Bridging Synthetic Immunology and Genome Editing to Advance CAR-T Cell Therapies

The novel biology of CAR-T cells have transformed the treatment of extremely aggressive cancers. In this talk, Julia Carnevale and Justin Eyquem describe how rewiring the biology of immune cells can help improve outcomes for patients with aggressive cancers. They will explore how exciting tools like genomic editing harness the power of CRISPR-based discovery platforms to identify novel gene targets.
Speakers
Julia Carnevale, MD, is an assistant professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at UCSF Health and an affiliate investigator at the Gladstone Institutes. She treats patients with gastrointestinal cancers and also performs research into finding novel therapies for these diseases.
Justin Eyquem, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Departments of Medicine and Microbiology and Immunology at UCSF and an affiliate investigator at the Gladstone Institutes. He joined UCSF as a Parker fellow in 2019 and became assistant professor at the Gladstone Institute of Genomic Immunology in 2021.
