I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up listening to Bright Eyes. I remember the original felt like it voiced my pain at the time. This is a wonderful, well rounded new version of this song. Still painful and emotionally but more mature as well. Bright Eyes constantly makes me fall in love with their music with each new release.

Fevers and Mirrors is still my favorite Bright Eyes album. It's a rare kind of album that is perfect all the way through, not one weak song. It's also their most raw and emotional album and despite being depressing it is so cathartic to listen to.

God.... When I first heard this back in 2000 at 19 years old that final line sounded so dark and full of pain and suffering and I pondered it myself many times. And now it's completely transformed and instead of the ponderous and brooding dark question which might even be dangerous to answer, it instead is no longer even really a question but instead an encouragement to hope and live

interesting take - and i envy your perspective, as mine was a big cringe at this release. Felt like a perversion of a classic quintessential bright eyes track, and raw emotional folk song of my childhood. I'm not a purist, I was excited to hear a re-imagining of a classic but boy did this miss the mark for me. Felt super lackluster, but i suppose Ive just grown in a different direction than conor and most current fans.

Idk it's lacking the raw Emotion that was captured perfectly in the original version. It's cool that they redid it.. it's not horrible. But it's not better than the original. It's like he took all the angst out of the song and this song is one of the most angsty! It encompasses The angst that is Bright eyes! Without angst there is no Bright eyes. Sorry, Phoebe I love you you sounded great on the hook. But if it's not broken don't fix it. I love you bright eyes so much you've got me through life and I will always love you guys but this, idk.

totally.. the og had a raw expression of teenage existentialism, wrapped up in a flawless folksy production - this one sounds like grown man depression wrapped up in a lame attempt at an electro-folk production.. not the same appeal LOL

Yes - this is totally spot on. It's a nice cover. pleasant. but the original rips and screams - and this one doens't. perhaps the mid-life chilled version.

@@paulpicu7932 lol 😂 mid life chilled version..I miss angry angsty ruminations/desaparecidos Conor..or I'd be happy with another 'noise floor' (cause we all know there's a vault somewhere where he is hoarding his songs that don't make the records).. perhaps even a live album / DVD package of performance. These are the bright eyes things I need in my life! I can totally do without this. And I'm very upset that all the venues close to me for the new dates are vaccine required.
