Here are more informations about it: The entire path is lined with numerous carved figures that wood sculptors from the Brienz region have carved from tree stumps left behind by the storm Lothar and the avalanche winter of 1999. New sculptures are created every year during the carving week.

I loved that hike. When I stayed in Brienz, I took a shorter walk to an animal sanctuary above the village. I was told that the woodcarvers used it for studying the animals they would carve from wood. It was not so high above the lake but I enjoyed it. I don't know the name of it. Do you? I also enjoyed the woodcarving workshops in town where we could look at their carvings.

Wow…thanks for sharing such beautiful scenery. Is this a round trip hike from Axalp to the lake & back and are there different trails? It looks quite high. We hope to do this next year in early june 2023 but hopefully the bus schedule permits it as we won’t have a car.
