Unfortunately so many who comment slate the MDP officers without understanding their role at Horse Guards , and that they are MDP , they seem to believe the officers should be outside keeping the tourons away from the horse and Trooper at all times ! I continually read " where are the police ? " the police do nothing , just stand in a group and talk ! " " police are lazy " , I'm afraid that really annoys me , these men and women do a great job, under at times difficult situations , if ever there was an incident involving security ( heaven forbid !) they would be on it in a flash that's what they are trained for ! So I'll echo the thanks wholeheartedly , I hope John can pass our appreciation on to them .

John has had a couple of very edifying chats with the MoD officers in the yard that we have been very lucky to have been made privy to(with the officers full knowledge) These guys see so much stupid in a day it’s scary, and they operate on a far different set of parameters than most people think. They have great pride in their work tho, just like the soldiers do, and they take it very seriously, and I find it very reassuring that they’re there. Seeing particular officers on duty just makes my day, just as seeing certain favourite horses or troopers or NCO’s/Officers does. I don’t know their names, nor anything about them, nor SHOULD I(other than some are horse people…..but you’d know that just by watching for a while)but I know that they’re there, doing their jobs, and that’s enough.

It's so good to hear the police's side on this and how tough it can be for them a lot of the time. They do a stand up job, which I know I wouldn't be able to do, of crowd control amongst other things. The way the public behave is unbelievable at times and the police always manage to keep their cool and treat the public with respect. Well done to you all.

How refreshing to listen to that lovely policeman explaining the hazards of policing the yard. It's incredibly hard and frustrating to watch the ignorance of people who have no knowledge of the significance of the duties of the King's guards or even believe they're troupers! If the Army is so against any type of change to protect their troupers and the horse troupers, then may I suggest a few hours each day in the yard may change their opinion. We all see events differently sitting behind a desk. As an ex-civil servant who crossed the yard almost daily over a number of years I can't believe the Army is shutting its eyes on a serious situation waiting to happen. I'm so proud of the police officers, the troupers, horse troupers who daily have to face this tourist entourage. I just hope the Army will listen and read my amongst others concerns.

John, I have talked to you before. I’m Lisa, from middle Tennessee. I just love you to death. You are the kindest sweetest person. You are so very considerate and helpful to strangers, like telling her the horses name, telling tourists what is going on. You are the real. A genuine fellow that doesn’t mince words. You say the truth, whether people like it or not. You say what we are all thinking. “Oh, here come the clowns”. I just died laughin’. If you act like a fool, expect to be called out, huh? I was born in ‘62, and everything was “Yes Ma’am, No Sir, Thank You”. And, how to be respectful and compassionate to people. I think that with these younger people, social media has influenced them to be self- centered, with no morals or ethics. They have clue how to approach a strange horse. They are more concerned with getting that perfect picture that they refuse to take sense that the horse is feeling crowded, or just overwhelmed with all the the stimuli around him/ her. You have earned the trust of the staff, and that speaks a lot about your character. You provide me with alot of entertainment, and I appreciate it. God bless you, and I pray he watches over you on your trip. Have fun in Paris!! We’ll miss you. Take care.

Hi, really enjoy watching your videos. Heard your question about the rank for the COH. I checked Wikipedia and this is what's mentioned. Corporal of horse (CoH) is a rank in the British Army's Household Cavalry corresponding to sergeant in other regiments. That's why he has 3 chevrons on his uniform.

Nice video John! As a millennial, we often used peace signs to look less stiff in photos lol. Peace signs, thumbs up etc. look more expressive (of happiness/excitement) to me than just standing normally with no embellishments. Also I’ve seen you ask what a particular finger gesture somewhat common with East Asians is, the one that kind of looks like this🤞🏽but with the thumb & index finger. It’s a mini heart! ❤️ nothing bad.

Demands? Hopefully demands get short shrift, John…..polite requests on the other hand are a different matter. It’s actually nice to see it a little quieter insofar as mad scrums around the horses goes. You’ll be in Paris by now I’d imagine so I hope(in my best officer Crabtree) “ze ‘oliday is, ‘ow you say, magnifique” and thank you for all the extra footage to tide us addicts over😉😂 What on earth is this thing for shrugging halfway out of your cardigan for pictures?? I mean……why??🤷😳it just looks like you’re wearing someone else’s clothes and they don’t fit!! 🤯And I don’t think the admiralty building is at ALL grotty….I think it’s a lovely building, and ofc HorseGuards itself is stunning!!! Grotty indeed…….people are silly😜 oh and I couldn’t help but overhear the comment about applause and I’m 101% with you John. You applaud a “performance”. This is not performance, ergo no applause is required or desired. This is officers and soldiers doing their jobs…..yes admire it, yes enjoy watching it, but don’t imagine it’s for the benefit of tourists. The few times I’ve seen it happen(applause)it was seriously cringeworthy. Virbious’ replacement was Warlord…..yeah got it right😂😎 Yeah those very narrow little markings around the hoof top are called coronet markings John, well done👍and the black spotting is called “ermine” Some horses don’t like having their girths tightened cos they’re ticklish so it’s easier to do theirs part tight then finish it when the riders weight is in the saddle.

❤❤ London City Walk, here's my thought on HorseGuards, I don't think the Tourists realise that it is a Military Base. Their really isn't any signs displayed, I believe if known maybe behaviours by the Public would dramatically change. They have to "Tourists" realise Troopers in the boxes are working Soldiers, and Troopers in the Arches are working Soldiers. Maybe some signs will make a big difference, maybe to dispel Stupidity from HorseGuards forever.😂 Though Soldiers can Shout and Troopers Nip and Bite, maybe a few kicks as well. Don't think I've ever seen a Trooper giving a good kicking🤣🤣🤣🤣🇦🇺❤️🇬🇧⚔️🛡️🪖🥰👍

Well, you were right, John, they DID change to summer order the minute you weren't there, meaning, on Sunday🤣 But...the only consolation on that particular day is that i noticed (from watching other channels) they didn't stay too long on guard schedule because....there were some festivities (not a protest) in the street right next to Horse Guards. So they took the horses out and they left just the gateman and the chitsman on post. So poor Lifeguards actually brought both kits with them on Friday, the winter order and the summer one 🥺On Monday, they switched regiments, the Blues&Royals came prepared in the summer order and they looked very nice. You'll see all of them when you come back😊. There was some commotion with a Gaza protest on Monday ("Youth against genocide"was written on a huge front board they were carrying with them and Gaza flags) that came from the back, right through the arches and into the courtyard at Horse Guards, then exited through the main gates and they turned towards 10 Downing Street. They weren't a large group, maybe 100? with double the number of policemen. And they agreed to not shout anything while passing by the horse on the left box. That was a sight to see. Your favourite COH was there, managing everything with the tourists, the guards, the policemen, the horses, etc.Have fun in France!😀Bon courage!

About those guys with the tripod getting kicked out yesterday (which video I can't find today), those tripods are a hazard in a crowded area. Nothing to do with weapons. They are so easy to trip over because the legs are widely spread. They are not stable. And heaven help a spooked horse getting tangled up in it. Police were absolutely right to tell them no! When I worked at a park, all tripods were strictly prohibited during public hours.

Just in the last 5 years or so, they seem as you said John, very self-centered. I thought about it and I wonder if the virus had anything to do with this change in people or if it is, as someone said, the over use of the Internet. Sigh... Yes, I am getting old! I don’t think there is a big deal in the Corporal of Horse coming out and checking on the boxmen. We have seen this many times before. It’s called supervision. The only difference is that this time he was in full dress uniform with very smart drill movements; whereas in the past they have always appeared in undress (blue) uniform and went about their duty in a far more relaxed manner, often talking to the tourists. They often turned out if a box man hit the emergency button but more often than not this was delegated to a stableman. It is possible that a directive has been issued very high up, that this duty has to be done more, shall we say, formally than before. We shall have to watch this space.

FYI the French inspection I just saw, elsewhere, was part of the anniversary of the Entente Cordiale, signed Apr. 8, 1904. A troop of our Grenadier Guards performed in Paris.

Poor fox .. they carnt surely be making another mission impossible film or was the police man being sarcastic. Lovely to see another curious horse keeping the tourists on their toes , I saw a KZbin short where one of the horses took out a man's bottle of water from his back pack , so funny , hope you a nice time in Paris see you soon .

I just think they should just close the gate for tourists so they can’t enter. And place some barriers around the guard on a horse? Why is this place open for public if it’s so important and needs to be respected. Protect from dumb tourists!

Well John , hope you're having a great time in Paris & all you meet believe in our Entente Cordiale . However I watched the coverage of the ceremonies in either country & , although I was very proud watching both, got to say, the London one was far away the best, mainly because the French ceremony was held in a practically empty & comparatively narrow main street in Paris , poor showing but the troops on both sides were very, very smart & I enjoyed both . Still, not everyone has the Mall & Buckingham Palace I guess 🎉❤

I really dont understand why people invade the Horse and Guards space, plenty of room for photos...they should stand with respect at the side ...It seems some people the Horse will tolerate, must have an inner sense...certainly gets agrravated at some...

I know this might sound ridiculous Maybe they need someone at each guard to direct people so it's not all over the place and to tell them to stand a certain distance and not to touch the reigns

‘ Floor’ is for inside a building or a manmade surface. ‘ Ground’ is the surface of the Earth ie anywhere outside a building or not a manmade surface. Floor was the word for ground, centuries ago but now we differentiate. I hadn’t realised that the British usage was different to others. Interesting !

Mechanical Efficiency: For mechanical efficiency, opposite arms usually swing with each leg while marching. British and Commonwealth armed forces keep their arms straight and swing the hand as high as the shoulder while moving forward and, in theory, to the level of the belt when moving backward123. So, next time you see British soldiers on parade, their synchronized arm swings contribute to both discipline and practicality! 🇬🇧💂‍♂
