I am ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the speed in which things were attended to was greatly helped by having cameras on the ground. The spotlight was much brighter because your vlog was keeping an eagle eye, disseminating information unadulterated, from ground zero & the perspective of the people primarily affected directly out to a global audience in almost real time. This is the way things get done in the modern age when you don't have money or power but are up against entities that have both. You're a credit to the narrowboat community.

@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat longer term they need to look at bringing in a pontoon to create a foot bridge across the mud and low laying water so that he can cross freely from one side to the other to have easy access to water and supplies from the road. It would be fairly easy to rig something up with some large empty plastic containers/drums and some wooden pallets but really it would be much easier if Peel just purchased a few sections of pontoon that are made for this exact sort of scenario.

And the excuse with the bottom, not a real one. if bottom is uneven, use narrow planks. What about those sand bags. Too big to be maneuvered. Not sealed. Overturned the sand was gone in a second. But this is the century we live in. We do everything with machines, and we are specialized. Anything out of our sector we are with no clue. Farmers for sure had some clue, but they were not invited to help. For sure those were Peel staff, following orders of bureaucrats without a clue.

@craigwelshКүн бұрын
@davidshingleton6573 as the chap in the video helping with the hosepipe said l, it was be an expensive operation to move a 70ft 21ton boat out of that canal onto a transporter. If it's viable to then get a boat of that weight and length through the roads in that area. They'd probably prefer a coffer dam at the ends of the breached section and float them back out if they can. Might even be cheaper to write the boats off and cut them up than recover them overwise..

@@pauledwardson7554 they are now stranded in one location, many of whom do not have their own vehicles, and would usually traverse the waterways enabling them to pick up essential supplies like wood/coal/fuel and food. Where they are located there are no food shops within walking distance, so it makes getting food supplies more difficult. Wether they *need* food 'handouts' or not, the people who distribute food waste purposefully remove the usual restrictions of a food bank system which 'means tests' eligibility to receive donations from the food bank. Community fridges and pantries and other food waste initiatives seek to make the food available to ALL regardless of your means, to ensure that waste food, of which there is an alarming amount created every single day of the year, does not needlessly go in to landfill. The people organising the local community fridge to where the breach occurred have seen what has happened and offered to bring some of their surplus over to them as a gesture of help in difficult circumstances. To not have to think about or worry how or where you are going to get food from for the next few days whilst you are concentrating on working out how your boat and your home is going to be rescued from this awful situation must have been a huge relief for everyone stuck on the canal. I don't understand why you seem to have such an issue about someone else's generosity of spirit and the coming together of a local community to support all of those affected by this unexpected disaster. They brought far more supplies than just the Taylors could consume and they were clearly offered up to all of the boaters in their section. A very kind thing to do to try and make a difficult situation a little easier.

@@54RKYYou're half correct. 'Ey up me duck' or 'ay up me duck' is thought to have originated from a combination of Old-Norse and Anglo-Saxon words. 'Ey up' is an Old Norse phrase meaning 'watch out.' 'Me duck' is an affectionate term coming from the Anglo-Saxon word 'ducas' which means 'lord' or 'duke.' The phrase 'ey up me duck' is now used as an affectionate greeting mainly in the North and East Midlands, sometimes in Yorkshire and is 'arguably' most commonly associated with Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands where i originate, so 'ey up me duck' is the correct modern day saying/greeting. I simply change the word 'duck' to 'ducks' when addressing more than one person. 🙂

Glad you're coping (with the generous help from others). Hopefully they put the cofferdam in the right place so they can refill the section of canal where you are to let you get out of there 🤞

being ill over christmas the one thing that really made me smile was dad re living the good old 90's trance scene whilst navigating them waterways. what about a 90's trance night on the boat to pick up spirits. you could put joe on the door if you can get him across the water 😀😀😀

😂😂😂. Maybe that's a great idea. I personally love 90s music and Joe is such a character. He is great

Hi guys! Glad you’re still OK. Thanks so much to your walking boots for carrying you on that long walk, it’s really appreciated! The drone footage did an awesome job of showing the extent of the damage and your on foot (thanks to the boots!) close up view was really interesting, I had a right laugh at your neighbours antics with the water hose, he seems like a right character! Happy that your dad got back ok All the best till next time ✌🏻🇬🇧

Found channel by accident, i live lancashire by the countryside and canals and always walked my dogs there every single day no matter what, i always wondered if canals burst their banks like rivers and what would happen if they did, i met loads of people off longboats, even seen them sink in lock when point of boat hooked in lock gate and sink as water drained 😭 the lock keeper saved an old lady on board by jumping straight in there scary? Dont walk any more wish i could? But ive found this vlog so interesting from the start, very sad but interesting hope your mum ok and cats, it scared me when you nearly flipped i wish you well and hope all gets resolved, i live down hill from canal so would have took full force if it had happened. The village i mean. Canals were phenomenal used where i live in past for coal and pits, ive swam in the canal lots in my day, so i grew up by them! Love your cats great company 👍👋❤️

If they were to crane you out it wouldn’t be a “million quid”😂. Looking from you drone footage the crane would have to sit at a radius of about 25m on the road and lay-by with its outriggers on ekky matts to spread the weight, a crane mat (hardstanding) may have to be constructed for GBP. Assuming your boat is 20 tonne as you have previously said then at that radius a 220/250 tonne mobile crane would be needed (a Liebherr ltm 1250 5.1 would lift it with ease up to about 32m radius). The biggest issue is the presence of the HV cables in near proximity. I would estimate total cost would be between £30,000/£40,000. Crane itself would only be between £2000/£3000 for a days contract lift. The real cost will be the enabling works, and closure of the road. I’m a blue card AP (Appointed Person) for crane operations. Hopefully it won’t come to this, and they can instead create a bund between the break and the first boat (not sure about the grey boat though) and refloat you.
@warrenstanford7240Күн бұрын
Yeah the fella is talking bollox, I’ve seen massive lifts at various Works such as Innospec ( Octel ), Brunner Mond Winnington, United Utilities Waste Water Works and my current workplace Point of Ayr Gas Terminal using Bryn Thomas and Ainscough biggest cranes.
@sectokia1909Күн бұрын
All they will do is bulldoze rocks into the cannal on both sides of the breach, then pulldoze some clay on to the rocks. Then they can reflood the cannal. This would only be a few days work and I'm surprised it isn't already done.
@warrenstanford7240Күн бұрын
@ They won’t do anything until late Spring at the earliest and the reconstruction will take six months to start and take two and a half years to complete……🤔
@garymitchell5899Күн бұрын
@@sectokia1909That's not a long-term solution and would be very expensive anyway. It'll get fixed but it won't be quick.
@alan-sk7kyКүн бұрын
@@sectokia1909 Possibly, but at the moment all the surrounding land is practically waterlogged. Far to soggy for bringing heavy machinery across. it'll have to wait until things dry out.

Thank you Josh for another video. On looking at the videos I noticed that the wide beam boat seems to be moored opposite a winding hole , which seems a bit odd or are my eyes playing tricks and it is not a winding hole. Well done for helping Jo with his water. Look after Mum Josh please, you are a good son.

Josh your updates are marvellous. My interest is down to my love of canals & though I wanted to live aboard I never managed it, my daughter didn't want to. We have few canals down here, the Somerset coal canal that joins the K&A and the Bude canal and as always fab groups of enthusiasts who hope to get them back in water. I'm chuffed to have found your channel but sorry for your circumstances. Your pictures today are lovely, a winter wonderland indeed. Here in Dorset we just had rain 😔

I flew there this morning, and a couple of other places nearby. It was magical but bloody cold ! I did a video from 5th December after storm Darragh - but I think my assumptions about the Bollin undermining the canal are wrong. The snow was horrible and wet. As soon as I got out of the car my boots got soaked ! Wrong boots ! Dur ! I was also flying in the clouds - which was weird - I don't fly a high as you. Thanks for your great footage.
@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat21 сағат бұрын
This happened because of the river bollin bursting it's banks then caused the breach on the canal

Wow the River Bollin culvert is still blocked. I used to swim in the river there,just upstream of the canal embankment, in the 1960s and now it's a lake. What a mess.
