Yeah, man. I didn't do mini-gaming much, other than my horde of designer boxed board games which happen to have minis. Recently decided to get my solitaire skirmish campaign gaming on and picked up Five Leagues From The Borderlands. Hopefully that will get my butt back in my painting chair because there's still a lot of grey plastic sitting around without any color on them. If I decided to go rules-light, for running the plastic with an RPG to provide a bit more depth, AFF would be at or near top of the list. Helps that it's numerous massive monster manuals have kept up with consolidating all their beasties into numerous encounter tables. Less work to do beforehand. Enjoy!

Good pick! The classic artwork in the AFF books often hit the right spot for me. The AFF RPG sits in an unusual position as being quite easy and quick to play yet still manages to be a skill-based game with the associated advantages over class-based systems. Of course, make sure to use at least two different colors of d6s so you can also roll your armor/damage die at the same time as your (contested) attack roll. Four different colors if you're rolling for both sides at once. It will move at quite a clip! 🤘

AFF is a great system, with tons of flavor and a unique style of it's own.

Great topic! Can't wait to see how this turns out. And I feel your pain on creating a running a long term campaign.

Nice one, and it mirrors my own current thoughts. Have been gathering some ideas for a multi-player tabletop skirmish with around five figures per player. Interested to see where you go with this, will be following!

AFF is great. Graham Bottley had mooted a solo expansion but not heard much more on that.

Any day that Quest Wise uploads is a good day. :) I was having this discussion with my wife, regarding the "burden" of RPGs. My personal conclusion is that any RPG is at its root an escapist activity, more so than other less imagination taxing pastimes. I am at a point in my life where I prefer to be more present and find travelling in dreamscapes as exhausting as physical travel (usually for many of the same reasons). It's why my solo games have downgraded to the things that aren't as exhausting: world building, character creation, Kevin Crawford/ Tricube Tale style card deck challenge gauntlet style adventures/ quests. It's all the "what if" of an abstract simulation game stripped right down to the bone and my imagination provides the occasional burst of flavor/ color rather than having to slog through the minutia in order to appreciate the big picture in hindsight. As the old stereotype goes, you haven't been in this hobby until you start developing your own ruleset/ playstyle. It's inevitable and a badge of honor. Love your videos. Reminds me of the good old days when hanging out with likeminded folks was less of a challenge. Stay warm.

AFF is an awesome system to base such a game on and if want any tips/tricks to develop a miniature heavy, skirmish, narrative type experience then my suggestion would be to take a look at Rangers of Shadow Deep.
