What a palaver. A kludge. A conventional mini pump with screw-on attachments to fit a bike frame - albeit with narrow tubes. - like 99% of pumps. Difficult to see how ‘collaboration’ with Brompton’ played any serious part: the existing brazings are simply ignored. I am a Lezyne fan, and I always take one of their mini track pumps on long Brompton tours. Had they produced a model which clipped into the existing Brompton brackets I would have bought one. I’m on my 9th Brompton in 25 years and have become accustomed to differentiating the truly useful and original design elements from the piffle, like this.

I’ve been using a smaller Lezyne pump on my Nine Streets, with the removable flexy hose, and always found this to better then the original Brompton pump. I’ve kept it in my saddle bag. But this is a better way to use the original pump space, with a much better pump! Well done Brompton, and Lezyne for working this out! And we’ll done Mrs Brilliant for this and your other reviews 👏👏🙏

It took me forever to find a Brompton pump because everything was in short supply and now they come out with a better one. Damn you Brompton ❗️ Actually the Lezyne is a huge upgrade over the prehistoric Zefal. That pump gave you a strenuous workout just to reach 50psi 🥵 My arms still sore from last time I used it❗️ I have an awesome Lezyne pump on my road bike that works like a mini floor pump . Has the hose a foot peg and gauge. Get a flat on a cold day and you will worship that pump❗️

I'm new to Bromptons and reading the instructions on that pump box made me laugh and scream in equal measure. In the end I just ignored it and figured it out myself. I'm convinced whoever wrote and designed them had a lot of free time on their hands and made it sounds as complicated as possible just for a laugh. Quite brilliant, really - it's as if it was designed by the same old fella who wrote 1970s Haynes manuals.

Plastic threads.. unlike the Lezyne branded pumps on the shelf next to it that are all cast aluminum construction, the female threaded fitting on the pump body (the end where the air comes out) that accepts the ABS hose has soft plastic threading that was easily damaged by the metal threads of the flex tubing. Buyer beware, hopefully this gets addressed in a future revision.

I just bought the Brompton Lezyne pump, and found that the 7" width of the inner box wasn't sufficient to allow fitting the pump when fully compressed. I had to increase the distance to almost 7.2". Using the pump to determine the distance between clamps works, of course, but I wonder why my pump doesn't compress as much as it apparently should.

The original pumps still work perfectly well for what they are (emergency pumps) and the brompton C line frames still have the fitting for them built into the rear triangle Brompton are also still currently selling the old pump The 2 speed (urban) and 3 speed (utility) no longer come with a pump So you could choose to buy an "old style" Zefal or "new style" Lezyne - and they would both do the job So currently they are not as far as we know discontinued or selling in bulk or as collectors items on e-bay

This seems to have the common shortcoming of portable pumps in that it lacks an integrated pressure gauge. With the screw on valve fitting, trying to achieve the right pressure would be annoying (remove hose while twirling the attached pump, fit gauge, remove, replace hose, pump some more, etc). So this pump looks ok for roadside top ups but you’d want a floor pump for regular use. While it’s fine if the pump is included with the bike, I’m honestly not sure why one would buy this aftermarket vs. a CO2 inflator at a fraction the weight, size, and effort.
@brilliantbikes
@brilliantbikes 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching - and great comments We agree - this would be an emergency pump (for roadside repair) - and would always recommend a track pump for checking / regular top-ups at home We guess the benefit of this / the original Brompton pump is that they would always be on the bike - we've gone out riding before and forgotten the CO2 (Mountain biking that is) We also haven't tried using CO2 on a Brompton - not sure how much volume of air/CO2 it needs compared to a road bike (quite a lot less we think) - anyone have experience of this?

It would be interesting for you to pump the tyres as hard as you can, then use a gauge to check the actual pressure. I am not convinced that you could even achieve 100 psi let alone their claimed maximum. Now that’s a challenge for you.

Thanks for watching, Now that is a great idea - how about this .... Install an in-line pressure gauge on a tube (we can only find for Presta valve - but don't think that should make that much difference) Pump using the old pump Pump using the new pump Pump using an alternative with a built in pressure gauge and see how accurate it is Pump using a track pump Pump using a CO2 cartridge and for each one also check with a digital gauge?

@WackySchmackyO

@@NoZenith I personally feel it would not be very elegant (not a very Brompton solution) for current Brompton owners with older models to install this second pump top of the existing pump just to have an emergency pump that can get over 50psi.... I don't know what's better/worse, to have a blank dedicated pump bracket or have both pump installed!
@NoZenith
@NoZenith 2 жыл бұрын
@@WackySchmackyO did you watch the video? You don't install this over the existing pump, you remove the existing pump that doesn't work well and replace with this. Yes less elegant than the existing spring-loaded pump that fits in dedicated brasings but much more functional. If you can only get to 50 pounds after struggling, most people won't get anywhere above 45lb which isn't even half what the average recommended pressure would be for an adult

@@NoZenith of course I have mate! I don't mean literally top 🤣. Again just a personal opinion. Just a bit ugly to have both pumps or empty brackets. Lose the Brompton OEM feel! I would not care as the pump to me is for emergencies!

@@WackySchmackyO I just worry about creating another flat/ ruining the wheel. I mostly ride in cities and we have pretty terrible roads around here so there are a lot of imperfections whether you're jumping a curbe or hitting a pothole or just the gaps in the sidewalk where it's heaved, I am not a heavy Rider but it still recommended for somebody at my weight to ride on the Marathon Racers around 80 PSI. I got a Crank Brothers klic HP but it doesn't seem to be working. I need to contact them because it took an additional month-and-a-half to get my bike and I think I'm outside the return window of the shop I bought it at. Sad that I'm going to be the first negative review on what is otherwise a rather ingenious pump that everyone seems to love.

The new Brompton pump has a metal thread on each end of the tube to fit into a plastic thread in the pump body. No matter how carefully I try to screw the tube into the pump it almost always begins to cross-thread and tears at the first part of the plastic thread. Obviously I use very light pressure and unscrew the tube straight away but little by little damage is being done each time I try to fit the tube. Not something I would want to try in the dark with cold fingers after an unfortunate puncture. Update: I reported this to Brompton and they sent me a new one which does not have this problem. I was worried that a metal on plastic thread design was going to be an issue every time but I must have just had a faulty item.

I was irritated on the auto valves and has changed the tubes with normal valves - Blitz/Dunlop valves.

Many thanks for watching. If you have changed from schrader valves to presta valves I hope you have used an adapter to fill the hole in the rim. Otherwise you risk the inner tube ripping.

@@brilliantbikes I really don't like Auto- or Presta valves. On my other bike I have changed from Presta to ordinary bicycle valve - Dunlop. I had flat tyre with Presta but coulnd't open it to fill the tube with reparation liquid 😞

Very bad, feels cheap, all the water, rain, mud, gets inside of it, and it’s terrible, piece of advice, buy something else, there’s better products for half that price.
