This video was what I was looking for. I have the same BS Storm Responder that will not run on the with the choke in the OPEN mode. Tried several carburetor cleaning solutions and no change. I assume the high speed jet is clogged and will follow your instruction to remove and clean the jets. Great video and to the point. Getting ready for hurricane Laurel.

Thanks for the video. I have an issue with my carburetor, I'm getting a fuel leak from the hole above the small inlet jet. On the side with the small hole and larger hole above it, it appears to be leaking from the larger hole. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for posting this video. I did exactly what you showed as far as cleaning the carb. It was clogged in that jet. The only hiccup was that I didn't get it assembled quite right the first time and had to repeat. As I took the bowl off, I was very careful but I never found any spring in my carb bowl. When I finally got it back together, it ran.

Big Thumbs up! Just survived the 2021 Texas deep freeze. Did not have water for most of a week, but thankfully my power stayed on. Good thing because my generator - just like yours in this video, would not start. After things warmed up, it would only run on full choke. Your video was spot on. I did not think I would be able to do a carb job until I found this video. Good content and good video quality. Just like yours, those two bowl screws were on with the "force of Thor" as you said. Vice grips were perfect solution. I was SO glad you mentioned 5/32" size to get the screws off that hold carb on. I did not have a 5/32 socket, but a 4mm socket was a perfect substitute (I keep a conversion chart handy for mm to fractions - 5/32 is 3.96875mm - sweet!). Overall saved me lots of time , effort and $$. Thanks.

One of the best videos for this generator. Last time I used this generator was for Wilma. 2 days a go I pulled it out and it fired up! A lot of people don't drain fuel and run it dry before storage. I also used sea foam before it ran dry. This is great investment to have in Florida. Thanks for the video FloridaBoy!

@cashen7384

Yep the best thing to do is shut the fuel off and run the carb dry when your storing it. Prevents the gas from turning into varnish and knastiness from the ethanol nowadays, that stuff attracts so much moisture out of the air its crazy. Gas out of pumps nowadays its even close to the same quality from about 20 years ago.

I've been looking at all the videos for the low speed jet. Now I know. THANKS. On these aftermarket Nikki carbs [if it surges at low idle] you have to drill out the low speed jet [not the high speed jet]. I just ordered jet drill bits to do that on my 10 1/2 hp briggs. Start with the next size drill bit and go from there. Many videos on KZbin to show how to do it.

Your video is fantastic! Followed your steps and the machine started right up. After about three minutes the engine began to puke out a thin combination of gas and oil through the carb and muffler. What could the problem? There is a little jet, which I cleaned, that is in the center of the carb which I'm not certain about. Somehow it fits into the plastic float apparatus in the center. It would be just above where the spring is. No one seems to address this jet. Looks like it has a small rubber O- ring on it.

Back in the 80's,I worked for the city parks department. I always used a speed wrench too. Nobody uses them anymore. They want to use some sort of power driver. I have a brand new generator,still in the box,for emergency power outage in the winter. I won't put gas in it until I have to,because the new gasoline gums everything so fast. And the ethanol in it eats the aluminum in the carb.

FloridaBoy. I realize I am a lil late but this was just the video I was looking for. Bought mine the same time you spoke about and it always cranked on the 1st pull, every time. Had to move and put it in storage after draining the fuel and put a lil Stabil in it. 6 months later, got her out of lock-up and check all my small engines. She would not start. Found you after troubleshooting and troubleshooting. Watched this video 1st then we went step-by-step with ya. The only thin I found and noticed, after the 2 bolts holding it together like a MUTHER and I also used vise grips to remove. I put a piece of wire in the high-speed jet, my rubber piece came out and went bouncing somewhere. after 2 beers and searching, found it. Other be aware of this coming out. Cleaned it while it was out an yup, it was gunked up. Used a scribe and put it on the end and with easy firm pressure, reseated it. You and I reassembled the carb at your pace. After all said and done, it was time to pull the cord. 2 pulls and I'm m=back in business. This instructional video was well thought out and put together. You did a great job making this easy for any novice mechanical person. Have a great Navy day from Tennessee!

My neighbor as well as a few other people i know still have their generators from back when Charlie hit in 2004... Bad thing is when their power was restored they just took the generator and threw it in the garage or shed and forgot about it... literally for 13 years... Now you have 13 yr old gas in the tank along with the fuel line TO the carburetor because your average Joe will not know to turn the fuel valve OFF 1st to burn off all the fuel in the lines & carburetor leaving it nice and somewhat CLEAN... If you used regular gas now you have ethanol in the fuel which is going to pull in OXYGEN to help corrode the carburetor... BAD THING.. Now your generator wont start, and if it does it wont run properly.... I just sold my generator a few weeks after charlie in 2004 so this didn't affect me when we got hit with Irma ... I did learn this in 2006 when i 1st purchased my Kawasaki Ninja that was carbureted... I let it sit in the garage for about 6 months without starting it or running it... Well one day i went to start it, it cranked up but would not stay on... And when i got it to idle, i hit the throttle and it would stall out... So i took it to the shop to find out the gas went bad & the ethanol in the fuel didn't help either.. That was a $250 repair bill that i promised myself i would never let that happen again.. So what he told me was to do was to use ethanol free fuel... So now i use ethanol free fuel in both my motorcycles... my lawnmower, and both my generators... He told me anything that runs on a carburetor you need to use ethanol FREE fuel... Or if you are going to use regular fuel you need to run that motor on a normal basis to keep the fuel flowing.. So i run both my generators one day per month and run them for 15 minutes with a 240V 20 amp load to make sure its working.. Sure it has been 13 yrs since hurricane Charlie.. But you never know...!!!
@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival
@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival 6 жыл бұрын
That was exactly the case with this one, it had been sitting for about 4 years, although I always run the gas out of the carb before I shut it down it was still gummed up from the ethanol. The Wawa near me has ethanol free gas that I run exclusively in these engines now as well as my lawn mower. It is just so much better for them. After I cleaned the carb it started on the first pull...I also cleaned another carb on a 3550 watt Troy bilt generator that I have that got me through 5 days after Irma....

Do you have a Part number for rebuild kit? I need that “o ring” type gasket that’s imbedded in the upper portion of the carb bowl (referenced at 10:21 of your video). The carb is dumping gas out of the intake (air filter) side so I want to replace all internal parts including gaskets and float needle. Thanks

Yes it did start right back up so there was not a part 2. If yours will not start your main jet is probably clogged. Try this, it is not hard at all...

I cannot get those screws out. I'm being very careful trying not to strip them why they used flat head and Phillips head screws instead of something with a hex head is beyond me. So everything's gone fast but I'm at a dead stop now. I'm hitting it with WD-40 hoping that it'll break three a little bit. And the metal on these bolts seems incredibly soft. Very frustrating to get through the whole disassembly down to the last two bolts. Took me maybe 30 minutes to get the carburetor off and now I've spent an hour just trying to get those screws out.

Didn't read F14TomcatAOC's post close enough. The high speed jet popped out - caugtt it as it slid out. Didn't see any piece of rubber which I presume would be a rubber o ring. Thanks for the video. My gen set would only run on choke the last time I needed it. It cleared up after a while but still had a miss once and awhile. Took my carb off and cleaned the junk out and it started on the first pull. Running smooth now. Yep, the screws must have loctite on them. I broke the tip on my screwdriver trying to loosen them. Vice grip tip worked great. My gasket swelled and I boiled it in water for a few mins and dried it in the sun and it shrunk enough to fit.

Have a question Im hoping you might be able to help I picked up a generator that has the same engine as yours. It ran when I first got it but it was rounning extremely rough pulled the carb and cleaned it. Now it runs alot better but when shutting it off it shut down so violently it looks like its going rip the motor off the mounts. Also if I dont shut off the fuel it will flood itself out. Any ideas as to what could be causing it to do this? Thankyou

I’m in the Baton Rouge area (Zachary) and the Murphy on Hwy 61 is the only close location we have for non-ethanol gasoline. Most people just don’t realize the way the humidity down here manages to contaminate any gas with ethanol by adding water to the “blend”, esp. when it is left in the tanks of equipment. Stabilizer does nothing to stop this process. Good to see a fellow Louisiana boy on here.
