It's easy to miss, since it was happening in the background of bigger stories, but there's a good reason for Colin acting the way he was this episode. He's always been the sweet, sincere, naive, romantic, excitable boy he was in the beginning. But he spent the last two seasons being either taken advantage of (by Marina, Jack Featherington, etc) or mocked (mostly by his family) for those very qualities. He finally fulfilled his lifelong dream of traveling only to return and find that no one cared. In fact, him trying to share anything about it was seen as insufferable, annoying, a burden. He learned the lesson that no one wanted what he had to offer. That who he was and what he cared about was simply something they had to put up with. He was a fool, a nuisance, a burden... and then even Penelope cut him off. So he came back this season wearing a mask. He's trying to be the man society expects him to be... a rake like his brothers. But it fits him like a cheap suit because it's not really who he is, or who he wants to be. And all the outward admiration and approval only twists the knife, deepening his emptiness and loneliness, which Eloise also calls out at 15:19. You can see it even in this episode, when he's at the club with his brothers and Anthony congratulates him on his many new admirers (16:41). Rather than being smug about it, Colin seems depressed and wonders why that should even cheer him. It's simply further proof that who he is wasn't good enough, since everyone (in the ton, not the audience) seems to prefer the mask. It makes me sad because everyone watching the show is (understandably) gagging and hating on him for this new persona, but all I see is a broken man who is putting on an act because he doesn't think he is worthy of love as he is. Also, I'm in the minority on this, but I don't think Colin was insulting Pen with that comment at the end of season 2. I won't write out all my reasons now, because there are *_A LOT_* and it would be loooooong. But I will just say this: everyone assumes that he was saying that she was undesirable, that he would never court someone like her. But he didn't actually say that, and it doesn't line up with his character or anything we see from him before or after. The truth is, he never considered her as a romantic prospect because he had her in the friend/little sister category. He would never dream of courting her in the same way he would never dream of courting Eloise or Francesca. Not because she's unattractive or undesirable, but simply because he doesn't have her in that category at all. Of course, it makes perfect sense that Penelope (and the audience) would take it in the most hurtful way. That's just human nature. We saw her doing that twice this very episode, at the Danbury ball. Colin complimented her dress and she assumed he was mocking her. When he wanted to find somewhere private to talk, she assumed he was embarrassed to be seen with her, despite the fact that he had just ditched those men mid-conversation to chase her out of a ballroom, and approached her in broad daylight at the garden party earlier. He is clearly not ashamed to be seen with her. But in her hurt, embarrassment, and anger, she jumps right to the worst, most painful conclusion, because that's what people do. And we jump with her, because she's our POV character. Which is exactly what happened at the end of season 2.

They replied to me in an earlier Bridgerton episode comment that they already finished season 3 without watching the Queen's mini-series. But they know everyone has been telling them to watch it, didn't know before they finished this 3rd season - and regret that. I'm sure they'll get to it though; its soooo much added context to the queen's behaviors that can make her seem like a cold insufferable noble bitch, when in fact she's been through SO much, she has a good heart. It also explains how she uses courtly life as a way to relive her trauma & distract from her complicated marriage life/take attention away from the king's illness to not have the common people see him as inadequate etc.

While not the whole reason, part of the reason some of the actors (especially the extras) look a lil bundled up, like Mandy mentioned, is because Eloise's actress broke her arm partway through filming the series. They had to improvise a way to hide her modern arm cast, and came up with the muff idea. To ensure Eloise's bundled arms didn't stand out too much, they made a bunch of muffs for other side & background characters too & had more of them than usual wear long sleeves in certain scenes. Also, Bridgerton definitely isn't period-accurate with their costuming, but long sleeves were the default outfit for most high-society women (regardless of weather), for modesty and anti-tanning reasons. They almost always wore bonnets outside, too. The short sleeved dresses were really only worn at formal balls and dinners. So yeah, there usually was a lot of handheld fans flapping around in this time period lol. And, just cuz Jamaal mentioned it, the 5 English ranks of nobility are in this order: Duke > Marquess > Earl/Count > Viscount > Baron. So Anthony, as Viscount Bridgerton, outranks the Mondrich's son Nicholas (Baron of Kent). And Simon, as the Duke of Hastings, outranks them both. Pretty much only the royal family outranks a Duke. The "Lord Featherington" title is also a Baron rank.

25:14 Alright. this will live as one of my all-time greatest contentions about this season. Call dear Cressie's sleeves dramatic? Fine! But UGLY?? 👀😵💫😇🧐 NO. I will live MY LIFE standing on the fact that Cressida sleeves are one of the MAIN attractions of the season.

They’d use fans even if it was cooler because it’s part of flirting. There’s a whole language to it. Look it up. It’s fascinating.

You guys skipped Queen Charlotte! That was the next one. I hope you make time for it in the reaction as it is the best one apart from season 1 or maybe even better. It’s how the black people of the ton came to be with titles! And it’s a very good series!! You guys can’t skip it!

The biggest mistake any actor can make is running away from a part in a very successful show out of fear of "type-casting". Did *nobody* tell that idiot that most actors that do that dumb sh*t end up not being hired by anyone at all?
