The thing that gets me is that the South African document doesn’t mention Hamas using “human shields.” It criticizes Israel of 2-3 incidents where IDF forces might have used a civilian as a shield. Based on the steps Israel takes with pamphlets, calls, texts, a digital map, a hotline, and roof knocking - it seems like it would be extremely hard to prove that the Israelis intentionally target Palestinians as a people - to prove genocide. Additionally, there is nothing that talks about Palestinians who may be noncombatants, but then engage in activities where one could argue they are combatants: carrying ammunition, voluntary human shields, allowing Hamas fighters to hid in residences, etc. At the end of the day, Gaza has been fortified in 16 years (especially with the tunnels) into one massive fort. Hamas wanted to fight an asymmetric protracted war against the IDF where they’re forced to endure house-to-house fighting, ambushes, and IEDs. It would be great if Israel field a suit against the Palestinians at the ICJ for being complicit with Hamas’ military activities - Hamas didn’t dig all those tunnels, fabricate all those rockets, and hide all those weapons without Gazans’ help and knowledge.

The Jewish eschatological prospective of commentators is fully appreciated. However, what was missing is their acknowledgement of Israel's culpability in its brutal military occupation and repression, the obvious genocide now occurring in Gaza, the apparent total disregard for Palestinian human rights and importantly the need for an immediate negotiated peaceful resolution, e.g. a single or two state solution. In other words, instead of a constant repressive military response (e.g. its either them or us), why not admit culpability and past transgressions, and invite all the parties (including Hamas and Hezbollah) to the table for a negotiated peace? IMO, absent such an approach Israel is only sealing its own demise.
