It's the high handlebar option that I love about my C-line. There's just something calming about peddling around the countryside and being able to see to the sides and not being head down, focussed on the tarmac. Shame the G-line didn't offer this option ie a more suitable country track bike with a more relaxed, configuration.

I tried the different g lines at the Brompton Junction shop in Covent Garden. The M size felt right and the L size too big with my 182cm height just sitting on the bike in the shop. That said when then riding the bikes I would definitely go for the L version. I currently use a C line with high handlebars and like a slightly more upright position when cycling. So one definitely has to try the bike. Even a short ride will help!

Well done for your effort in doing this. Makes me glad I bought my most recent Brompton from you! I expect to do the same for an electric G Line as well - even though I live in a different part of the country. From the point of view of leg length, I assume I'd be a natural for the Medium (6 ft tall, just). But I'd like the longest reach, so presumably I should get a large? As you say, though. I need to try.
@brilliantbikes3 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! It was so hard to show the difference, so we really ended up saying it’s best to try them! But if you want the longest reach then yes it’s large!
@apaul97763 күн бұрын
@@brilliantbikes Thanks for the prompt reply. Will be in touch in the near future. One point - the electric set up looks a bit dated to me with the absence of a large on handlebar display. Also, the lack of choice on the battery size seems restrictive. For example, Swytch offer two sizes. Surely a modular battery arrangement would be better. Why carry the weight of a large battery on short rides? I'd be interested in your thoughts on the electric G Line. I still want one, but I'm not sure they have quite sorted it?
@brilliantbikes3 күн бұрын
Thanks! Hmmm! Im currently undecided about the electric, the motor kicks in when you have pedalled hard, so not ideal if on a hill and a weak rider, the battery is a little noisy. The battery does have a larger capacity than the C line. It is also heavy at 20kg ish with the battery. But our demo is pre-production, so fingers crossed for the real version

Thank you for filling the gaps for and giving practical examples and the stellar visual. I was a bit confused about the numbers you showed for the G-Line reach in your charts (where the S has the longest reach) on the brompton charts the L has 502mm. But then again it is all so close that it seems to come down to personal feel. Sitting up right is no option anymore on the big boy bike, maybe thats the best for the intended use.

For C-line bikes, the best fit for me was High bar BUT angle it slightly (1-2cm) toward me, which gave a comfortable UPRIGHT riding position. So G-line would definitely be, as for C-line, go try it yourself... especially if you prefer riding in a more upright postion. My back and wrists no long appreciate long rides leaning forward on the hands.

Certainly got that video taped , is it possible to fit the new rear triangle of the G- Line to a C- line so one would be able to get the advantages of the Alfine hub ? Or is it possible to fit the Alfine hub into the original C - Line triangle ? Somewhat curious of the measurement of either the G - line triangle or the dimensions of the hub , hope my questions measured up to you expectations , G , I hope so
@user-zw6pn3ql7y3 күн бұрын
Q: "Is it possible to fit the Alfine hub into the original C-Line triangle" A: No it isn't. The classic Brompton uses a narrower hub than regular bicycles. The G-Line uses a wider hub than the classic Brompton. The G-Line uses the same width for the rear hub as regular bicycles. That's why the Alfine hub (and the Rohloff hub) will fit a G-Line but will not fit a classic Brompton (C-Line, P-Line, T-Line, Black Edition etc). That's another reason why the folded package of the G-Line is bigger (wider) than the folded package of the classic Brompton. (There are third party vendors which will sell you a rear triangle for the classic Brompton which will accommodate regular width rear hubs (Alfine, Rohloff), for example "Kinetics")
@wild-riding3 күн бұрын
About size, would it be possible to compare the bikes when folded? Especially regarding limitations on airlines standards. Is a suitcase for the G-line in the pipe? Is the bike steady when folded or does it require an extended wheel as on the C-line? And last question about tyres, I saw that there was a Marathon plus tyre for the G-line but I can't figure out how it compares to the standard tyre. I would be interested in a comparaison, and if the g-line equiped with a Marathon plus is relevant compared to a c-line. My usage is in central Africa, with mostly urban mud road, flooded roads, and sometimes on sand tracks. Even my Marathon plus suffer a lot... Several punctures a year and new tyres changed every year...
@user-zw6pn3ql7y3 күн бұрын
Since a folded classic Brompton (as well as the cardboard box) "just" ("barely") fits into the maximum size for regular airline baggage ("62 linear inches") my guess is that the folded package of the G-Line is probably too large for a "regular" checked bag. However I'm really interested in this so if you know more please comment below:

@@user-zw6pn3ql7y Would be good to know. However, as my c-line is a squeeze in the boot of my small car I suspect the G-line would only be possible with the seats down...

@@barryedge4446 The Brompton G-line video shows a rider putting a folded G into the boot of a Volvo V70 estate, so for a hatchback you’d probably need to remove the rear parcel shelf and possibly turn the nose of the saddle to point over the rear seats. I used to have an 11-reg Ford Fiesta and the boot wasn’t deep enough to lay my folded H6R flat (either across length or width), so I removed the shelf and bungee’d it to the isofix anchors on the back of the seats. In contrast, I now have a 19-reg Honda Jazz and can lay my folded H6R flat on a foam pad and bungee it to the 4-corner anchor points on the floor in an X shape with two suitably load-rated straps.

Stack and reach are normally measured vertically and horizontally from the centre of the bottom bracket to the centreline of the top of the head tube on standard bikes, not the centre of the handlebars. Given the Brompton design though it would make no sense to measure them that way.
@voodoopupp2 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing this great content - but I think you have a mistake in the Stack on C-Line: on High you say "85 cm or just under 26 inches" -> therefore it is not 85 cm, it should be then ~ 66 cm Otherwise it would be an incredible step from Mid to High 😉

As a Dane I bought my by then Top Brompton in 2019, but I was never alloved to select anything at all but the colour (black version, Flame Painted, with an M handlebar and H stem post) from the samples in the Shop, or to collect it from a Box, as I have only been shown what they had as samples in the - combined Bikeshop. So I was never able to Unpack Happines! I do think they had some different grade versions, some a little less expensive, but I hardly remember. But all with a long seat post though not a Telescope, which I later bought from You, also in a black version, as I didn't expect to be able to find one in the shop (I may have been wrong, but it is difficult to find parking space in Copenhagen, so I only visited them for my first Service)? It was just before Brexit that I got it delivered! Finn. Denmark
