I wanted to add, it was this same time Drake was working on Take Care and The Weeknd gave him 3 of his own tracks that were supposed to be part of the trilogy and he was involved in like 2 other tracks on top of the 3 he gave away. Many Drake fans consider Take Care to be top tier classic and honestly The Weeknd’s influence and vibe really contributed to that classic status

Rolling stone isn’t about a girl. He is foreshadowing Abel’s career and talking to his fans. He understands that he will eventually go mainstream instead of underground dark r&b. He hopes that his fans will still listen to his music. During 2015- current he transitioned to more pop. Some fans wanted the dark music back and criticized him. But He also gained new fans. “love me before they all love me.”

I discovered The Weeknd in Dec 2011, right when Echoes of Silence dropped, so I got to explore all 3 at the same time. Over several years I listened to his music at least once a day, he became my favorite artist pretty quickly because I could relate to some aspects of his music, thankfully not all of it 😂 his musical abilities are also just insane. My favorite of the 3 mixtapes would change, each had their own pros and cons but were all amazing considering he was still anonymous at this time. EOS was my initial favorite, then HOB, then Thursday, then back to EOS, then Thursday, then HOB, it would constantly change depending on my mood and the season lol. Thursday is usually 3rd in many lists but once I sat with the songs a bit more they just seemed to shine in their own ways

Thursday is my favorite album/mixtape out of his discography. The story telling is immaculate. Gone, rolling stone and Valerie take it for me. The concept of a different girl every day of the week is something that took me surprise. Also Thursday's(the song) melancholic melody gives me something that no other song does, maybe echoes of silence(also the song) but these are rare songs. True underrated gems. And the seamless beat switch in gone goes unnoticed every time.
