Did all my rods for the first time this year. Love the darker u40 look for sure. Very easy to do and highly recommend doing this.

Awesome suggestion. Love the channel, Thanks. I’ve got about 16 rods that could definitely use this.

I have two Ugly Stik rods I used one coat of sealer on one rod & two coats on the other. The one with one coat still looks like it did from the factory but the one with two coat’s has a nice beautiful gloss look, they both still have the cork feel..

Done that with my P5s last week. Great result with minimal effort. Lets see how it handles the coming season.

I'm super protective of my reels, but I haven't cared as much keeping my rods clean. I've got an old LTB that could use some magic eraser love. Maybe I'll hit it with some U40 and see if I like the feel before doing the rest.

I was advised using beeswax and rub it on the cork, it's apparently also good and it won't have the shiny/texture feel compared to using poly based

i just had to reorder some U40 cork seal cause i let my old bottle dry up and thinking of doing my p5's and AGS rods before I even use them while they are still perfect and brand new. LOL

The only similar product that is sold here in Sweden is to seal/reinforce the surfaces of cork soles on sandals and shoes (i.e nothing you're gripping/holding). Bought it and gave it a shot, but boy did the grips end up slippery even with the thinnest layer with the excess wiped off. Maybe it was the product that wasn't suitable, but I also thought to myself before sanding it off: Why have pristine cork if it doesn't feel like cork..

Yeah I used something to preserve my Birkenstock sandals and it would be a mess on a rod handle. I put a good coat of U40 on but brushed it in very well. It’s a light coat but I wanted the texture of cork back so I sanded it very lightly with 400 grit paper and it’s much better feeling. I’m sure there is still some absorbed into the cork to protect it because the color is still darker than before but the feel is better now

Why does some cork come out glossy when cleaning & applying for 2nd time ?

The stuff I put on my cork handles is pro kote Epoxy what you used for the guides on your fishing rods all you have to do is get a wash rag with hot water and wipe it down and you never ever worry about the cork again get the flex coat it Last forever record

Do you do any cleaning or maintenance on EVA Foam? Looking for tips

A wet rag and a little soap is all you need

I like the patina that develops on an unsealed cork. The ark reinforcers have aaaa cork so there's not much filler to lose.

I like to keep my stuff as nice as possible to keep the resale value at it's peak, so I take good care of the cork.

I used the u-40 for ll of my rods in this few years, I just got 782SRJ and I saw I am out, so I went to buy from amazon and I saw U-40 bottle with harder, Any idea what is that?

I buy it off Tackle Warehouse personally.

I U40’d a new Orochii handle and it darkened it up like an old dumpster find. Do you recommend waiting for awhile or just doing it when new? I lightly sanded it to get back the velvet softness and it lightened a bit.

If you're going to seal it, I do it right away. It's really up to you though.

I would be disappointed in that cork from megabass. St. Croix cork looks so much better.
@playingwithmytrains54402 жыл бұрын
Good quality rods like St Croix use great cork and shouldn’t need any treatments. I have rods over 15 years old and they are just fine. I have heard the cork on a Megabass is just average. Maybe they need a treatment. I’m not buying into this one.

🤷 nobody is forcing anyone to do it

Beyond keeping cork/filler intact, I seal my handles so they don't absorb grime off my hands and stain the cork. Blood/dirt/oil on my hands could soak in, but sealing prevents that.
