THANK YOU! I'm a young widow with 4 kiddos and the shop said it would cost me $150-240 to clean my push mower's carb. I thought I can buy a brand new one for that! so I paid the fee for them to figure out what was wrong with it and left. Thanks to you I'm going to clean the carb again. I tried it before but the video I watched wasn't as in-depth as this one. Thank you! The tips like the welding tip cleaner and the chainsaw file are AWESOME! What a help you've been man. My power went out and I was trying to bring my Briggs and Stratton back to life. It kept leaking fuel even after I replaced the seat and needle. Hi Steve, Just wanted to drop you a line and say thanks again for your videos.I have a Toro 30" walk behind mower with a briggs engine. It has worked good for a long time. I just finished cutting grass and took a break, mower was working good. After break, started the engine, engaged the blades and it died. Started it again started and shut off right away. Remembered this video and comment about why engines sugre. I removed the fuel bowl and cleaned the jet, ran carb cleaner thru it, bowel was clean. Put it back on and it started right up, problem fixed. Thanks again Steve.

Glad I found this. I'm right in the middle of cleaning the carb and of course, I dropped the needle. The rebuild kit should have a new one. Great tips. Can't wait to finish. This is on a 12 year old Toro 7.5 hp mower that has never failed to start...but it just won't stay running. I got a new Toro, but I just could not bring myself to get rid of this one. This helped me. I had the brass jet apart 2 times, cleaning it out. I got it running a little bit, for 20 seconds at a time. Then you explained how to clean out the little jet center hole with a bread wrapper wire. So I took my jet out again. Holy crap, that thing was full of hard black junk. After reaming it with the bread wrapper wire and blowing it out, reinstalled the jet. Now I'm using my push mower again for the first time in 2 years. Thanks!

The copper wire inside electrical wire works great because it comes in lots of different sizes

That is what I use [soft drawn copper] and it is softer than the metal I'm cleaning, so it won't hurt the carb metal.

Thanks, Steve. Great video with clear instructions and good images. I have both a lawn mower and a snow blower and have eliminated things like spark plug or air filter...so, carburetor it may be. Will post back if it works. My only concern is skin contact with carb cleaners, so that part I will avoid.

Thanks a lot Steve! Did not realize that the bowl bolt was also the main jet. You solved my problem and saved me money!

Just discovered your channel. Nice videos bud! Suggestion: Maybe include some actual dirty carbs or whatever it is that needs to be cleaned or worked on rather than a 'prop' carb that's already in perfect condition. It would be cool to see you work your magic in real life!

Great channel! Had a Briggs running a little ruff after a few minutes. I followed your advise that 9 times out of 10 the carbs are clogged at the main jet and that was the case with mine. I didn’t even have to remove the carb. If your ever in Northern Illinois I owe you a beer! Thanks!!

Thanks to your comment about "90% of the time it's the fuel jet" I went back to have ANOTHER look at my fuel jet. I didn't realize the hole through the bottom where the fuel flows through was SO small. When you look at it initially the large opening make you think the hole is also big - but it is VERY SMALL. So when I took it off again I passed a very small wire through it and there was the tiniest amount of junk. This is what I missed the first time. Once I cleaned it up THOROUGHLY I put it back and now my Snow Blower runs like a dream! So THANK YOU for making that point CLEAR! You did it for me! Have a great New Year!

BTW My snow blower is a Simplicity 1226E which is big enough to blow away a small car and I love it! It has the Briggs & Stratton. Me and a few friends are wondering exactly WHAT causes that stuff that looks like vaseline that builds up over the summer and clogs the jet. The suspicion is that it is related to the ethanol in the gas. It appears to be like a gel and the smallest amount in that jet hole and the monster won't run!

I also like steel wool for heavily soiled carb bowls. Couple other things to add. Wear safety glasses around carb cleaner and use outdoors. Stuff wreaks. Don't use any object larger than the hole for cleaning you don't want to enlarge them. Especially on the main jet. Also, inspect the tip of the needle for a groove it indicates if it needs to be replaced. One other thing. I dont like to get carb cleaner on the rubber gaskets, especially on older ones. Seems to dry them out and they'll fail. Remove before cleaning, carefully with a razor blade

This video was perfect. Great combination of teaching the how and the why. How to do it with fewer tools in your belt. I have always been intimidated by the thought of cleaning a carburetor and you made the topic accessible. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I'm working on a Briggs 190cc that only starts when I spray a lirtle starting fluid in the carb. Then it starts and atays running. No primer plunger exists. Any helpful clues? Thank you!!!
