The abutments exist on the bridge ends for the bridge ends girders and connection to the road. The abutments might be simple with or without wing walls depending on the topography of the surrounding area.
This video showcases how the abutment is cast at the ends of the bridge and the reinforcement details for the abutment wall, shear keys and block pads. The blocks are placed with rubber pads to absorb shocks and provide a resting place for girders and in few cases for the approach slab (not neccessory).
