8000 T-64, T-72 and T-62 MBT´s organised in 3 tank armies of the sovjet union. Similarly the weight of power towards the sovjets was balanced in every other strategic defense sector (CENTAG, SOUTHAG, LANDJUT). So if you compare todays russian army with what the sovjets would have done, you see a drastic loss in capability and proficciency. If the sovjet union were fighting ukraine and not basicly bankrupt russia with an alibi army equipped with left over scraps from 1989, things would look differently. First of all the initial artillery barrage we have seen around the initial stages of the war, would be the norm on every front. Sovjet doctrine was weight of fire supported by agressive and massed advances of heavy elements coordinated by army command. Meaning a wall of artillery pushing the enemy of its defenses and then a steamroll of tanks supported by mechanised infantry would finish the job, repeat with the next line of defense. First wave of combat divisions is attritioned? no problem you got 3 more waves of fresh divisions to take over, while the initial ones regroup. VDV air assault on hostile air bases? no problem, hit the air base with a full air landing and air assault division (10.000 men + armor) in 2 waves, first wave is heliborne and para dropped to secure a landing zone, second wave brings tank bataillons and mechanised air landing brigades via air transport in. Air Cover and Anti AA Missions are flown by the VKS (air force) en masse to support the operation, until your regular army forces arrive via land. Todays russian VDV is in comparison to the sovjet VDV of the 1980´s a lousy joke in respect to capability, size etc. And the russians also made alot of critical errors in planning and exectution. its a big missconception that you can assume the capability and performence of the sovjet army of the 1980´s if you take examples of the russian army of 2022. Its like saying the equipment situation of the german army of today is a benchmark for the one of 1985. (today the bundeswehr got alot of very high tech equipment, some is just about the best stuff you can buy for money, but due to funding cutbacks and reforms, spareparts and maintenance are low, so lots of stuff does not work, but in 1985 the Bundeswehr was the second largest army in NATO after the USA and had better equipment than basicly everybody in NATO except the USA and superseeded even the USA in some areas, like the Bundeswehr had the largest anti air capability of all NATO partners etc)

@@michaellacea5097 dont confuse modern day Russia with the Sovjet Union. The sovjet army was way better organised and structured than the modern day russian army. They got a functioning officer and non-comissioned officer corps, proper supply trains, functioning and well maintained, often state of the art, equipment etc. Russias military today is not the "Red Army". Nor is it even close to the armed forces of the russian sovjet republic (the russian republic in the sovjet union, wich got THE BEST and newest stuff of the USSR arms developements) The russian military today is at maximum a very pale shadow of what the sovjet military was in 1985. In 1985 the sovjet union would have buttfucked NATO in europe in a conventional war. Sovjet Equipment was close to equal in capability to NATO equipment. But they got like 10 times as much as NATO. The point is, World in Conflict is situated in 1985, this is not Russia, but the USSR and warsaw Treaty Organisation. Russia was only a small part of the USSR in total and the warsaw Treaty was far larger than just the USSR. (USSR is Russia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Ukraine, the baltic states and Belarus in a single "superstate", warsaw treaty are the other sovjet satelite states like Czechoslovakia, Jugoslavia, Poland, GDR etc) *just as a size comparison: Today russia has 45.000 men in the VDV with 4 air landing "Divisions" that are actually in the Size of Regiments (around 6000-8000 men each) In 1985 the sovjet union (just the USSR, not the total warsaw Treaty) had about 150.000 men in the VDV with 8 full sized air landing divisions, wich include air landing tank brigades etc.

@@hammeredgem.j.c.9030 The invading military would not have much problems Any civilian picking up a gun is per Definition an unmarked hostile combatant, wich legally makes him an insurgent/partisan, wich are not protected by Geneva convention and hagues convention. Due to this the civilian can just be shot and must not taken into captivity. Meaning every civilian with a gun is a dead men walking, provoking indiscriminate fire upon civilians. An invading force like the vdv would not hesitate. Same as the USA did not in vietnam with indiscriminate napalm and carpet bombing
