I stayed in France for 8 weeks when I was 15. Whilst there I met a young man from La Ciotat near Marseilles. He was all excited as he was coming to stay in Bridgwater with a group of young people as his town was twinned. Bridge & Water he said. It must be very beautiful. My family had him to stay for a weekend while he was over here. I took him bell ringing at my local church. I introduced him to friends. We took him for a meal at the pub & I showed him beautiful Exmoor (a long walk) Sadly all he did was moan. You see there was no cafe culture in 1964 All he kept saying was Ou sont les camarades? Ou sont les cafes? Oh well. He didn't bother to learn English & just kept saying No trouble. Not sure why!!
