First impressions are supposed to be a glimpse into what someone is like, not a final call to who he or she truly is. Don’t let a first impression be the guiding point to someone's overall demeanor. Everyone deserves more than just an initial judgment call.
@24casfur
@24casfur 5 жыл бұрын
Loneranger Yes totally agree. if one can judge one that severely, then that only reflects that one needs to work on themselves. I learned this as a kid. I was once standing outside of my classroom and this other person said something mean about a new girl. And so I looked at this new girl and thought to myself she doesn’t seem so bad. And from that time on she was my best friend.. People who can pass judgement on first impressions and not like them are closer to bullies, in my opinion Honestly it’s a strength to be able to not pass those first impression judgement and find the good you like in that person, before.

I learned from this video that there is a lot of ways that people ruin their first meeting of someone. I found it interesting how little things such as chewing gum and your hand placement has a effect on people where they look at you differently if you do these things. One benefit of the material that is presented is that you learn that normal things you do in your culture such as certain greetings are not normal to do in other cultures, then you know not to do these certain things.

From watching this video, I learned about the many ways that a first impression can be ruined, from hand placement, to the way you dress. it has an impact on people where they look at you differently if you do these things. One of the benefits of the material presented is that you learn that normal things you do in your culture such as certain greetings are not normal in other cultures, then you know not to do those certain things. This video will help draw attention to actions you may not be aware of, so you can prepare for your next interaction with someone. First impressions are very important, especially when you are applying for a job. This is also important when you communicate with other people.

Regarding remembering names, I believe it is important to make certain you hear and understand the name when introduced. Some people say their names quickly or in a noisy room, so it's easy to misunderstand it. I like to make a point of spelling it mentally to help remember it, and if I didn't catch it the first time, I might ask again; I figure this also shows that I care enough to get it right. If it's just someone trying to sell my something in which I have no interest, then I don't really care if I hear it properly.

When I forget people's names, which I do all the time, I ask them and apologize for forgetting later, and I try to use their name in a sentence, even if its awkward, it helps remembering a name if you use it. Its extremely common to forget names when you meet so many people in college or a new social community, so I think, for those that are aware of that, can be more forgiving. Or it can be considered honorable or make things easier between people when you are open and admit your accident. Lets other people know they don't have to keep some perfect image cause their acquaintance doesn't seem to hold themselves to that pressure either.

Me too. I don't know why, coz I've got a pretty good memory in all other respects, just, for some obscure reason, I'll forget names in seconds. I think the tip about repeating the name is a good one. The only other thing I can suggest is to try and come up with a mnemonic image: eg if you've been introduced to someone called Rob, imagine them robbing someone, or being robbed. We are visual animals, so that technique is quite effective.

eye contact is good. but do not overlook at someone's eye. it shows you are faking it. if there is 2 interviewers in the room... take turns to look at each of them when you speak / answer. one more thing- smile sometimes not all the time. good luck

From watching this video, I learned about many ways you can ruin a first impression, from the placement of your hands, to the way you dress. I found it interesting that small everyday actions can have a large impact of someone's impression of you. Just shaking someone's hand for a second too long can affect how the other person may view you. This video will help bring attention to actions that you may not even notice yourself, so you can be prepared for your next interaction with someone. Just having a firm handshake, more eye contact, and being on time are all positive actions that will benefit you next time you have a date or even a job interview.

James Ryzlot yes, many people fail to realize there are medical issues that can cause some things that people view at first impressions. I’ve had back surgery. I have nerve damage. I get very cold and shaky which people see and assume it’s out of nervousness. However, it’s not. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been easy to find a job because of that as they assume I’m just incredibly nervous. It’s not always what people think it is.

I've always had trouble remembering people's names the first time I met them. So I would do is repeat their names a few times and let them know why. Great ice breaker plus we all get a laugh.
