Giving artist their publishing is a good deed, just a decade or two too late. The amount of revenue the artist can recoup now, compared to when the music was actually popping. The record label would make some type of deal, for a number of years, while the artist fulfills their contract obligations. It’s often was a matter of short term money, of hundreds of thousands to a million or so, up front, vs getting just enough to tour, and promote the music, while retaining the Masters and getting the majority of all publishing, for movies, commercials, series, etc.
