Excellent summation of a groundbreaking engineering feat that is a worthy successor to those developed on the Key West Extension over a century ago. Would like to think Henry Flagler would be well and truly pleased that the FEC heritage is being continued!

Amazing video and technology, I wish the whole project took the time that this tunnel took.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the length of the new tunnel segment underneath the existing highway determined by the future expansion of the highway to three lanes in each direction? If so, this was a brilliant piece of advanced thinking by the planners, which they should be commended for.

Yes, it was built with the state road 528 widening in mind.

@@RoamingRailfan Did brightline have to pay more for the extra tunneling, or did FDOT cover it?
@jimmyjohn8008
@jimmyjohn8008 3 жыл бұрын
@@SquickersKingdom probably not, surprised FDOT allowed it, but brightside has to pay for lost of toll revenue.

This was an engineering marvel. I saw a single ring being installed at the Other 528 tunnel at I-95

Wow. This was super interesting to watch. Modern engineering- its amazing what can be built in a short amount of time. Thank you for ur time recording this part and all your videos of the Brightline construction.

In one news article they said that it was wide enoigh for three tracks. Accounting for slightly banked tracks seeing as this tunnel is placed in a curved section, I was sceptical. But comparing it to the space needed for two side by side tracks running under the viaduct maybe they were right.
@RoamingRailfan

It is wide enough for two tracks

Very cool process! But what's the advantage of box jacking rather than just installing half the tunnel at a time while that half of the roadway is closed?
@RoamingRailfan
@RoamingRailfan 3 жыл бұрын
Time. This was done in less than a month with only a few night time road closures while a traditional method doing half of the road at a time would take more than a year and disrupt traffic the whole time.

What’s the deal with brightline? Why are no trains running? If anything they run a more hygienic train than the tri-rail. Not that it’s an issue for them but god they much be loosing some money. I see no reason why they can’t be running from WPB to Miami.
@RoamingRailfan

They are using this time to install a new positive train control system, which has to be operational before they can resume service.
