That doesnt make a lot of sense to me as they all look the same and also look the same as the wild bisons. I also never saw the animal buddies as domesticated. As they do not appear to be different from their wild counterparts apart from being more chill. So they appear to not be domesticated but just tamed or grown up around people. The thing is, it's not simple. Rava won the fight, but still humans resisted being at peace and when Rava and Vatuu was still locked in the fight at the beginning, the people in the city was still mean and oppressive. Even though we hold the bigger chaos at bay some chaos is our own and will always come through if we let it.

They even state that if one is destroyed they still exist and reform in the other..they arent all powerful forces of good and evil, just agents of chaos and order, light and dark. So frustrating that people still boil them down to such simple imagery when they SHOW you its not.

Many believe it ruins the old theory of how bending became a norm for humans with the animals teaching the people how to use it. But the thing is that it only brightens it. They do not contradict plus its totally expected that in the time of aang, they had lots of myths and legends about history that could just be false

The Lion Turtles gave the literal ability to bend to humans, but it was the animals like dragons, badgermoles, and Bison (and the moon) that humans learned spiritual meaning and technique from. I'm hoping the new Earth Avatar(s) touch way more on this stuff too.

Unalaq is like so many people throughout real world history - there have been many who have tried to summon demons [does not matter if they exist or not and if they do, whether they can be summoned or not - the people believed they were real and could be summoned] and why? Because they believed they would be able to control the demon and the demon would give them great power. I have often wondered at this kind of stupidity, but it comes from people who think they are far more clever than anyone and only they can do whatever it is that needs to be done. I've known a few such people over the years and Unalaq definitely fits the pattern.

I gotta say I hated the decision to change the spirits to a good/evil morality rather than the more blue/orange morality of ATLA which was more interesting. Or if they had a bit more of an element of Vatu representing chaos and freedom vs Raava order and stagnation or something like that that is less obviously 'good' and 'evil.'

I used to love this 2-parter when it first came out. But after a lot of rewatches and time to think more on it, I've realized how much my love for it came from my dislike of Korra season 2. Now I hate this story for a number of reasons. I hate that we got an origin of the Avatar to begin with. It ruins the mystery which was what was always exciting about the avatar. I hate the conceptual idea of Raava and Vaatu. I know the writers were trying to go for a yin and yang type of spirit connection, but thats not what we got. We instead got a westernized biblical allegory in the form of God and Satan. Theres no true balance between the two. Vaatu is just this evil spirit that gave no indication his presence was needed in the world. I miss the eastern philosophy and influences they had in the original series. Its essentially non existent in Korra. And I hate how this essentially breaks up the entire plot of season 2. I wont say anything else for spoilers. But it ruined what made the start of the season's story so interesting and felt so out of place as a narrative choice. I liked Avatar Wan, but I dont like that they chose to create him.

I think they may have screwed up the timeline, or at least didn’t clearly explain it. 10k years doesn’t explain all the previous Avatars, it should have been many 10k cycles to cover all those statues IMO. Let’s say they live about 80 years average, which we know at least one lived much longer. That is 125 avatars in 10k years. I feel like it was more than that, those statues went way up in that room.

@@TopNotchWatcher87 Personally, I assume the average age is somewhere between 30-50. If we go by that then there has been somewhere between 200-333 Avatars. As an example, a six-foot statue with a three-foot base area would have a volume of 18 cubic feet. Also remember that there seems to be enough space in between for another statue in-between each one. I think, considering the size of the temple, that between 200-300 Avatars makes sense.

Lore wise I wished that both Raava and Vaatu fused with the Avatar instead of having one seeled, because you can't have one without the other and having balance and all that. Also the spirits I liked more in the original show because they were neither good or evil and better designed. We had a panda spirit that was spiriting away because ot was upset about the forest being burned down, but turns back to normal when you calmed it down. An owl spirit that collected knowledge, but became upset when you misuse it. And a staight up centipede face stealer who just seem like an ass.

I don't think it would make sense for him to try and create balance if part of him was chaos. And regarding the spirits ; I do see your point in that they were cooler in ATLA. More mystically cool . Here - at least in these two episodes - they are much more human-like and then in most other episodes of LOK they are faceless entities that just attack - so more animal like with no mind or wants of its own. It's hard to describe. But I kinda get your argument.
