I remember the Hearse Song was my favorite song as a kid. At that time I found it weird whenever the other children would sing slightly different lyrics. Then I found out that there's actually quite a few variants of the song. I really wish I knew where the song originally came from, though I do know it was popularized by some books. Also I adore the costumes used in this video, just throwing that out there...
@Wh40kFinatic11 жыл бұрын
I remember this song from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. The artwork of those books were extremely creepy and horrifying, but they are what made those books. It upset me when they changed the art to make it more child-appropriate.

I know this comment is very old but for Christmas last year I got the complete series with the original illustrations . I thought the brought the old style back after some time because I saw the box set at barnes and nobles while we got Christmas presents.

This video would have been even better if they had used an old black hearse instead of that modern sterile-looking white one.
@brilligaustralia8 жыл бұрын
+Claude Hooper-Bukowski Yes, we completely agree. Unfortunately there were none to be found in South Australia, and the shoot didn't allow time to roll one over from Victoria. SIGHHHHHHHH. But rest assured, this is a real hearse, borrowed from a pal whose family own a funeral home...!

Or an actual hearse, you know, the kind before cars. The type that would actually suit the setting.
@laurenchamberlain47924 жыл бұрын
@@dr.lexwinter8604 gotta agree with you. I though it was going to be a horse-drawn hearse with a coffin inside. Was disappointed.

@@brilligaustralia Everyone's a critic. lulz ;-) I thought it was great, ESPECIALLY the end scene as the band's sauntering off after the hearse down that dusty ol' road towards the horizon after acknowledging another grim job well done & it cuts back to the gruesome sight of the townsfolk all layin' dead in the dirt together at the crossroads, the only sound to be heard is the dry breeze... & then a perfectly timed crow caw! Chef's kiss! :-D
@ThinkerOnTheBus3 жыл бұрын
Hear, hear!!! I can't believe they put that much effort into production of a video, and then they use out of date hearse. I was actually expecting to see one of those horse-drawn coach hearses, then that thing comes rolling in. Okay, it's fine that it is out of the period of its surroundings, but why not use a modern hearse that still has a definitive hearse appearance. That one in the video looked like a modern, but bland, grocery-getter station-wagon. Most station-wagons have more character than that vehicle. I owned a '65 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon once, and that had a hell of a lot more style, and character than whatever the hell they had in this video!!!

We know what you mean. We did deliberately want a motor vehicle as part of the irony that scares/entrances the folks, & in all honesty a 1950s black model would have been ideal (90s caddy sounds cool too!). None to be found in South Australia though. But fortunately our friend could hook us up with a ghostly grey one. Thanks for adding it to your VJ set! Much appreciated :)

They wrap you up in a big white sheet from your head down to your feet They put you in a big black box and cover you up with dirt and rocks All goes well for about a week Then your coffin begins to leak! The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out The worms play pinochle on your snout They eat your eyes, they eat your nose They eat the jelly between your toes The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out Be merry my friend be merry!”

It was the most hilarious thing hearing people go in to try the costumes on and then screaming when the skeleton would dance and sing unexpectedly. Thank you for making this video.
