The guitarrist of every BMTH album Lee Malia, I feel like he's super underrated and almost overlooked. It's insane how he could play every genre that the band went through and how catchy the riffs he made are tbh

I love this album, would love to learn it on guitar and drums one day. Vocally, I don't have the skills, yet anyway 😂 Speaking of the vocals, one thing that might update your perspective is if you think of them as another form of distortion that adds to the effects of the guitars, instead of the 'traditional' vocals you might hear. Still, the more I listened to this album the more they grew on me. They're dirty and imperfect, which stands out to me. A track on their first EP called 'Who wants flowers when you're Dead? Nobody' is probably my favourite from them, vocally you might not be a fan, but instrumentally it's fucking awesome, I think :D

Seeing that you aren't a fan of Oli's old deathcore screams, it makes me quite curious what you think of Will Ramos from Lorna Shore. 07:14 even back then i would choose oli over any `better` singer without hesitation any day. without him the band would be nowhere near where they are today. and more importantly he is the reason why they evolution went into sempiternal, amo, nex gen and all the different genres. that was his vision for the band and he is the mind behind it all. :)) their history and passion is what makes this band so amazing and inspiring to so many people me included. and even with fry screaming and bad equipment, still their albums are more emotional and better than most of today's metal bands that try to copy sempiternal with their sound. oli is my idol. :)))
@ashlenamusic20 күн бұрын
Oh 💯. I think he is super talented and it’s insane to hear his vocal journey.
@Ryan-hj3pu20 күн бұрын
Going back and listening to these old albums is interesting. It really does sound pretty bad now, but man back in 2008 it was amazing. Its how most of these bands sounded quality-wise. I'm not sure if its the technology back then, being unable to afford good equipment and mixing, or just most of these vocalists not having training...but to be fair even still today they are doing studies on harsh vocals trying to better understand it (Will Ramos). Almost all of these guys back in the 2000s damaged their voices. I remember some bands I used to listen to on Myspace recording their albums with oldschool PC microphones lol.
@ashlenamusic20 күн бұрын
Oh I bet. I have to admit the mix of this album wasn’t bad at all it sounds great. I don’t blame these guys for damaging their vocals lol no body knew how to properly scream back then

Definitely check out their deathcore medley they played at some live shows a few years ago, a lot better sounding & with Oli showing he still has it ( so difficult to actually sound like that 🤣) fun fact as well this whole album was actually recorded with a broken guitar amp but none of them knew because they were so new to it all, but still turned out decent considering 🤣

Like I've said before, I prefer this album over Suicide Season. I want to say few things: 1. I have to disagree that Oli started as a bad screamer. He created this style of screaming, and for what he does and for the year this came out, -in which no one knew how to scream properly like this-, it sounds pretty good. Almost a decade of bad technique, constant goblin screaming and no aftercare as well as dealing with addiction and depression, messed up his chords for good. In suicide season ongoing, you can visibly see him touching his throat singing live because he's in pain. He's mentioned throwing up blood after live performances. Unfortunately, if you go back to seeing performances from that era until a few years ago, it's very clear how bad he messed his voice. Overall I think with Oli's voice, people love it so much for other sentimental reasons that have very little to do with him being a technically good singer. Needless to say he sounds amazing doing screaming and singing nowadays though. 2. The Wembley show. Like I've said before, I would show it to someone if they asked me who this band is. Definitely worth watching as they perform songs they have never -or barely- performed again after it, so this will be the only time you'll hear them live. It came after the release of Sempiternal so bear in mind this is Oli's beginning stages of singing. It's an epic show overall. 3. I appreciate how honest you are throughout this whole journey of their albums. It's very interesting to hear opinions from someone just starting to discover this band. Very positive and thought provoking reactions. I'm sorry for the long comment haha

I kind of agree, but the lyrics wouldn’t hit as hard if it wasn’t a deathcore song, where you can really feel the anger and sadness in the lyrics, in an almost animalistic nature. I think since they started as a deathcore song they couldn’t be so direct with their current genre, but deathcore is a perfect shuttle for the feeling of the songs, and each song does almost perfectly establish the meaning and feel of the lyrics
