So, her accepting this role was very vital and the emotions that she portrays of a mother having her son missing is so raw and real because she was closely connected to the real-life missing person's case.

Fun Fact: In the original airing of season 1 Jonathan DOES in fact take pictures of Nancy and Steve through the window (solidifying his position as a creep in my books) but sometime around the release of season 4 they cut that bit from the first season and that is why Steve later breaks his camera not only because he was stalking their pool party but he had also taken and developed nudes of Nancy

Some of ya'll try to make Mike sound awful lol. Like any normal human being he just wanted to help a lost person, while obviously having no clue where she came from. At the beginning of the episode, he was going to tell his mom but after finding out she was in trouble, he refrained from telling anyone and continued to hide her and keep her safe. This was before he even knew she had powers.
