Thanks for this game! I am big fan of David Navara! He is a wonderful person, probably the nicest guy who has played the game😊

Other than Daniel, of course 😊

Spassky actually won the nicest chess player award, but stepped down so that Navara could have the award
@michaelblankenau6598Ай бұрын
I disagree . Our club has a player named Steve Abernathy who would Navara look like a crotchety misanthrope .

I loved that game by Navara!!! Thanks for sharing...

Now it's perhaps the best time to come out with something: I'm one of very few people in the world, yet among his compatriots, having a positive bilance with David! Indeed, I played a single game with him when he was something like 6 years old. I won in king's gambit with white :)

“…that doesn’t matter, this is still a human game…”; quite so Danny and ,in this case , played with real panache . Thanks for the upload. Tim

Oh my, not one but two queen sacs. Nice game by Navara. It seems like it's been a little while since he's been featured. Not getting the invitations to the big events like he used to.

I first saw Navara at Wijk Aan Zee in 2004 and he looked so young then but played some fireworks over the board.

Instead of the superb 17. d5 I thought just 17. Bxe7 Bxe7 18. Rc7 won, but an engine showed me 18. ... Qb4 and after the captures the White rook is struggling to survive on c6.

Always been a fan of Navara since I saw him at Tata Steel in Holland. He has some magnificent tactical games.
@khurrambaig4954Ай бұрын
Well, "that doesn't matter, it's still a human game" is a great comment. In fact imaginative play and tactical play has been affected by too much theory and chess engines. That's why these two brilliant games (Navara V Shawn, Erigaisi V Peter) are so refreshing. Nicely covered by Mr. KING as always 👍

While I could intuitively find d4-d5 ( TBH, I didn't find what to do against Bxd5), the other move c2-c3 was literally impossible to find for me!

@giovannicorno1247Ай бұрын
Instructive and elegant attack, very well explained! About Erigaisi, he is in the top 5 now but the chess community is rude with him, not inviting him in great tournaments. I really wonder why?!
@PowerPlayChessАй бұрын
Tournament invitations are sent out well in advance. His rise has been rapid. I don’t see it as more than that.

I just watched Ukraine winning against USA live here in Budapest. From so far away, it took me 20 minutes to figure out where they were playing. The visitor "Grandstand" is ridiculously placed at the Kenya,-Suriname-and-Namibia end of the hall. Only when Ponomariov stood up after his draw and put on one of his stylish coats I started to figure out where the Ukrainians were.
@MattduCouloirАй бұрын
That Ba4 and not taking on c6 represents so much what you have to unlearn at some point. You learn to not enter such complications as an amateur player to not get your pieces trapped. Seems like the little extra that my chess needs right now.

"Zwischenshach" or "Zwischenzug"?
@PowerPlayChessАй бұрын
This was a Zwischenschach which is also a Zwischenzug! One is more specific than the other...
@paulgoogol2652Ай бұрын
these french type positions are so exciting. white often has to play very energetic and creatively while black just plays solid moves and finish development. just far easier to play. but given the time for calculations white may have a fantastic game like this game of Navara. I never understood these Bb5 ideas. they remove pressure from the center but you can never play Bxc6 without losing most initiative so the game will fizzle and dry out getting very dull. but this bishop was just there to put constant pressure on blacks center. but of course this is not a french game. the abscence of the black bishop on d7 was felt at all times.

Navara played like stockfish in that game, with 98% accuracy. Navara is a strong player but not usually this strong.

Wasn't Kramnik accusing him? Cheating? Navara is one of the nicest guys in the chess world, high class chess player, just a joy to watch, but not the best guy to fight against weird and ruthless defamation. Great that he showed his class there again. Some other guys should be banned, not matter if they've been world champion.
@petrnovak2293Ай бұрын
