Hey everyone! I'm back yet again with another Bridgerton video post the release of part 1. I have lots to say and couldn't fit it all in here, but enough people were commenting asking for my opinions that I thought I'd go ahead and do an informal discussion of my initial first thoughts immediately after watching and main takeaways as of right now. There is much more to come, but comment down below your thoughts and opinions about Bridgerton season 3 part 1 so far!

I think what I was most disappointed by was that there was no flashbacks. Flashbacks to develop their friendship further, flashbacks to develop Colin further. We've always been told things about Colin yet not shown. He's 1 of Lady Bridgerton's most sensitive children & is always sacrificing his happiness..ok show an example, flashback. Imo, the use of flashback and how they creatively came back up in the present day(Simon & the letters to his father, Anthony & the bee) led to some of the best & most iconic scenes and since there aren't any flashbacks this season, I dunno it's just kinda lacking those creative romantic moments for me.

Yeah, they still felt like background characters for me. There wasn’t that main character feeling that we’ve gotten from the past two seasons. Or maybe Kate and Anthony just set the bar too high.

AGREE. I would have also liked to see Pen and Colin first becoming friends as a flashback instead of a conversation. It would have added to the story to see Pen and Colin interacting as children.

@@sushidashi6152I have to say, season 2 was my favourite for watch-abilty, had less overly sexy scenes minus the 2 torwards the end but it was necessary to the story and the slow gratification that we needed. The first season was overly sexual and seemed unnecessary in some parts. This season they definitely needed to slow down the intensity of Colin and Pen’s interactions. They should have had more close encounters of a passionate nature. Maybe Colin reading his saucy journal and thinking of Pen in place of the women he met on his travels. Pen maybe reluctantly throwing away notes she had about Colin that she thought weren’t necessary anymore as she was planning to marry Lord Debling.

I would have loved to see them as kids, when Penelope really fell for him, maybe she fell down and hurt herself, maybe he gave her his sweets when he saw her sisters were being mean to her, there was so much potential for flashbacks and how cute that would have been ❤

I think people don’t realize that this season is very different in structure for the main couple. In all seasons past, you were actually being introduced to the pairings. They needed a lot of time to set the premises of the couples for the story to work, a foundation to make the romancing plausible. Penelope and Colin are already a *very* established pairing. You know them well, we know the blockages, the drama, the rejection. It’s already given. They don’t need to build around them: we know what to expect. It’s all about creating momentum. And I think they did it pretty well. ❤
@evelina2619
@evelina2619 2 ай бұрын
I think the weight of the past seasons is overrated. Yes, it was established that Penelope liked Colin, and that the later does regard her as someone special even though he himself doesn't realise that. However most of the focus was on Pen, and therefore the change of heart from Colin feels underdeveloped and mostly sexual. And in comparison he barely feels like an established character. Also there are not enough moments where Colin looks at Pen differently because of who she is instead of the sexual attraction he feels. Compared to the book this part 1 lacked romantic tension (at least for me). There should be at least another lesson between the two and definitely more dialogue, to flash out their chemistry. There were some moments (like when they talk at the ball, or the laughter at the end of part 1), but too little, specially considering that they are no longer side characters and this season is supposed to flash out their relationship.

I would have preferred if they'd just built on the "friendship TO lovers" part though. I get that they already knew each other before hand so them getting together after a few eps doesn't matter, but they could've added an extra episode at least showing flashbacks of them as friends, so we get the feeling of them beign friends and then Colin discovering more, it didn't even feel like they were friends this season as it just got straight into the kissing and longing looks. I wanted to see the change in Colin but all we got was "oh she asked for a kiss, now he's realised she's not just a friend and suddenly he's obsessed with her" like sorry that's so unrealistic and easy. He should have seen her going on dates with multiple guys, feeling real jealousy instead of just "he's looking at Pen talk to someone from across the room again", he should have realised she no longer likes him and he took her for granted, and she should have made him work for her instead of just dropping her dress the second he said he liked her. You say they created momentum, where?

Can't agree! Like yes we know them but we don't nearly know who they are together as we knew the last pairings. They did need to stablish certain things for the love to feel earned. I hope that gets better on the second part tho. Still enjoyed Penelope tho she's my girl till the end!!! Colin is alright I guess...

@@evelina2619true but if you do pay attention to season 2, there has been hints of his somewhat interests. One where he was singing and there was a close up him kind of stopping when he saw Penelope. It's those little hints. In the book, I thought it was quick. The show in my opinion had a better lead up to him realizing he was in love with her the whole time. Sure, in the book, it was more them writing to each other while he was traveling that shows he actually was in love with her the whole time.

@@bib4eto656 oh yeah it was totally sad. Jonathan Bailey did that well in season 2.

Yeah i agree that he doesn't have a "falling in love" moment, he has an "OH!" moment. He already had a lot of appreciation and love for her, but it felt like he viewed her as a precious part of his life, she was already "his Pen", a concept of home and comfort and someone he talked to sometimes even more than family, she was always there and she wasn't a woman she was "Pen". You can see him already be jealous even before the kiss when she was talking to another suitor, and you can see him uncomfortable when he can't just go to her and talk to her whenever he wants and dance with her whenever he wants because of his new persona, because of his new role of helping her and because of Pen'd fight with Eloise, he just doesn't realize or know what to call those feeling. And then the rumor of him teaching her goes out, and they kiss, and he just goes "OH", i can have more, i can take a step closer to "Pen" there is more to have and more to know and more to want, but then she just says "thank you" and goes away and you can see that for the first time he can't just get as close as he wants to her, the next time they see each other they can't even talk freely because of the rumor, and now he can't talk to her freely, he can't dance with her and he can't kiss her again because it "didn't mean nothing", someone else might get to marry her and he might never be able to be as close as he was to her before or even closer as he wants to be now, so that's why he has such conflicting feeling. I think it was shown well but definitely you need to have all the previous context to see the signs, i wish we had more scenes in the middle to see those signs. I also think we'll see more of him being upset of not knowing all about Pen when he finds out about lady whistledown. I think than if he gets mad it'll be more about that than what lady whistledown said itself. Also excuse me if the comment was a mess, i was writing my thoughts down without planning them and English is not my first language.
@aley8890
@aley8890 2 ай бұрын
Omg your comment just made me realize something I completely missed. The fact that Colin and Penelope in the previous seasons as well as in the beginning of season 3 did not care much about what is considered “proper“ by society and the fact that they were always being so close to each other, for one becuase in Colin‘s mind Penelope is just “Pen“ so he doesn’t really think twice about how their interactions might be perceived by others, but also because they simply feel very comfortable with one another. But then we have this shift after Lady Whistledown writes about them and now all of a sudden the two of them have to be very careful and they are overly aware of the way society perceives them. They cannot simply rush off somewhere together or have a one on one conversation admits the crowd. They hide under the tree to speak in private, and in the tent Penelope tells Colin to act as though he is looking at the sweets to make things less obvious (btw she does this flawlessly, Colin on the other hand cannot seem to do anything other than stare at Penelope lol). So we have these scenes in which he has this inner conflict with himself because he wants to be closer to Penelope but he also needs to watch out, so as not to ruin her status and hopes for a good future any further. And then we have the last episode at the ball in which he physically cannot stop himself anymore and he literally does the unthinkable and interrupts Lord Debling and Penelope in the middle of their dance despite all the whispering of the people surrounding them. I LOVE IT!

Very well articulated. In the books it is also that "oh" moment as you call it and he doesn't truely realize he loves her until later in the book. He know he needed and wanted her but he wasn't sure he loved her yet. I think they are playing into that in the show as well. I think he knows but he's still putting all the pieces together or how he didn't see ot all of this time.

What I like most of Pen's charachter is that she is really one of us, with her flaws and insecurity, but also confident in her true being. She is opinionated and clever. She dreams of romance and at the same time she can be so self aware and practical. She owns responsability of her own future and takes action, not waiting for her mother or anyone else taking over her own future. She is so passionate and real, also in her being so genuinely interested in love and sex. She is the most modern and aware female charachter in the whole Bridgerton saga. And Colin? He is just a sweethearth and her perfect match ❤

One thing about Colin that stood out to me was how hidden he is as a person with almost everyone including his family, but with Pen he openly shares. Like in the gift giving scene Anthony and Benedict are amazed by how many cities and ask how many he went to and Colin just says too many he lost count or something like that but the next time he’s with Pen he’s clearly knows cus he’s like “I’ve been to 17 cities”. He does this type of thing all the time and I think it shows how comfortable he really is with her. But anyway I really really still hope they have a flashback to give Colin more backstory in the second half. Or at least more in depth conversations about himself with Pen

I find it immensely satisfying and telling that Colin's erotic dreams are all apparently starring Penelope. And that she is not changed in any obvious way (aside from being incredibly candid about her feelings with him). He doesn't morph her body into some other shape or size, nor does he have her behave in any way inconsistent with his lived experience of her. Just with the volume turned up to 11 and the filter off her smart mouth. He seriously loves her mouth. He makes the real memory of their kiss into a kind of dress rehearsal for the dream (by comparison). Which proves that he sees her and loves her for exactly who and what she really is and aspires for her to become exactly what she said she dreamed of being in the wedding cake scene - brave and witty and free. He makes himself part of her "purpose" as they described it then. Which means that his erotic fantasy includes her getting exactly what she wants and needs from him. Not so much him "saving" her, but more him supporting her in fulfilling her desires. Beautiful. Imagine being loved that way and seen that way by the object of your deepest, most desperate crush. Yeah, total romantic candy. Wish fulfillment dessert buffet for anyone who has ever burned with unrequited love. (Say, at least half the audience, don't you think?)

AS A POLIN SHIPPER, the subplots made me mad because they could have used those scenes for flashbacks, Colin’s character development. SHOW HIS SENSITIVE SIDE. There is still so much we don’t know about him as a character and I would love to see that depth, why is he sensitive, I also saw a comment in a different video when someone said they would like to see how their father’s death changed him, for me I think him being sensitive is on purpose because he knows Anthony can’t show that because he is eldest but his mother and sisters needs that emotional support. I would love to see that arc of him being explored more. Even violet says he’s the most sensitive, more for others and I would love to see instances of that with his siblings, maybe he also wanted to go to university but saw Benedict wanted it more, maybe he saw his mother crying someday and he comforted her. I NEED SENSITIVE COLIN

I suppose, if you think about it, aside from the fact that Colin and Penelope’s friendship to lovers has been a slow burn for 2 seasons, Colin proposed marriage to Marina, who he didn’t love, very quickly. Once he realised his feelings of friendship for Penelope were more romantic it made sense that he was so quick to act on them. It’s part of his character. Even in the book when he thought about marriage in the carriage he was like “why not?”
@elmow_

And the fact that she was about to get proposed to, he had to if he wanted to keep his woman! I felt conflicted about the proposal and how he publicly interrupted her dance with Debbling - could cause more scandal for her. But at the same time, ppl will probably respect her seeing two men wanting her at the same time! I was conflicted bc I felt like he had so many opportunities to court her in a more respectful way that would have minimized scrutiny from the ton. Like prime example, when Collin went to tell Pen his feeling then Debbling asked for Pen to dance - Pen looked at Collin, practically begging him to interject. But he didn’t. I feel like Collin still had feeling like he couldn’t court Pen like he would any other debutante - that may be a god thing or a bad thing. But the fact that they’re friends prevented him from putting his name on her dancing card, actually promenading with her with that explicit intent. But regardless, he’s definitely made it clear that he’s going to marry her now. I just hope part 2 he really continues to demonstrate his feelings to her - its so sad seeing her not believe she’s worthy of love and marriage. So i hope he does a lot of convincing

I think there were hints of him noticing her before the kiss. But he has always seen her. He does compliment her blowup emerald green dress right before she chews him out. However there is something in Season 2 that is mentioned for Anthony that is true for Colin as well. Daphne and Violet hit on that the Bridgetons need someoen who is more of a challenge for them and that scene where she adminishes him for what he said about not courting her is the first time she has challenged him and it also opens his eyes that his friend who he has never seen sexually is in the marriage mart and is looking to get married. So suddenly his constant unconditional friend is not there for him, and if she were to get married she may stop being there for him in the same way he has gotten used to and depends on. Plus he saw some fire in her, so he saw a side to her he has not seen before. So I love that he acknowledges that he values her and misses her and goes to apologize. And in the course of the season his feelings shift because hes seeing her in a new light and his new facade begins to fall away. Love the conflict in him. You see it every time he sees her after the kiss.

It's interesting how she's only ever shown adoration for him, and as much as he's pretending to be someone else to please others, with her he always had to just be himself. Once she shows him a new side, a side that is angry and disappointed, and leaves his side... he goes right after her to try to fix things and get her on his good side again lol. @@heyitsmira17 I think it's because she has never really expressed that part of her to him and that is why Lady Whistledown existed. My theory is in part 2, once he finds out, he asks her and maybe hopefully we get a flashback in the origin of Whistledown and Colin will start seeing the real her and her vulnerabilities and that is when he will start to realize he truly loves her. The book only explores a little bit of his love and wasn't sure about it until he confides in Daphne. I hope this realization is his love will come from his talk with his mom. I love Violet in this seasons. I love the exploration of her relationship with her third son and how she reveals that he the most sensitive, he is the one who most notices the little things and it is in these little things he notices and realizes that he has always loved Penelope. Initially, I thought Season 3 part 1 was a bit rushed but upon rewatching, I'm hooked....love it! I've been a Polin fan from season 1 & I believed that Collin was in love with Pen from the beginning (action speaks louder than words) but tried to fight his feelings for her due to societal norms and expectations. I also got confirmation about this from his confession in the carriage scene, where he told her that for a long time he was trying to feel less. Therefore, it was not the kiss that caused him to fall for her, their kiss only awaken and confirm those feelings of affection that he was trying to hide all along. I also think he was lost without Pen's usual reponse to his letters & that's why he returned home trying to fit in and emulate his brothers & friends, instead of being his true self. Some say there was no chemistry between Polin but I beg to differ, as their chemistry was present from season 1 up to season 3 thus far. Polin's first kiss and the carriage scenes were perfect (watched it over and over again...cant get enough lol).. The entire cast delivered and played there part very well....love it.

You’re perfectly within in your right to dislike a character, but I just don’t understand people saying that Luke Newton is a bad actor when he isn’t, I really think it’s just a case of poor writing, because some of the writing choices weren’t the best in my opinion. YES and thank you! Something not many people are talking about is how Colin returns at the beginning of the season after spending months away without any contact from Pen! His best friend, confidant, and the only person outside of his family with whom he has ever had real intimacy. OF COURSE he started feeling immensely lonely and lost while he was literally out to sea and came up with a coping mechanism that he thought would please society. He tries to do what all of the other single men and role models in his life have shown him that he should be doing. He takes it too far when he comes back probably because he is in denial about his feelings for Pen and fighting against himself. I don't think we needed to see him in an actual threesome, but I get it. I love how they showed in Ep 4 with the guys that he literally could not stand pretending to be like them anymore. I thought a scene with Anthony or Benedict about this would have been a good way for him to work through it as well. But overall I thought Luke did SUCH a good job of showing how completely unmoored he was after that kiss, and from then on he is like a moth to the flame with Pen, needing to be near her, and coming back to himself the more time they spent together. A++++ stuff

It also kind of goes to him wanting to please others and live up to expectations, putting himself after everyone else (particularly women). He cares more for their happiness than is usual in a man of his time and culture. He takes suggestions and lets others take the lead (even to respecting a working girl's expertise and guidance and her valuable time). He doesn't ask or expect or order her to perform for him. She suggests it and he goes along with it. If he had simply quit and left the brothel that soon, the girls likely would have been punished or suffered in some way. That he learned something useful that might be good for his actual love interest and his fated HEA is a nice bonus. A lot gets accomplished with this scene, even if a lot of people disapprove. That culture's morality and social rules were very different than ours. I try hard to remember that when I am tempted to judge. Besides, we know that Penelope watches everyone like a hawk and has been on the sidelines watching Colin's love life unfold like her own soap opera for years. It's really no stretch at all for Colin (sensitive intuitive soul that he is) to instinctively recognize that Pen may be into the visual stimulation as much as he is. Even though he is still having difficulty letting himself pursue her romantically at this point. Bet he works that part out in his journal. 😉

Also I haven’t seen the scene getting widely talked about yet in fandom reactions but I have a mighty need to mention Portia’s lecture to Penelope after the scandal of the Charm Lessons Scheme breaks in Whistledown, about Penelope’s prospects for marriage and even love. The way Portia sees the moment she went way too far with what was supposed to be a “reality check” (for her reality, at least,) and knows she cannot possibly recover from having just devastated her own child but half-flutters with the urge to try before she gives up with a tepid piece of consolation and a plastic smile and retreats. Their relationship is too far gone into toxicity but goddamn there’s still that parent-child desperation to do right by them even when you haven’t or don’t even know how to do right by them because you view the world and your selves in such fundamentally different ways that it can’t help but cause these clashes that break each other down, the child even more so than the parent because the parent has ostensibly always been the adult in their dynamic. Portia is reaping her bitter harvest and you can see it starting to choke her. Polly Walker, the way you pivot from the broad comedy of the Featherington Fertility Fuckfest Olympiad of 1815 to that kind of nerve-shredding NUANCE with Nicola! And Nicola barely says a word but she and Polly are ACTING their ASSES off opposite each other in that entire scene and my heart is meaty paste beneath their glittery heels.

I take the depictions of Colin’s man-whoring and bro-talk with the other guys as emphasizing that his travel was meant to be about self-discovery and personal growth, he thinks he knows himself better and is more authentic at the start of the season, but it’s the exact opposite, he’s putting up more of a façade than ever. Penelope comments on it in Whistledown, even Eloise at one point asks, “is this really the new you?” So when he’s in the carriage finally confessing everything to Penelope, he says that for so long he’s been trying to play this character that society expects him to be, but he’s finally being honest with himself and to her. I dunno, maybe that’s just me, and maybe because I’m a guy, but I found it extremely satisfying when they showed him losing patience for the bro-talk and feeling unfulfilled at the brothel, he finally realizes that he cares for someone as more than a hookup.

I felt the same about his diary writing where he describes the weird feeling of combination of intimacy and yet distance and loneliness. I feel it is his way to try to numb his desire for true love. I wanted Penelope to be more into Debling so that she'd have some angst when eventually acquiescing to Colin. But no, I had to learn more about the Mondrichs and Lady Danbury's brother. 😒

Agree with your sentiments esp that they needed more episodes. I do not mind the many plot points that they want to showcase but I think more episodes can give an ample time to flesh these plot points out. And the journal voice over is a genius idea that I hope we get to see on the next part given that they are writers and we get to hear Pen through LW. I need to know more what Colin thinks.

OMG I found a sis who analyzes everything in an absurd way like me, who reads fanfiction, who does thousands of rewatches and loops of the top scenes! That's exactly what I'm doing with Colin and Penelope, I've never felt anything like it, the two of them are absolutely the most beautiful thing I've seen. I have never reached emotional levels of this type. I've seen the scenes a thousand times and my thoughts are always with the two of them, I really don't know how to wait for June 13th, I'm serious. Honestly, it seems very obvious to me that Colin has obviously always loved Penelope, he simply couldn't see it at all: the kiss at the end of episode 2 was what was missing to make him fully understand the situation. We've seen him throughout the series, clearly happy to share every moment with Pen, constantly looking for her, considering her absolutely a very special person to him, the most important person. This third season is a whirlwind of infinite emotions, a wonderful carousel where I encountered sensations I had never experienced. I have been waiting for Colin and Penelope's story since the first episode, for me this is the most wonderful season ever, which can never be equaled by any other: it seems clear to me that theirs is the most important love story, because it has as a basis a development that all of us have always followed and also a state of deep friendship that they have always had (when they start laughing at the end of "everything" in the carriage scene was priceless). I seriously have no words. The most beautiful couple I have ever seen, the most beautiful love I have ever seen and an emotional state I have never felt. I'm very emotional as I write these words, so I hope the message I want to give gets across well. God is my witness, I have never seen anything more beautiful than what I encountered while watching this third season of Bridgerton. There is so much to say, really. The scenes that are present literally take my breath away. And obviously the kiss one occupies the very first places together with the carriage scene. Speaking of this scene here, I think it's masterful. Colin goes to visit his friend with the sweetness and concern that characterize him, moved by affection and not only, because it seems quite clear to me that he, with this kiss, had the further confirmation he needed, it was the last push that he needed to make him understand 100% what he felt for her: we saw in the previous episodes how much he was in love with her, from the looks, from the attention, from the reaction he had when she gave him that compliment about his eyes, from how he behaved when she wrapped his hand, closing it to hold hers, from the annoyed reaction he had when she told him about the pleasant conversation she had with that lord at the party. He goes to her to console her, emotionally exhausted. When she, without any more hope, asks him for that kiss he is astonished, he doesn't know what to say because he knows, deep down, that he wants it and is therefore dismayed. The scene that follows contains tenderness, complicity between very long-standing friends, mutual love, hers always aware of it and his just showing himself 100%. When their mouths touch initially there is a hallucinating sweetness, an inhuman delicacy, they look at each other because they realize how much the world has disappeared around them and how beautiful what is happening is. Then they continue and everything they feel explodes. She has the emotion of doing something that she has always wanted along with the pain of her that, while she is so happy for what is happening, she knows that this kiss will not lead her to have him in her life as she would like; he is dismayed by an enormous emotion and a completeness that he didn't know he had within himself: he feels that what he is doing is so right and fitting that he no longer understands anything. When she thanks him he is still stunned and, under the notes of music that masterfully represents what he has just completely realized, he thinks in amazement about what he felt and what he didn't expect to come out. All accompanied by music that is nothing short of perfect, which beautifully establishes a moment in which two people are experiencing something incredible that has finally arrived and that they both feel very much inside of them. Something we were all waiting for. Two friends who complement each other, who love each other very much: one has always known it, the other understands it well now feeling like he never did in his life. They know, as they kiss, that what is happening is so right and normal. For me, Bridgerton is them and always has been: I've been waiting for their season forever and I can't describe how it feels to see all this wonderful set of things in this third season. Sublime, wonderful. The highest emotional thing I will ever see and which will pass for Bridgerton: a friends-to-lovers story that represents the best love story, in which they are friends and they also love each other. I'm speechless. The carriage scene was something I never hoped I could see with my eyes. The chemistry, the passion, the pure love they expirenced is absolutely stunning. The utter desperation Colin feels when he enters the carriage, wanting to know immediately if Debling had asked Penelope to marry him. In those moments he is so full of emotion for her, he is so euphoric that he no longer understands anything: he interrupts her dance with Debling, runs like a madman to reach the carriage and with all his breath he makes that wonderful confession to her. Excited and overwhelmed by the fact that he understood that he had found the love of his life, and that this had always been before his eyes. I also loved when he, before continuing with the "finger thing", asks her for consent in that sweet, respectful and loving way. The whole scene is pure passion and sweetness, including when he fixes her dress and with that expression of a pure lover you understand that he decides to ask her to marry him, OMG, how wonderful. I also love how he decides not to use "two fingers" (ihihihihi) to tidy her up so as not to get her dirty...he has two thousand wonderful attentions for her. The proposal to go up to the house with her and the wedding proposal to follow are a pure dream... I seriously have no words, and not metaphorically speaking, but literally. Never felt emotions like this.

ALSO loneliness is a common theme. Explicitly stated when Collin told Eloise that he doesn’t share his secrets and she said that must be lonely. To after the kiss, almost everytime Collin is watching Pen with Debbling where he is seemingly rejected - he stands alone. Their dance scene comes to mind. Then when he lays in bed after listening to his friends objectify women. Pen of course, losing her best friends Collin and Eloise in one day in s2 finale. Her sisters being married, leaving her alone. In the start of s2, she is completely alone. This loneliness is def a catalyst to their relationship this season

It's funny, I know a lot of people love and relate to Pen but I actually relate so much to Colin. I was a sensitive kid who was very aware of others feelings but it often got me teased and I got good at hiding myself away. So when I discovered how to "play to the crowd" like Colin does, it was pretty intoxicating. It was nice being perceived well. It was nice to be liked (something Colin muses on in the books) but it often means not being yourself. I think his "oh" moment with Pen is that he's always been able to be himself with her, and she likes him all the same. He doesn't have to play the crowd with her to be appreciated.

I had a good time with the season overall, but I am so over the promiscuous man/virgin woman trope. I get that it makes sense for women of Pen’s status in society to not be experienced, but Colin could have been so much more interesting if he had remained kind of the inexperienced one amongst the Bridgerton brothers. Give us more inexperienced men in media! Stop implying that men are only attractive when they are promiscuous because to some of us it is the opposite.
@willdo2909
@willdo2909 2 ай бұрын
Nobody implies that experienced men are more attractive, just you. Colin is trying to fit in, playing the rake, who he is not, and in a way is probably still not an expert at sex or his own feelings or his true self. Going to a brothel was kind of what was done, but it does not turn you into a sex fiend. I am not sure what "media" you normally consume but it does sound very clicheed. Apart from that, it is a fictional story, there is limitations to how much it relates to real life. In reality you'd want him examined by a doctor to check he hasn't got any STDs that he'd transfer to his prospective wife.

Video idea: there's a line colin uses to flirt (gag) at the start of episode 1 that if he told what he did while traveling, he would so compromise the ladies that he would be forced to marry them. But he wrote extensively to penelope. Yeah. A video showing all the scandalous, inappropriate things they have done and said with each other that should have meant forced marriage in that society would be hilarious. And probably illuminating for the "casual viewers" who haven't picked up all of the hints that have been dropped over 3 seasons. I suspect that a lot of people are secretly just waiting for the inevitable wedding announcement for those two. Even if some absolutely refuse to see her as an eligible miss. Even Violet and Cressida see it (they have probably known the whole time). Like a lot of people saw the whole Kanthony tension but kept quiet until he figured out what to do, I am betting there are a lot of the ton who sort of assumed that both Penelope and Colin were spoken for as soon as she came out. An "understanding " between great families that probably just wasn't formalized because of Edmund's tragic death before documents could be signed, or something like that.

As someone who didn't read the books and may be counted in as "general" audience, I can say that I've been on board with Polin since season 1. And especially when you rewatch the seasons you can see the progression they have in their relationship. So for me it wasn't so sudden. However I would've hoped for at least 1 episode to showcase the shift in Colin more but more for my shipper heart's sake than for me as a viewer to be clear about his feelings. Totally agree about additional episodes considering all of the subplots. Like Season 2, some parts were so dragged out and a bit unnecessary (Edwina got too much screen time). The Polin parts were too rushed. If Benedict is Season 4, I hope they do a better job of developing his actual character. He seems like a comedic sidekick right now, not the next leading man. He had more depth in past seasons, through his relationship/interactions with Eloise. As for Cressida, I guess they are trying to establish her intelligence, character and her family dynamic, so we understand what motivates her drive to be the one to uncover Lady Whistledown.

I believe the plot line for violet is a lot more interesting than just being a mom. So please don't write off characters once they hit a certain age because it feels as though You're put out the pasture. I honestly believe that what makes the character so interesting in Bridgeton.Is that you care about them?And you want?What's best for them?And you want them to be happy. Quite frankly younger people mess up and life a lot because they don't know nor do they understand how precious and valuable life truly is. Lady danbury deserves love as does violet
@michellebenincasa6872
@michellebenincasa6872 2 ай бұрын
I bet that it's less that any of us necessarily write Violet off romantically than that we either think Marcus will not be "it" for her or that there's not enough time in this show to do it justice. Or both. I have heard that there are people who are seriously commenting in the Fandom about doing a Violet spinoff like they did for Charlotte or extending the Charlotte spinoff to cover Violet and Lady Danbury's romances, too. There's actually a whole series about Violet when she was younger that could work to flesh out the backstory for a spinoff show about her. The author wrote quite a bit in her Bridgerton-verse. Seeing her "children" react to her having a love life would be pure comedy gold.

I feel like the people saying Colin and Pen don't have a lot of chemistry are the same people who either didn't watch/rewatch season 1&2 or skipped all of the subplots involving the two characters to get to the main plot, which in turn left them with no context of the Polin relationship. I know many people are complaining about Colin being a 'playboy," but like you said, we need to see this hypermasculinity so it can be a stark contrast when he is around Pen and how he has changed his mindset for her. I think a good comparison is Anthony in season 1, where he was a playboy and part of the gentleman's club, but then we saw him grow into his relationship with Kate in season 2, and now he is a completely different person from season 1.

my theory for the function of the Mondrich subplot is highlighted by the convo between him and Benedict, where B tells him the lay of the land. I assume that many of the viewers are not familiar with the rules of regency society, including myself. I think their story arc will help explicitly define the some of the rules - especially those of the marriage mart. It is a common theme that the Bridgerton children continually break those rules (Daphne kissing Simon and getting married quickly, Kanthony having premarital sex, Eloise hanging with commoners ). #Polin are the epitome of rule breakers. Like you’ve mentioned before, since s1 - unchaperoned visits, hand holding, kissing, etc. I believe part 2 will have them break many more rules 🤭. Benedict also tells Mondrich that once married, you are free from the rules and can live as you please. Pen told Collin that she wants to marry this season to acquire freedom - meanwhile the Mondrichs are exploring and pushing the bounds of that so called freedom. It begs the question of will Pen get the freedom she so desires or will she still be bound to the whim of the ton, despite being married? It’s even more interesting to think about, considering B noting that the rules are to make sure the marriage mart continues. LW continually challenges the Queen in her ruling of the Mart, how will her personal relationships affect the Mart? I feel like Pen’s confidence may come in part 2 and it might shake some shit up! Things will never be the same

1:04:55 I personally thought the sub-plot with Penelope's sisters could have been stretched out more. Like in one of the first episodes the sisters already start trying for a baby, but it would have been interesting (to me) to kinda see their struggles with not really understanding how its done and their mother finding it too awkward to explain, maybe them asking their friends/husbands about it etc. Because in the episodes we dont even see their mother trying to explain it to them, its just a cut and then theyre going at it yk?

Honestly I think the main problem with Bridgerton in general, and why so many people were left unsatisfied with season 3 and even season 2, is the amount of episodes. 8 episode seasons just doesn't feel like enough time to properly get to know the characters and have a good balance of sub plots,main plots, and characters getting enough screen time.

I totally agree with you basically on everything 😄 Also I came to conclusion that Bridgerton needs to be watched multiple times, because a lot of things are very subtle and are very about the glances and facial expression and particular wording and I personally thing it's hard to sometimes catch everything on the first watch...I realized it after I rewatched s02 this year and started to be obsessed with the show out of the blue, because I saw more all of the sudden in it! I knew already what is happening, absorbed the dresses and all the gorgeous visual things they do in the show on the 1st watch, so I was more aware of every glance, every word, every move the actors did...and now with this new season I just confirmed this hypothesis, because on the first watch it was really good and funny and I really enjoyed it, but only after a rewatch I just love this season so far ❤ As you said the problem is a little bit pacing for the general audience, most of the hate on Colin I read - answers are right there in the show totally correctly represented, you just need to pay attention what he/others are saying and doing, his struggle - it is all right there! 😄 and it makes sense (for example what is said - whistledown mention, Eloise line "must be lonely", Violet, the journal, the carriage confession...). And Luke, damn he is really good, because he has to basically double act - he has to act as true Colin who is trying to act quite well for the Ton 😄 and he is brilliant with the subtle expressions, or at least I have sometimes a feeling - hey you are thinking THIS right now, I saw that eyes shift! 😄 btw. carriage scene, Colin and the dress 😄 (I just gape at that like the hell, was that intentional? 😄) and someone already asked on the internet and it was all Luke apparently, he did not get direction on this, he just did it himself 😄

That was a good kiss🫦🤭🤌🏾 I saw his expression shift but not enough. Finally Violet notices 🙌🏾

I wouldn't be surprised if Violet always knew about Colin and Penelope. It would put a different shading on her reaction to his engagement with Marina. That's always sort of been how I read her. She sees her children very clearly and struggles to know whether (or how much) to nudge them on their paths. It's even alluded to a bit by Kate in 3x01.

Hi Sammy, I was looking forward your analysis. I agree with everything you said (amazing!) just maybe the Mondrichs I think I really I can't see where they are going with that plotline and I could have done without them (let's see the second part). I would like to expand on the "sex" journal. I really think they missed an opportunity to use it. Book Colin got (unreasonably) angry to Pen for reading. I like they changed here BUT she was actually reading something VERY personal. I have just a whole Idea of how they would have used that to: - Explain more how "out of character he is behaving to the general audience - Put in him some "horniness" towards Penelope - Put some horniness in Pen towards Colin (because: yes she asks the kiss because she thinks she lost everything but actually in the book the idea arises because he talks about the fact that she could be ruined if a rumor about him and her together). She could have read more "sexual things", she could have imagined what she was reading with her voice. They could have talked briefly about what was written and that actually wasn't meant for a lady to read (they could share embarrassment for the fact she had read something so inappropriate) and then make him read with his voice arriving to the part where he says that even if intimate with a woman he doesn't feel connection... and THEN look at his hand hinting that he feels connection to PEN. It does not even take an episode to to this! (just remove it from the Mondrichs)! The other thing is about the brothel scene. I think we could have done without (and hinting only to the fact that he got experienced oversea)... I liked more "virgin romantic" Colin idea but... I can live with sexual active Colin. It was awful that he went to meet Penelope just after the brothel! And overall I like who suggested that the tresome helped him to feel less personal. Anyway, even if I would have appreciated some things made different, I still LOVED the season... like... for me is a 9 out of 10 (at the moment). I look forward your next videos!

Agree wholeheartedly, that the journal scene needed to be more overt/longer. I definitely feel like it is part of what has Penelope asking for that kiss & they could have made that clearer.

The mondrage (spelled wrong I know) plot may be preparing us for Sophie. An outsider having to adapt to the ton. I don’t know I feel like everything is there for a reason. I personally like being entertained. I rarely have any complaints. I am easily pleased 😂

Penelope HAS TO say to Colin she sacrificed hers and her family's reputation for him. Because she loved him. She never told him, she never got anything from it, but she did it. And he needs to understand.
