Why do you come out so far on a short corner? I usually just take 2 big steps early on then stand still and be ready for whatever shot is coming my way. I feel that if you walk almost entirely to the penalty dot you won't have as much time to react to the ball. Your opinion Alex?

So annoyingly I know I do this, however I find it really difficult to change. I never seem to be set for the shot

Alex Witty That never seem to be set for the shot part probably comes from the fact that you aren't standing still, what I was taught by professionals is that you need to stand still the moment they shoot. Also when running back to your goal you gotta make sure the moment they try and shoot you stand still in the normal goalie position. If you your balance could be weird and thus fail at making that save

Hi both, I know a few of the young goalies at my club have been to session run by Maddie Hinch quite recently and she reportedly told them that on shorts they should hold back on stepping out so that they are still moving forward when the shot comes in. That also goes against what I was taught as a kid but food for thought perhaps? I was taught that you should take a couple out steps out and be set for the shot as well.

I think you're maybe trying too hard to make a big save. You might be moving on the shot because you're trying too hard to anticipate it. So you're on the move because of where you think the shot is going rather than waiting to where it does go. Sometimes you're making spectacular saves when the ball is close to you because you were initially moving the wrong way. If you stood still and watched they'd quite easy. But then maybe you'd not get some of the very difficult saves? A difficult choice sometimes

Short corners only have to say ready once and out once. It's very off putting for your team mates. You will find you will actually be ready for the short and set instead of still talking
