(LYRICS BELOW this information) The Hearse Song (The Worms Crawl In) is an old children’s song dating back to before World War I. We first heard this song from our mom singing little bits and pieces that she remembered from her childhood. This piqued our interest and we started talking to relatives and doing research on the full lyrics and song origin. Interestingly, we found that there are no “set” lyrics, but only reoccurring words and themes. When telling our grandma about our newest arrangement, we were surprised to learn that she, too, learned a version of The Hearse Song when she was a child, which would have been over 80 years ago! In a way, this song is like “the telephone game” as over time children have changed and altered the lyrics so no version is the same. In fact, most people seem to have only learned one verse. We had so much fun picking our favorite lyrics… and even adding our own lyrics! We composed our own original musical intro, outro, and interlude and arrangement of the main melody to create a full and complex song for our harps and voices. We absolutely love how our arrangement and compositional additions turned out and we love performing this song at our live shows! *Our lyrics for "The Hearse Song (The Worms Crawl In)":* Don't ever laugh as a hearse goes by For you may be the next to die They wrap you up in a big white sheet From your head down to your feet They put you in a big black box And cover you up with dirt and rocks And all goes well for about a week And then your coffin begins to leak And the worms crawl in, the worms crawl out The worms play pinochle on your snout They eat your eyes, they eat your nose They eat the jelly between your toes There is something soft and green Puss comes out like whipping cream You spread it on a slice of bread And that’s what you eat when you're dead Your chest caves in, your eyes pop out Your brain turns to sauerkraut And the worms crawl in, the worms crawl out The worms crawl over the dead man’s snout They eat your eyes, they eat your nose They eat the jelly between your toes And the worms crawl out, the worms crawl in The worms that crawl in are lean and thin The ones that crawl out are fat and stout Your eyes fall in, your hair falls out They invite their friends, and their friends too They all come down to chew on you And the worms crawl in, the worms crawl out The worms play pinochle on your snout They eat your eyes, they eat your nose They eat the jelly between your toes But at first you weren’t really gone, You could hear the mourning song. You yank the rope to ring the bell You call for God and you curse hell So this is what it is to die, I hope you had a nice goodbye Did you ever think as a hearse goes by That you might be the next to die?

Camille and Kennerly I got the chills with this song, especially the part “you yank the rope to ring the bell you call for god and you curse hell”. I’m not ready to die but May blessings come before that happens.🙏🏻

It’s interesting that your research didn’t turn up an “official” version for this-I nominate these lyrics! 🙂 Seriously, many of these lines sound familiar to me, and the way you arrange it just flows perfectly. It really feels like this is how it’s meant to be. And you nailed the tune, spooky yet beautiful when performed on twin harps 🧡🖤

At my cousin's funeral, the guy driving the family limousine was a friend I hadn't seen in years. I thought that I'd seen another friend on the street so I tapped the driver on his shoulder. When I did that,he let out a blood curdling scream & drove off the road into a yard. When he'd calmed down a little,he explained that lately, he'd been driving the hearse with the dearly departed more than the limousine with the grieving family inside.

At this point in your 11th, on the way to the Twelfth year of your Marvelous | Professional | Career you should already be... Grammy Winners, at least... once. «So many Performers already have it without such a career.» What you did and have done until now & will continue to do for the Harp, an instrument So RICH but at the same time so poor at the eyes of the 'weak', that every single composition you so generously present to us greatly increases the purity of... (such) instrument-sized sound! Therefore, once again... I carefully take my hat... DOWN, to the Ground... almost, and with a simpleton Bow, I bow down... to make another VOW... of... Purity, simplicity & GRANDIOSITY... and MAJESTY!! [To the fIELDS of GOLD on that adorable Saturday, November 16th of 2019 on that Chicago filled room... love was all around @ home & NEM - Nothing Else Matters] BUT...
