I think that is a rather trite summation of what happened, considering the major motivator for partition came from the Islamic majority in the regions that wanted partition. This was largely a response to the Muslim v Hindu violence. Also, Mountbatten was British by birth, and actively renounced his connections with Germany. He fought against Germany and saw active service in both World Wars. Mountbatten was tasked with trying to avoid partition, but sadly the competing wishes and intransigent violence from both Muslim and Hindu extremists ensured that would not be possible.
