Book reader here! I must say, this season has more ripped from the pages dialogue then the previous 2. I was so shocked because I really love the book and was surprised how faithful they were to it. As for this episode: 1). In the book, Eloise is actually the last person in the entire ton to find out Penelope is LW and was happy for here, so this twist with her being the first to find out makes it interesting on where they’re gonna go with it 2). When Penelope & Colin were in the market and he was telling the story of how they met, that was actually the prologue of their book and was written from Penelope’s POV. Colin didn’t even remember it. So him remembering it in the show, let’s us know how much he paid attention to her 3). Colin didn’t go to Paris, he went to Cyprus and his journals were mostly focused on travel and the scenery of where’s he’s been vs the women he’s been with lol. Also, everything from when Penelope started reading his journals to Colin’s hand cut was straight from the book. 4). Lady Danbury and Penelope are really close in the book. Sad we haven’t seen that yet 5). Cressida literally the worst person in Romancing Mr. Bridgerton 💀 so this friendship with Eloise is NEW 6). Besides the location, everything about Colin and Penelope’s first kiss was ripped directly from the book, not a single change. However, in the book, Penelope was 28 (well into spinsterhood), so she asks for the kiss for the same reasons but it was just a regular old day, nothing dramatic behind it. She just wanted to be kissed. For Colin, in the chapters leading up to the kiss, we see where he was developing feelings for Pen but didn’t know exactly why he kept thinking about her beyond just being friends until they kissed and then everything clicked. So from that day forward his POV was just him constantly thinking about her. Damn, this was long 😭 but I think that’s all the book details for this episode. Great reaction ❤️

Fellow book reader, this is a great comment breakdown. You mentioned the Lady Danbury and Penelope connection, and that's the one I miss the most, but I'm holding out hope! I've noticed it's Lady Danbury always talking to Queen Charlotte about Whistledown, so I'm wondering if Danbury has been secretly looking out for Penelope because she thinks the queen seems energized by an adversary.

@@piracychic I wonder if they substituted that friendship for her scenes with Francesca and Madame Delacroix. I'd love for Pen to come up to Danbury for help or for Danbury to reach out to her to protect her. I think the queen noticing Penelope at the party is a sign that she'll find out or be close to finding out who LW is.

I think people are so used to Pen and Colin's platonic relationship so it's not a big deal if they're unchaperoned AND the first kiss scene is the same in the book word for word!

I think people would care remember the scene in season 2 with the ruby scheme where Colin takes pen hand in the ballroom and takes her to the drawing room and closes the door she says we shouldn’t be here alone we could be compromised and when the mother comes in she says what is the meaning of this. Colin and pen don’t care especially Colin he always is breaking the rules when it comes to pen he is always in her personal space always standing close to her and in that time you wouldn’t touch a woman hands without gloves he is always doing that not signing her dance card he just grasp her goes he is also the only one until debling who she has danced with he always calls her by her nickname( only him and Eloise) except when he is mad at her he calls her Penelope and writing to a unmarried women is Also a big no but they wrote to each other Al the time

That first blue dress she wore to walk around with colin works for her figure, it's the best one I've seen. The only reason Pen didn't get married in my opinion is because she didn't put herself out there and wasn't confident. If you look closed off, people are not gonna approach you. Thank god for that whistledown money cause those dresses her mom was picking out were ugly. Maybe it's because she's the baby of the family that her mom was never really pressed to get her married, she still treats her like she's a child.

When the Queen leaves the ball to see Francesca, Eloise takes that as an opportunity to leave the room. The other debutantes standing around ask if anyone has any good gossip, Cressida says: "I cant think of anything at the moment." and leaves, too. But there's another who knows a secret and the rest then flocks around her. Like, they made it a clear point that Cressida not just didn't tell nit actively chose to not do it.

...except LW read you like a book, Colin, you just salty cuz you were perceived. In the book, Penelope viewed her conduct when they met differently than how show-Colin's describing. Pretty sure she was near tears afraid he'd yell at her for dirtying his clothes. She didn't say much of anything before Portia and Violet[?] show up and they part ways.
