CORRECTION - A super pitch at Chatsworth Caravan & Motorhome Club is £50.70 for two adults in April 2023 versus £37.24 we paid here at Bridge House Marina. This relates to my comment near the end of the video.
Join us as we stay at our first marina caravan park and explore the surrounding area. See the Lancaster Canal and aqueduct, the ancient market town of Garstang and a visit to a cheese makers.

Hi Rob & Gail, must say, this is a lovely looking site. We've been to a few sites now where an electric card is purchased or meter readings taken start and finish of your stay. It does seem to be a growing trend. Look forward to your next trip. ATB, Dave & Helen.

Hello Dave & Helen, Metered electricity is a very fair way to pay for your consumption. Like yourselves we caravan through the winter months and it’s here we would notice the significant increase. We are definitely going to change our habits and be more mindful in the future. Turning our hot water heater off during the day whilst we are out and most certainly through the night will make a difference. It’s opened our eyes. Thank you as always, Rob & Gail 👍😀

Hi Rob & Gail you’ve found another little Gem. Like the location for lots of lovely walks. Metered electric is the future for all of us. Like the way your unused portion is refunded. I can’t see that happening on every site. Thanks for time and effort you’ve put in to sharing your holiday with us.

Hi Colin, Yes it certainly was lovely having marina and canal so very close by. Of course great weather is always a bonus as a rainy canal walk wouldn’t have been much fun. We’ve only stayed at one other site with a metered pitch and the owner came and took a meter reading just as we were ready to leave. This was nearly three years ago and the daily rate worked out at £3.20. As you well know Colin these videos take some making / editing so it’s lovely to receive such a positive comment. Thank you 👍, Cheers, Rob & Gail 😀

It was a good holiday Graham 👍. We quite fancied cruising down the canal but never enough time to do everything. On our last day I shouted the swan and he came straight over, so I think he understood me, really I do 🤣. We didn’t think our electric bill was too bad either, although I got my facts wrong with the Chatsworth comparison and only quoted for one person… Rob’s Wrong Ways again ! 🫢 . I remember staying at a card meter site about 3 years ago (during temporary reopening's), and the meter had a few quid left on it when we hooked up! When we checked out we got our money back, plus the rest of what was already on there. This was on the Willows at Laceby Lincs. I would prefer to continue with fixed price electric though, especially in the cooler months. Cheers Rob!

Hi Rob and Gail, great content as usual in your review. One thing I noticed is that you quoted £36.40 per night at Chatsworth, but that is only for one adult. It's actually £50.70 for two adults on a super pitch, so you paid a lot less. All the best to you both.

Hello Peter, We’ve just been having a look at Thorpe Park touring site and made a note ready for next year (we’re all booked up for this summer) so thank you for that 👍. Agree the club have raised their prices. The Chatsworth / BHM April comparison I quoted at the end of the video was in fact incorrect. I hurriedly checked the prices but only quoted for one person not two, so the actual price for the club in April was £50.70 per night versus £37.24 at BHM. We will however continue to use club sites as sometimes their locations tick the box. Thank you for watching and commenting. Best regards, Rob & Gail 😀

Glad you did the calf and that included you showering in the van as well. Play this back 10 years and wifi was unheard of and electric included. In fact many caravan manufacturers were going full electric. Now we’re going back to gas and reliant on solar more than ever. It’s a challenge for the clubs and sites in general. Make electric all inclusive and you have those that take the pee. Your example demonstrated that it can be almost status quo.
@robswiseways5697
@robswiseways5697 Жыл бұрын
Hi Justin, We had the heating on 500w through the night as it was chilly, we wash the pots in the caravan and we both shower daily. We always leave the electric water heater on low all the time and of course this trip we had seven showers reliant on electric only. Taking all this into account I don’t think our electric cost was too extortionate. We purposely didn’t cut back on our electric usage as we were curious with the outcome plus we didn’t want to let it to spoil our holiday. Totally agree it’s certainly a challenge for all sites and surely some of the all inclusive cheaper sites must be making very little profit or running at a loss. Oh by the way at the time we purchased our Olympus, Bailey had introduced an all electric Orion called Evo, but they soon discontinued it. Thank you very much for your comment and all the best, Rob & Gail 👍😀

Another lovely site you've found in a really nice area. You had me at Cheese Shop! Even with the cost of the electric on top I think it's still working out cheaper than club sites, they're averaging around £40 or more for us as we can't get away mid week. What would worry me is you can't be sure what individual sites are charging for their electric, there's bound to be variations round the country and what stops someone else plugging into your supply when out all day? We'll all have to get used to it I suppose.

Hi Rob & Gail, another brilliant Vlog and thank you for sharing. I know swans mate for life but we think you've got a friend for life with the hungry swan on the canal 😂. Thanks for the lentil pasta idea we will be giving it a try so nom nom 🤞.. We love the electric metering systems as it stops folks from abusing energy. The energy tariffs throughout the country are a bit of a mess as so many sites are on different tariffs but I'm sure it will settle down soon. We are currently on a CL in Cornwall paying £1.05 Kw which is all the owner could get when their contract expired last year but we've been assured this will come down later this year, our current daily cost of energy is around £5 a night and as we don't use gas we are more than happy.. We are very pleased you enjoyed our latest holiday capers, we had a great time capturing it all on film. Good to hear you’re going to try our latest caravan tea recipe, so quick, easy and tasty 😋. Your electric rate is double compared to what we paid which must be a real headache for site owners. We have a CL booked for August where 10 units of electric are included in the pitch fee but you have to pay extra if you go over. We couldn’t manage without gas for the dual fuel shower water heating. We had to shower a bit quicker relying on electric only much to Gail’s dismay 😧. Hello Jonathan, Had ours been 32p / kWh it would have reduced our bill by £11.34 for the five nights stay. The owners of Bridge House Marina told us they managed to negotiate the 50p rate after initially being quoted £1.25 ! Howard Palin commented the CL they are staying on are charging £1.05 / kWh ! It was all the owners could get after their contract expired. Prices are all over the place at the moment, at least you won’t need the heating on at Crofton in the summer 😀. Hi Pete, Pleased to hear you’ve chosen an allroad 👍. It’s a good compromise between a suv and estate. My car is 11 and a half years old and I’ve owned it for 10 years. It came with the factory fitted folding tow bar. You could have one retro-fitted but no doubt would cost three times more than the new car options list price. Whichever type you choose, be it fixed, detachable or folding I would highly recommend the dedicated wiring kit and also have the car correctly coded so it knows it has a tow bar and knows when you have plugged the caravan in. It will activate tow mode and the cars trailer stability programme. It will also make certain adjustments to other electrical equipment depending on what options your car has. I have a video you can search for, type in caravan towing Audi tow bar systems. It’s one of my early videos, a bit lacklustre 😁 but the detail is there. Hope this helps. All the best, Rob

@@mirror1966 Thank you Pete, I have the Milenco grand aero mirrors. My mirrors are 10 years old, quick to fit and have never been an ounce of trouble. The closest match on their website is grand aero 4. Maybe try some before you buy to make sure they fit. Hope this helps. Cheers, Rob

Hi rob, must say, what a schoolboy error running out of gas, myself it never happens, you need to get yourself a Truma Gas Level control Monitor, I always know exactly how much gas is in my bottle.

I really asked for this didn’t I 🫢! And I’ve only got myself to blame. Definitely ‘unwise’ of me ! I knew I was low but not that low 😂 and I didn’t carry the full gas bottle I’ve already got at home because of the hefty nose weight of our Olympus. Many thanks for watching and commenting James 👍. All the best, Rob & Gail

@@robswiseways5697 hi rob,thx for your reply, you do make me giggle,but seriously, I don’t have 2 gas bottles in my van, as like you I don’t want the extra weight, so I use one 6kg with a Truma monitor, while away I’m always looking for 20% gas left because I know when I get back home I can either switch bottles or sometimes I’ll just take a full 6kg bottle in the car (yes the car not the van) on our next trip out. This way I can get every last bit of gas out of my bottles before I switch them out. Every penny counts! You and me are so much alike according to my wife, god help us all the day we bump into each other .LoL.

Sorry not paying £30.00+ for electric. It does not cost that for a week at home. Profiteering at its worst. 👎 Glad I watched though.

Hello Kevin, We were told in reception they had negotiated the price per kWh down from £1.25 to 50p. Have to agree with you it’s not a cheap nights stay but we had a jolly good time there. We could have got the price down by turning the water heater off when we didn’t need it and using site facilities. Thank you very much for your comment and all the best, Rob & Gail 👍😀
