Colin had Zero game! He spent every episode with his mouth hanging open and saying nothing. They definitely messed up his character by trying to have him be a Rake - he just doesn't have that type of swagger. They also should have had Pen make him work for it - after that carriage scene, she should have been like "you can go now, goodnight" and shut the door. If she wants lessons, she should be hanging out with Lady Tilly (the woman that Benedict is sleeping with) instead of asking Colin to help her.

I can't wait to learn more about ole Tilly! She was a fund surprise! I agree with you about making him work for it and his personality change. It felt a little off, but I'm holding out hope for part 2.

that was the point though 😭 they didn't mess up his character because that was what they were going for. he isn't supposed to be a rake but society, including his brothers have always told him to be one. like the time anthony telling colin that he should have taken him to more brothels or when colin talks to fife and the other men. when in fact, he's always been a hopeless romantic at heart (we can see this when he pursues marina in s1) and mama bridgerton even says that he's always been the most sensitive out of all her children. in the carriage scene, colin even says in his speech to pen "i have tried to feel less (this was referring to his sensitivity btw, not his feelings for pen); and be the kind of man society expects me to be". when he is with pen, he can be himself, that's why in the carriage scene we can see that colin is reverting back to his s1 self. they also can't drag on the yearning/groveling for too much because there's more to their story other than their romance. they also have to set up the lady whistledown reveal. sorry for the long reply but theres just a lot of unnecessary criticism regarding colin's character 😭😭

@@wuvxiao I get what they were trying to do with Colin's character - in my opinion, they just didn't succeed. I get the point of character arcs, but you can't have characters just do anything - the reason that Colin's character is ringing false is because it is completely out of character for who he is. You can have a character make mistakes and experience growth, but it still needs to seem right for who they are as a person.

She would be just as bored as Queen Charlotte. Sometimes yes, but all day everyday, she would go mad. The Brigertons are just her speed. I do agree he needed to chase her wayyy more than he did. Just as she yearned for him all that time, he needed to know what it felt like longer than she gave him that's for sure. Now Francesca, I can see with that life. She would absolutely flourish. Eloise stated that she ended up hanging out with Cressida because she was the only one who would talk to her during her public shaming. If you remember last season Eloise was unchaperone with a commoner from the lower class .She was also going to radical rallies. The family was already shame due to the Fallout with Anthony she made it even worse. Eloise this season has a "if you can't beat them join them attitude".

It'll come later in the season, but Colin will cop to having always having feelings for Penelope he just didn't know what they were or how to identify them because they were friends, but there was a reason he held her in such high esteem. For Colin, Penelope wasn't an option because she didn't make it known that she had feelings for him. The kiss they shared is what opened his eyes to the feelings he's had for her, but didn't recognize and the only reason it looks like he was making a move when Debling showed an interest was because he realized he could lose her. What he really wanted was for her to be happy which is why he asked if Debling proposed before he decided to share how he was feeling about Penelope with Penelope. If she accepted Debling's proposal he wouldn't have confessed his feelings for her because he didn't want to ruin her chance at happiness if it was to be found elsewhere without him. He was struggling with reasons for why Penelope shouldn't be with Debling because he really just wanted to be the one for her and really didn't like that Debling intended to be away from Penelope for years at a time. Even without Debling's interest, Colin had already started to fall for Penelope after that kiss. Another suitor just meant that they'd snatch away what he hadn't realized he'd had all along because of their friendship.

I loved this season I mean in season 1 Daphne and Simon their chemistry wasn’t for me wasn’t strong then season 2 Anthony and Kate they had chemistry but they took to long I liked their scenes in season 3 but I wasn’t really waiting to see them a lot I cared more about Colin and Pen since season 1 when I first watched the series I shipped them felt their chemistry and didn’t know that this series was taken from books and that they are supposed to get together when I found out I was happy and after finishing watching season 3 part 1 I went to read the book it’s amazing and I love it, this season is my favorite. I liked the guy that wanted to propose to Pen but she wants love not someone to marry her and leave her to travel she was already alone yes he liked her personality but he wasn’t falling in love and yes she enjoyed her time with him but when it got serious and he talked to her about proposal she looked like she didn’t want but she will force herself to accept which is wrong and sad so I am happy she didn’t get with him, I didn’t really care that Colin was a playboy it was obvious that he was trying to fit in society which was sad that he think that was the way and him realizing his felling after a kiss was actually realistic I know people who were best friend and something needed to happen for them to realize their feelings and the proposal was amazing it shows Pen that he is serious and not horny because of the kiss also they can get closer while they are engaged even after their marriage.

You brought up Colin exchanging letters and if it was a bug deal 👀 the big deal was that he takes her UNCHAPERONED into seprate rooms behind closed doors (such as when he was telling her about fale necklace) and he damces with her multiple times each ball. (2 dances at one ball means you courting the miss an is a way of showing your intrest to othwr guys) and he always confides in her not his brothers kr friends etc. He has touched an held her hand too many times YOU DONT DO THAT TO JUST A FRIEND IN THOSE DAYS 😅 this why last season all the guys an even his family (even more in books) on his neck questioning him whats the deal is he serious abiut courting Pen or just being nice which is when he says how he'd never BUT THEN HE STILL PULLS HER ALONE UNCHAPERONED AND GETS ALL IN HER PERSONAL SPACE It's no wonder this poor girl Pen falling for him. He practically been courting her for years an then keeps saying how much he relies on her an can trust her. Telling her how he'd always look out for her etc. Keep in mind she friends with other Brighton's but his brothers don't follow her wveey move when in same room nor do they exchange letters or dance etc. Also yeah i hated the "proposal" too. Pen our hopeless romantic writer who reads romances daily deserved better.

This is a man who pledged to take care of her in season 2. Where is he? Instead he just goes off to be a slut in 17 cities? And doesn’t give two shits about a friend not writing him back? Just goes and fucks some more sex workers and Countesses? Let me write about it in my journals too! 3. His apology was glib and unworthy of Penelope and their friendship. They made it about Penelope thinking she is unworthy not Colin being a drunk ass and insulting her to eligible bachelors/her chances on the marriage mart. 4.He didn’t bring presents🎁 back for her. So was he even thinking 💭 about her ? At all ? You would think when you’re shopping for presents for everybody someone who special to you would be on your mind to get them something. 5.Colin comes back does the same whoring about the entire time he is teaching Penelope lessons (for weeks apparently) and then kisses her because he feels sorry for her. Ugh that is so gross to me. 6.Then because he is supposedly so despondent over Pen having a suitor, he goes back to fuck some sex workers again. 7.He only gets up enough courage to tell Penelope how he feels once he knows she is getting proposed to. Like he couldn’t call on her, not even once, or bribe her maid again, to see her and explain how he feels. Instead it’s poor me me me me…. I keep asking myself why I should want ShondaColin with Penelope. She deserves sooo much better than him. omg they haven't ruined his character 😭 i alr replied to another comment but i refuse to let the lack of comprehension by people be the reason for colin's mischaracterization. colin became a rake bcus that was what society expected him to be. with anthony being his only father figure, it doesn't help that he tells colin that he should have taken him to brothels more and it certainly doesn't help that colin is constantly surrounded by fife and the others that keep on talking about sexualizing women. one would assume that his speech in the carriage scene would clear up things regarding his character when he directly says that he was trying to be a man society expects him to be. he is also definitely affected by pen not writing him back over the course of his travels, which i suspect might also be the reason he became much more of a rake. he lacked that emotional connection with his only friend that listened to him earnestly (his family doesn't even listen to him regarding his travels, merely dismissing him every time), leading him to seek more physical connection with other women but that soon proved to be not the solution. when pen reads his journal, he says that he is still lonely despite sleeping around. he realizes his feelings with pen during their kiss because that was what was missing between them, the physical conncection. they already had that emotional intimacy (this is evident in the way colin seeks out pen at every social gathering). when pen reads his journal, it says that in the midst of being physically connected to other women, he still feels lonely. he lacks the emotional connection with them. this is why the kiss with pen was the thing that made him realize his feelings for her. also to bring her presents would be highly improper as he is not courting her.

The reason he asked her to marry him that way is because that look he gave her before he got out of the carriage, he was really looking at her like "this is my person, this is who I'm supposed to be with". So he had already figured that they were meant to be together and truly and honestly, they'd been courting the entire time under the guise of friendship cuz they weren't supposed to be writing letters to each other. That was taboo as they weren't married. Once he got physical with her he realized that that was it for him (which is why he wasn't interested in the second threesome at the brothel. Homeboy literally couldn't get it up because Penelope's kiss wrecked him). The way he asked was like "Come on, you know we want to be together. Are we getting hitched or nah?"

I think they tried by having him question her after her interaction with lord Remington who was in the wheelchair and even at the cake stand when he asked if she had any attachment to lord debling.

The way I understand is the cousin from season two was going to be the new Lord featherington, actually swindled many members of the Ton out of their money before he left. Mrs. Featherington knew of the swindle and told him to go to America and never come back, meanwhile, she took all of his money. Great aunt Petunia, is a real person, but that’s not where the money came from. I think the writers are bringing some foreshadowing, because of that man from the Royal House who came in and said “I’m keeping my eye on you Mrs. featherington to see that the inheritance document is legitimate, (the document stating that the estate will go to the firstborn grandson), and not a fraud… which it is. However, if one of her daughters has a boy before the fraud is found out I think they hold on to the estate. That’s why mama feathering is so involved in her daughter’s “private play time”.
