I was raised Baptist at home and Pentecostal at school. 3 generations of my grandads family were Lutheran pastors from wales. It’s interesting to see how some Christians take it as his literal birthday, and how some just use the day as a representation. In reality there’s no way of knowing an exact date from that long ago, it’s more of a ceremonial day for some denominations.

Yeah I was raised Christian, I live in a very Christian household (not by choice for me) and they believed totally their whole lives Jesus’s birthday was Christmas, I told them that it’s not in the Bible and his birthday was probably actually in the spring/summer time if you go by the fruit in the Bible that they reference during that time…they’d get angry at me even though they couldn’t find ANY scripture proving me wrong, then they watched a Facebook video about it and now believe it…

I used to think there was no way to know from the Bible when Jesus was born, but turns out there is. If you watch Messiah 2030 part 3, from 9: 50 to 22: 43, it gives a detailed explaination of how to do that. Long of the short of it is, Jesus was likely born on the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles in 5 B.C. This is according to the ancient Jewish calendar, so it would have been the 7th month and 15th day of their lunar calendar. I tried to find a date calculator for Hebrew lunar calendars to a Gregorian calendar, and I came up with September 14, 5 B.C.

The pine tree was used to explain Christianity to pagan germans. That the evergreen tree has life always while all others have their leaves die in the winter. The pagan stuff is sort of used as secular things now, as aa way of celebrating the Christian Holidays without getting specific enough to violate the expectation you aren't forcing your religion on others. It's seen as a fun game to follow the pagan stuff, not believe in it.

The Christmas tree may have somewhat pre-Christian pagan origins, but it's also practical because, together with holly, it is a plant that flourishes in the winter (and it also has a nice scent when wet through rain or snow- or for that matter when the pine needles are burning in a fireplace). The main users of it originally, aside from the Scandinavians, were the Germans, specifically, at one time, Lutheran or Protestant Germans, whereas households in majority-Catholic Bavaria used it more rarely. It was introduced to England either by Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz on her marriage to George III or Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg on his marriage to Queen Victoria. Then English and German-descended people carried their own Christmas traditions across the Atlantic and so made the Christmas tree more universal. It is not an object of worship; just another form of decoration in the background when opening presents.

In scandinavia we dont say christmas, we say jul. The old pagan name for it. The spruce tree has been used here as a symbol for eternal, or long life, because its a tree that never ”dies and gets reborn” in winter. It stays green all year round. We have been celebrating jul here, with the spruce tree, for over 3000 years. Christianity adapted the holyday for their purposes in the 400’s
@RandomNonsense1985

We spell "Jul" as "Yule" in English (because we'd pronounce it as either "jewel" or "jull" with the Scandinavian spelling), and I'd bet most of my fellow Americans wouldn't even realize that Yule/Jul was originally a pagan holiday.

Love watching your reactions, guys! Though the origins of the Christmas tree go way back to pagan celebrations, the modern Christmas tree, as it looks today, with all the lights and decorations began in Germany, in the Middle Ages and was brought to America in the 19th century - Christmas, for Christians, is a deeply religious holiday - second only to Easter. It celebrates the birth of Jesus - even the name “Christ” is part of the word Christmas. It is celebrated by being with family, attending church services on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, exchanging gifts (which is a nod to the 3 Kings who brought gifts to the newborn Jesus); non-believers celebrate at well, in their own way - whether its the celebration of winter solstice or however they see it - and its all good. It’s a wonderful time of year, when (hopefully) differences are put aside and everyone enjoys the joy, good cheer and beauty of the season.

This was a fun watch!!! I was waiting for it. So awesome you did this one. FYI - Donald Trump owned the Plaza Hotel at the time of filming and asked to have a cameo appearance in the movie. The movie makers put down a different carpet in the hotel lobby to make it easier for "Kevin" t slide on it. Donald actually liked the carpet and kept it after filming was done. But this isn't the only movie Donald has been in and its not the only one he's done with Macauley Culkin. Donald plays Mac's fa there in the family movie "Richie Rich." You van also see Donald make a small appearance in a few others as well. Can't wait for a new year of reactions! Now, even though it's after Christmas now, you can still enjoy one other movie this season that was on your poll: "It's a Wonderful Life." Remember, if you don't want to watch in its original black and white, there is a colorized version.

Christians have their own symbolisms with christmas trees and like my family participates in advent using an advent wreath which is a wreath with evergreen branches and 4 candles in the round wreath and with one in the middle. Each sunday leading up to Christmas we read Scripture and light a candle (first Sunday one is lit, second sunday 2 are lit and so on while the last is lit on Christmas day). There's a lot of symbolism with this too. The round shape of the wreath symbolizing how god is eternal with no beginning or end and the green evergreen is everlasting life. Purple candles symbolizing royalty as Jesus/god is the one true king, white candle in the center symbolizes purity of Jesus. Each candle has its own name which matches with the scriptures to be read that week (first is the "prophecy" candle symbolizing hope, second is "Bethlehem" candle representing peace, third week is the "Shepard's" candle symbolizing joy, and the 4th candle is the "angel" candle symbolizing love (the ultimate love that God has for mankind). Then the one we light on Christmas is the Christmas or Jesus candle which well speaks for itself I suppose. My family also opens small gifts after each candle lighting/Scripture reading such as cute pencils for school, cheap jewelry, bookmarks with Scripture or other things with Scripture on it, or candy. It's a nice time together as family to read Scripture together, lighting the candles and praying afterwards which I always look forward to each year. And helps keep your mind more towards God than getting too lost in the secular holiday activities. Christmas trees also have similar christian meanings put to it but there are also those who ban them all together due to other origins. (And good to note just in case, Christians dont pray towards or bow to any of those christmas symbols like the tree). And then those who aren't Christian celebrate it all without any meaning to it besides decorations 😅

Great reaction as usual. Home Alone is a funny franchise. For Christians the putting up of the Tree at Christmas actually started from the Bible. The fir tree is green most of the year when other trees shed their leaves, so it represents God's eternity (symbolically of course). Hosea 14: 8 Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.

From what I know, Christmas was a pagan holiday that christians took over and turned into their own thing, but what the tree stands for isn't the same as when it was a pagan thing but what matters more to christians is the star atop the tree as it symbolizes the guiding star that led the three mages to jesus' birthplace (and there's usually a small nativity scene under the tree with jesus and mary and joseph, and I remember my dad covering up jesus until the 25th "because he wasn't born until then", he said).

Christmas actually does include a lot of pagan symbology, because as Christianity spread across Europe, and more Christians were born, who had no original relationship with Judaism, they found it easier to incorporate and appropriate the pagan belief systems and traditions, rather than trying to wipe them out. In Eastern Europe, the same was done with Krampus, a dark spirit that steals children, and became the dark shadow of Saint Nicholas. There is a KZbin channel from PBS called #Storied , and it has a series called #Monstrum . It has an episode about Krampus, as well as several other scary Christmas traditions from all over Europe. Now that I think about it, you guys should totally react to some of those episodes.

There's a interesting history about the Christmas Tree. Indeed it was a pagan ritual, and there was a man called Bonifacio (later a saint), who in the period of christianization of the slavic tribes (the vikings, in general sense) cut down a OAK consacreted to Thor where happened human sacrifices, and after it was cut down, after a while rose from it a small oak wich he viewed it as a symbol of God's will to renew man's life. So from this event it was resimbolized and incorpored to Christmas Day (many of festivities in christianity passed through some sort of "ressignification" to gather different customs). So the tree is the tree of life, tha balls are the fruits of grace and the star means Christ, but it's usually seen as the Guide Star from the Scriptures that guided The Magi. In add my opinion: in monotheist religions magic is consensualy forbiden, but the Magi that visited Jesus can be read as the natural use of Reason that man do and that leads to nowhere else than God.

You guys might consider reacting to the others in the series. The third movie is basically a reboot, focusing on a completely different family, but I thought it was funny. The fourth one goes back to the original family, but uses different actors, and isn’t as good. Four and five focus on completely different characters.

Kevins father reported his credit card stolen because if Kevin used it (which he did) and it gets reported stolen and where. Thats how they figured out where he was. Any other time, when you lose your credit card, you report it stolen and halt all activity from the card so strangers can find it and use it.

In NYC a child could find their way around. Especially one familiar with the city. The subway system makes it pretty easy. And the city in general is easy to get around since it’s a grid basically.

Yo bros, if your card gets lost or stolen you should always report it as missing or stolen so you aren't charged for any purchases that come up after that point. Or you're refunded. You don't want to try to fake report it stolen though and make a bunch of purchases. Big jail time for that fraud

I mean for all we know it could have been December 25th, but yeah agreed a lot of early Christian festivals and rituals were appropriated from Pagan religions.

In the 90’s trump was a darling of the mainstream media, they loved him. It was only when he ran as a republican that all the hate started in 2015. He had a hit show for 10 yrs,the apprentice. Didn’t need to buy into anything.

If those parents had any sense they'd realize that asshole Buzz was responsible for getting his kid bother killed twice. There is like a 6 year difference between the two and his sociopathic behaviour goes well beyond the normal antics between siblings and is far worse considering the age-gap.

We know about the tree.....some us choose to have it symbolize everlasting life (evergreen) and some things are just for fun...regardless of what people before us did....that is what Freedom In Christ really means...and we use the decorations that we hang on the tree to mean something to us, as individuals or as a family... For example....ones that have family photos on them, or ones that are of something someone like (cats, Korean writing, a chess piece, one that one bought on a trip, etc.) we also use the lights to symbolize Jesus Christ & Christians being a light to this evil/dark world..... sooooo, yes we know about the tree and it's pagan roots....but in Christ we can make things Holy and Righteous....that is part of why He hung on that cross.....to fix what evil has done...
