Team Kate forever. Let me get this straight, Anthony and Siena were in a relationship based solely on sex and lust. At some point of season 1 I was totally annoyed at their scenes together, pure raunchiness and sexual appetite, that’s all. Now Kate is vey very different, that is the love of his entire life. You can feel how much they adore, love and cherish each other. The first time they make love in the garden it’s the FIRST time in Anthony’s life that he made love to someone else, the first time passion was a cosequence of deep love and connection. #Kathony forever ❤

Because they were sneaking around. They could not be seen in public because Sienna is lower class than him and his families reputation would be at stake. It also is a representation of the stark differences in the two worlds that they come from. You can see that everytime Penelope or Eloise went into town. Town was dreary, grey, darker. They stood out when they went there. Where they lived was bright, lots of greenery.

With Kate, Anthony is able to love, laugh, play, dance in the light. Anthony can kiss his lady, his bride in front of his family. He has nothing to hide or feel shame. Notice with Siena, they always make love in a room similar to the ones he visits when he visits prostitutes. Sex with Siena, she gets on her knees for him, but with Kate he gets on his knees for her and her pleasure came first. With Kate, he loves her out in nature, it's natural, out in the open.

I disagree. He was devastated when Sienna ended it, so much so that he swore off love. What many of you are calling lust could simply have been passion. In that time period it was frowned upon to marry someone not in the same social circles which is the reason he kept his relationship with Sienna a secret. If he just wanted sex he could’ve just visited brothels like you saw him do at the beginning of this season. The only reason everyone is saying it was love at first sight with Kate is because you have been conditioned to think that, like actually read the books or been told by people in the comments who read the books, or read the synopsis of the season. He was challenged by Kate, and became obsessed by that challenge. I wouldn’t say love at first sight, intrigued definitely. I wouldn’t even say that all of their encounters, glances or stares were unbridled passion. There was attraction on both parts because they saw the opposite sex version of themselves which they found challenging and charming, then they fell in love from there.

​@alb5801 I didn't watch season 1, so I can not comment on Anthony and Sienna's coupling. Sex and passion are not love. It's a physical response born out of lust. Anthony himself told Kate in s2 that he fell in love with her the first time they met riding at dawn in the park. And yes, he meets her after riding home from a brothel. From my understanding the books and show are very different. Anthony starts to feel the weight of his title and obligations. It's not to say he felt nothing for Sienna, but she appeared to be not the woman who holds his heart completely.

Anthony at his core is someone who never got over his father’s death and strived to ensure each member of his family were well taken cared of. As a result, he locked himself into a sort of prison where he knew no happiness. Siena was like a good drink or drug. She allowed him momentary escape. Kate, however, freed him. She made him confront the things that kept him in that prison, accept them, and learn that it’s ok to smile again and to put yourself first at times. She did this because she herself was in a similar prison of her own creating. He was the key to freeing her because he did for her what she did for him. They understood each other on a deeper level that Siena could never understand Anthony on.

I think the difference between the two is not just the passion, obsession, or even scandal (because all of these are present regardless of the woman Antony chose). Kate stands apart because she disagrees with him OFTEN and makes him confront all that he tries to hide from society. She also shares his desire to protect his family and his desire to uphold the duty which is expected of him. Unfortunately, Siena doesn't have these same talents. I think her way of handling things is understandable given her position and her lack of family. I don't hate Siena, I just dislike her for Antony. Daphne and her mother were right when they said, "I always thought Antony to be with someone more like him...someone sharp, quick, a little too exacting." These qualities describe Kate NOT Sienna, especially in regards to Antony. Also, Antony may have been passionate and even shared things about his family with Sienna, like the watch, but it is Kate that gets him to laugh and be playful. A quality, according to his mother, was pushed away after seeing his father die.

This is such a sharp assessment of the characters here. I also note that in both instances, Anthony is confronted with the same situation: he has fallen in love with an inappropriate woman for his stature. And that’s *before* he even begins to court Miss Edwina because - ironically - Kathani Sharma is not titled. She isn’t even landed. Her stepmother is a disowned countess… but her father was a clerk and her mother was presumably a housewife. She is neither Lady (titled) or Miss (landed, or daughter of a Lady). She’s *just* Kate Sharma, just as Sienna is *just* Sienna Rosso. The difference is that when faced with that distinction, Sienna bows out (and rightfully so; she’d have been eaten alive by the Ton). Kate, though sheer perseverance and pug-stubbornness, manages to chew her way through them instead. (That said, Sienna made the correct decision for herself, because in the next scene from his “come with me they’d never say a word-“ “to you, my Lord” line, two of the Mamas are talking shit about Lord Thisthat-Theother “flaunting his mistress.)

I absolutely noticed this and have defended this point on Kanthony videos on Instagram. Especially when he mentions the point about both parents- it's obviously Kate he's defending, as she sadly lost both her parents and their questioning Kate's character whilst disparaging her deceased parents. I felt so sorry for Kate in this scene. He also doesn't want his love to get attacked anymore by Lady Mary's horrible parents. I loved Anthony so much in this scene...even at the start he notices how they don't welcome Kate properly and he looks angry about it. It was absolutely necessary to have that line about Edwina being blind, because after this point she still didn't get it....and she thought herself in love with him and I was so annoyed with Edwina!

I don't think it was just that Siena and Anthony had lust whereas Kate and Anthony had love, but that Kate was the only person Anthony could love. In season 2 he tells his mother that he never wants to love someone as much as she did with his father that when he would lose them, or they lose him, that it would cause them such grief. Siena was an easy choice. He didn't care about his duty as much because Daphne had married well, and Siena certainly satisfied him in a sexual way. However, he did not feel that emotional connection with her that would cause him the kind of loss and grief we see a glimpse of when Kate is hurt. He still did experience some sense of loss with Siena, and that is why I believe he shut himself off completely in season 2, so that he may find a wife to fulfill their duties as viscountess, that did not have the capability to hurt him in any way.

There is a scene somewhere in season 1 where it’s Siena and Madame Delacroix and Siena is saying something along the lines how she wants a man that doesn’t have to always leave when his sister or family need him etc which I think establishes well that Siena is essentially not meant for Anthony as taking care of his family is a huge part of his duty in life. I have just rewatched s1 because I couldn't really remember Siena that well apart from the last scene with Anthony where she dismisses him and i was surprised to see they actually don't have that many scenes together - I think maybe 6 or 7? I dunno but for some reason I thought they had more and i think there was about 2 episodes when she wasn't in it at all. Anyway the thing I noticed most about their scenes was how rushed all their interactions are, the sex is rushed, he's always checking the time, its not soft or gentle its hurried and over in a flash lol. I know that he had to get back to his family so he couldn't stay long, his family were his priority but I think the writers did this on purpose. Siena was a release from the pressure he felt from his family, she was a distraction that couldn't lead anywhere as he knew they had no future. I think he did love her at the time (as much as he could considering he was so closed off and had not dealt with his past trauma), he was willing to sacrifice his family reputation after all to be with her (I wonder if he would've regretted that though if it had ever happened? I have a feeling he would've done considering how much he loves his family) but if you compare the way he was with her to how he was with Kate, its a huge difference. The way he looks at Kate with passion, intensity, desire but he uses restraint as he respects her (and is a GENTLEMAN lol), also their sex scene (Kanthony's) while yes fulled with lust, and desire its clear its also filled with a deep love Its all about her pleasure and not about his - I loved that as Anthony was so very selfish in the first season, he took what he wanted without caring about others. His proposal speech was perfect to show his character development in s2, when he told her he loved her but she didn't need to say it back - A star for writing because it was perfect in showing how much he has grown. I think the writers actually did a good job at showing his different feelings towards both women and I think they did it on purpose as they knew Kate was coming in s2 (I also noticed a few hints they dropped in s1 that I never noticed back when I first watched it) so they set it up perfectly. Thats just my two cents anyway, I think everyone perceives things differently due to our own perceptions and life experiences so what is omg love to one person is not to another you know? I’ve heard some say that his scenes with Sienna were more passionate, sexier and natural, and that he looked more “into it” than with Kate but I respectfully disagree. That was, I believe, done on purpose to show the contrast of how differently he feels about each woman and what they represent and mean to him. Sienna was a way for him to channel his lust, a physical outlet to vent his frustrations in life without holding back, whereas Kate is his salvation, someone so deeply precious to him, someone who completes him in every way. The way he touches her so tenderly, reveres and worships her, focusing only on her pleasure and looks at her lovingly when he makes love to her, shows that. Kate is his soulmate. That’s why I think they portrayed their respective scenes so differently and they really did a great job doing so!

I think Siena and Anthony had genuine feelings for each other. She was led to live a “morally questionable” life due to social disadvantage; she was a victim in that sense. She wanted love and protection from Anthony, but he could not do that without failing his responsibility as head of his family and viscount. Siena’s error, in my opinion, was that she wanted to be loved “as she was”, not willing to change for him, yet expected him to sacrifice. She was too focused on her loneliness and unfortunate circumstances to truly see Anthony. Kate, on the other hand, was somewhat of a soulmate and shared Anthony’s sense of sacrifice for their loved ones. In Kate he could find passion, as well as understanding and disinterested love. I don’t think that Kate’s “well brought up” circumstances influenced Anthony’s love for her, as he showed he can love beyond social bias. Instead, it was Kate’s essence, her intellectual independence and loyalty that made him love her so intensely.

I agree with your point but it's also important to remember that Kate, too, came from a lower station and social class. Kate's father was a lowly clerk and we don't really know much about her birth mother but it's safe to assume she also didn't come from status either. Lady Mary was disowned by her parents & shunned by the ton due to her marrying a man who not only was considered 'beneath' her but who also had a child from a previous marriage, which we know to be Kate. So while I understand your point, Kate and Siena are essentially the same in terms of social class and status. Even the Sheffields didn't consider Kate to be their granddaughter because Lady Mary didn't birth her. The only difference is that Kate didn't have to resort to the same means that Siena did in order to survive. Kate still had a support system.

Also, as you very well stated, she had a support system. Her father was not rich, but was a tradesperson; they even lived in a palace, as the mother said in one episode. Kate had access to learn arts, literature, and sports such as shooting and horseback riding. While the Sharma's had no financial riches, they were influenced by the privileges around them and even enjoyed some of them. This might be indicative of significant social gaps between Kate and Siena. We know little about Siena, but the typical social situations that lead a woman to live a life such as her, are definitely distant from Kate's background. He was losing control over everything, and he was seeing her slip away before he could even fulfil his desires. Even after they had sex, Kate, unlike Sienna, went off leaving him wanting more. She was far more difficult and Anthony was just drawn to her like a moth to a flame. The main difference between Sienna and Kate was that Sienna, even though she loved Anthony, she was selfish. He knew she would find her happiness with or without him. He had nothing to worry. But Kate was selfless. She was independent but he knew she never acted upon her feelings or desires. Which is why he was sure she would live a sad life, while her sister was beautiful and could easily find any good man she wanted. He was worried that Kate would be alone and would never find any joy, and even when she did, he knew she would never really take it, which was all the more aggravating for him. She was similar to him in many ways and he understood her. It was easy for a man to have affairs, but for women it wasn't. And he knew Kate will never ever cross her line. He wanted her to be truly happy, which is why we know he was in love.

While I'm obsessed with Kate and Anthony's chemistry and story, when I thought about it later, I realized that they didn't really talk or open up to each other about their respective selves, they didn't bond before falling in love, and Kate for instance, didn't express in anyway her feelings for Anthony, but still... there's something about those stares, silent moments and intense hate they display for each other. Despite not having any deep conversations, their connection seems deep and Anthony loves her so deeply - it could've looked superficial to fall in love based on stares and glances, but they managed to not make it superficial. Kate is the only woman in his life that he truly loved, admired and respected. Anthony's admiration for Kate is beyond and above what he feels even for his sisters and mother. That's where I said it all, so there is no comparison. But, since its about this two women I will compare. Sienna and Kate both were very independent woman, they both wanted to find their way into the world. However, there is a slight difference, Sienna would always depend upon a man to provide for what she aspired where as Kate would not, she could be an excellent governess or lady's companion of those times. Sienna and Anthony's relationship was driven by their needs for each other. Anthony provided for Sienna in exchange of sexual favours, though there was a bit of affection but not much. Sienna gave him respite from the heavy duties he shouldered since a young age in exchange she was provided with luxuries. However, it was very different with Kate. He truly fell for her the first time he lost the horse race to this woman. It was just the beginning. He would go to any lengths for her validation (it was not always about Edwina). He was used to giving ratings to women based on their accomplishments or absence of it. He was enraged, startled and confused the first time Kate called his character as deficient as his horsemanship. Edwina would make a fine wife to him. But, with Kate he became a better person because she always challenged him to become one. Kate wouldn't accept a man who offered her marriage for a night spent together. She has to be honoured with a confession of love, very much unlike the woman of those times

It’s true that Anthony was indeed very passionate with Sienna being utterly macho and possessive, masculine and full of testosterone depicted in the way he was so forceful and aggressive when having sex with her, manhandling her every which way to take his pleasure. I think he did care for her in the way that being eldest and always having taken care of his family as Viscount he felt obligated to care for someone he was bedding, he felt it was his duty as a gentleman to provide for a mistress. But when it came time to choose between her or his family, clearly he did not hesitate to put his family above all else. Sienna for her part probably did love him but because she’s in a harsh society that looks down on women like her, she had to choose herself because she knows ultimately no one would stand up for her or protect her if she lost everything so she could never sacrifice that for Anthony. On the other hand, I feel that if Kate were in a similar lower class position and circumstance, her sense of selfless duty would still make her prioritise those she loves above herself so I believe she would have sacrificed her happiness for Anthony even if she were in Sienna’s situation. That’s just my thought from how I’ve come to know her character. I think that’s the main difference here between the two ladies. Kate values her family especially her sister’s happiness above her own but powerless when it comes to Anthony which just goes to show how much she must love the man without even realising. BUT. Anthony with Kate? With Kate, he was utterly besotted… He showed vulnerability and weaknesses to Kate that he wouldn’t dare show anyone, certainly not any woman, much less a lady, he made a fool of himself time and again, giving into her taunts and his anger, taunting her in return and bantering. Kate always bested him somehow and he let himself be uncool and humiliated yet still came back at her feet begging her attention! Not because he wanted to but because he couldn’t even help it. He was a mess, an angry kicked puppy always following her around and just being COMPLETELY UNABLE to stay away from her no matter how wrong he felt it was, for example, when his mind was telling him the right choice was Edwina because it was duty to his family, clearly his heart and body disagreed as he could not keep his eyes away from Kate. Also, I feel that if for whatever reason his family had objected to Kate, unlike what he did with Sienna and just throwing her under the bus and then feeling guilty but ultimately moving on, he would fight his family for Kate, he would make them accept her somehow maybe even forcefully. I feel this because even when his family was almost in ruins, he still could not help thinking about NOTHING but Kate, breathing for her, saying so himself. If that’s not the ultimate proof that for a man like Anthony who has basically devoted his entire life to his family and working only to make them happy and well provided for, for that man to say such a thing, to not even care that their reputation was gone because he can’t get Kate out of his mind, I don’t know what is! And saying he’d humble himself before her is the ultimate confession of a man deeply in love. Not just one who loves for passion but one who lives and wants to live for the woman he loves and put her above all else. And like you said, his “honour is hanging by a thread”! In season 1 Siena left him and with her it was not love.With Kate ,Anthony had was pure love ❤️Kate was unique and challenging for him because both never accepted defeat,they were similar in every aspect,both were responsible person and main thing is they both understood and respected each other and loved each other so much they were in the point wherein as a eldest in the house and for responsibility and love for their family, they were ready to sacrifice their love.

I don't think Anthony and Siena loved each other. When he breaks up with her for the first time, she doesn't even care much about it. Makes fun of him to the modiste. What Siena wants is to be financially safe. Anthony was sort of a friend with whom she had a great time in bed. And he provided for her. When they break up she seeks for other men. Every time they meet, they never talk. They just have sex. She suffers bit when she breaks up with him, but because she was used to him, he was good to her and they had fun in bed. Not because she loved him. And not only society wouldn't accept Siena, but Siena herself wants to live differently. She wants to live traveling with the opera group. Not to seattle. With Kate, things are different. Anthony and Kate discuss with each other, talk about they worries and responsabilities, respect the responsabilities, make fun of each other, have fun together in more than one way and so much more. They admire one another, have many similarities and fall in love with each other.

His happiness at the end says absolutely everything ❤️. I’m not sure if he loved Siena or not, he might have done but she also represented an escape from his responsibility’s, a refuge from all he was running from. He repressed his feelings after what happened with his father and it was only when he fell for Kate did he truly open up. When he was with Siena he was also selfish and cruel, they did not bring out the best in each other. Whereas with Kate, he truly grew and dealt with his past trauma which did allow him to fall in love. It’s also tough to know what Anthony felt during season 1 as the character of Siena didn’t really exist in the book and the one she was based off was just a fling, Anthony in the books was never in love with anyone besides Kate and the whole drama of Kanthony in the books was because he never allowed himself to love due to his fathers death so if we’re sticking by book!Anthony well he only ever loved Kate. Show!Anthony? I guess it’s just your own perspective on things, one thing I do know is that his love for Kate overshadows anything he get for Siena. And that’s no dig at Siena just a fact of his character.

I look at it that in Season 1, Anthony (not really knowing it at the time), was sowing his wild oats. Back then, as is today in some royal and high societies, it was taught and even encouraged, for a man to have as many sexual experiences as possible, before he makes the serious decision to look for a wife. Anthony just didn’t realize at the time that both him and Siena were just two wild oats. Season 2 made it clear that he was serious about finding himself a wife. And that’s where Kate comes in.

It's pretty simple y'all. I never rewatched season 1 more than once until season 2 dropped (and that was to extend Anthony's story with Kate....couldn't have cared less for him and Sienna.) I have rewatched season 2 a gazillion times now because that's how much I love and I am obsessed with Kanthony. Kanthony has ruined me in the romance department. I read the book after watching the season just to extend Kanthony. I think CVD and J Quinn have put like the best romance stuff into Kanthony...for example there's a lot of Darcy and Elizabeth (Pride and Prejudice) in Kanthony, especially with the Prejudice Kate feels for Anthony after overhearing what he said about not marrying for love and his rakish ways (reminds me of Darcy's line, "she's perfectly tolerable, but not tolerable enough to tempt me", which Elizabeth overhears). So, there is no comparison. Kanthony even surpassed Daphne and Simon for me, whose season I only watched once when it dropped...

Contrary to the popular beliefs here , I do think Anthony loved Sienna. It was not mere lust or sex , he had deeper feelings for her. It makes him a much relatable and realistic character. It is possible to love different peoople throughout your life . We all have loved and lost , then loved again. With experience comes wisdom and a better understanding of people's character. Kate was a perfect match for Anthony , in every way. Anthony was more mature , responsable and comitted when he met her. She was the perfect person at the right time. I totally agree with this. I think people get caught up in Kate and Anthony’s amazing love story and overall relationship,that they fail to realize his love for Sienna. I think he was definitely more immature in season 1, and they had a lot of hurdles in their way comapared to Him and Kate. Sienna was of lower class so they couldn’t be seen together and I’m sure he also didn’t want to be in love as well just like in season 2 because of his father. Which may have made him very cold and break his promises to her because of his duty to his family. The timing was also off for them. Ultimately his love for Kate was bigger because he was ready, more mature, was able to interact with her more freely, and had things in common. She was also a challenge for him.

There's no comparison, with Siena it was just lust and sexual appetite and you can see that when he talks to Colin after his wedding announcement, Anthony says "I should have taken you more in brothels if that's just a necessity to shove your ***" we know what he meant right, finally in this dialogue he suggests that the only feeling Anthony knew was Horny, sexual desire that was exactly what he felt for Siena, so much so that when she left he didn't miss her, but with Kate...Anthony lost his breath just in her presence, he was obsessed with her and her perfume and the way he defended her from her grandparents at that dinner showed not only how passionate he was was but also how he admired her as a woman, Anthony wasn't romantic and even less poetic but in Kate's presence he managed to be the most romantic and poetic man I've ever seen, not to mention how worried he was about the accident and relieved at the to know that she had woken up, he even cried that month The moment and the scene moved everyone, so there's no comparison, Siena was the woman he needed to stick his dick in as he said to Colin and Kate was the love of his life! ❤

He was with Siena because she was only there to satisfy him that's why he was seeing her also season 1 Anthony was kinda of frustrated from his duties so he was seeking her for his own pleasure .he was with her without knowing that there is kate exists. Once kate came along it was love at first sight as he mentioned he loved her from the moment they raced each other . Anthony was able to live his life even after Siena and was going to marry, but once Kate entered he was not able to live without her or he cannot imagine his life without her. He said to her he has not met anyone like her in his life which implies how special she was to him . She was able to make Anthony go crazy and obsessed for her even without actually kissing or sleeping with him before ep 6. This all explains how much he had fallen for kate with knowing that there is Siena who exists in the world. This is called true love which he realized and also confessed to her that how much he loves her . He was ready to throw his pride and become humble for her . So yeah this concludes Anthony's true and epic love was , is and will always be 'KATE SHARMA' !.
