It’s beautiful. So unique and these usually have such a warm tone.

Chickerings all seem to have a certain antique ethereal sound to them. Closer to a European piano than most American pianos. A shame that they are largely ignored, Chickering turned 200 years old last year. Thank you for saving this beauty!

What a nice little "Art Case" Chickering. Nice!

Jonas Chickering inovations include diagonal bass strings I believe, the single cast Iron frame, the treble bell. I had one of his experiments with 88 keys a 6' but an extra wide body to accommodate an extra wide soundboard.

Chickering was one of the many American piano companies from that time period of the19th and early20th century. The restored Chickering’s that I’ve heard on KZbin for the most part have a pleasing overall sound. The cabinet on this particular instrument is beautiful. Have you considered a satin finish French polishing method that will further enhance the beautiful grain and allow it’s presence to be more readily seen past a high gloss finish?

I have a 5 foot 8 inch Chickering from the 1880’s. I had it restored and it sounds great. I’m not sure where to find the serial #.

I am trying to find a good home for a 1904 French Provincial Baby Grand Chickering & Son Piano #104557. George R Searle lived in the house we bought and he said his mother had moved the piano from their much larger house where she grew up and where it was in the music room. They were part of the G.D. Searle Pharmaceutical Co. that was later sold to Pfizer. He said they had an artist come in and paint the piano and the piano still has the original paint. When i got the piano in 1977 i thought i would strip and stain it dark but the refinisher i called refused to touch it after inspecting it. He said that he thought a very good artist painted the piano which made it very unusual and gave the piano its character. It is truly a beautiful piece. If you know of someone who may be interested or how i go about finding that home, please let me know. S
